interesting turn, RPC in Muscovy and local "commies" are best friends , meanwhile PRC abroad wants to remove him. which wing of state - institution PRC will Putin support in this case? as we all know PRC is one of the main Putin´s propaganda tools (specially for older people)

    "
The Russian Orthodox Church abroad (ROCA) called to remove the body of a revolutionary and one of the organizers of the October revolution of 1917 Vladimir Lenin from red square, this is stated in the statement of the Synod of bishops on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the events connected with the revolution in Russia.

The Russians need to understand your history and to understand the reasons why “Russia fell hard trials”, according to the priests of ROCOR.

“One of the symbols of reconciliation of the Russian people with God could serve as the release the red square from the remains of the chief persecutor and tormentor of the XX century and the destruction put to him the monuments,” – said in a statement.

Moreover, in the same way have to do with the name of cities, regions, streets which to this day deprived of their historical names, I believe in the Russian Church abroad.

The statement also says that the persecution of Russia, which is supposedly similar to the current one from “Western civilization” existed before."http://world.24-my.info/the-russian-orthodox-church-abroad-urged-to-remove-lenin-from-red-square/

The irony here is that Lenin mostly killed Russians, and millions of Russians.

I am not Russian Orthodox, so I do not know. But Lenin is still revered in Russia.

So what if Moscow didn't exist in 988? Vladimir the Great is still an extremely important figure in Russian history, as well as Ukrainian and Belarusian. That is not "propaganda", that is history.

how he could be ? if "Russia" came on the maps only in second half of 18c, but mostly in 19c. and 10c. no one literally lived in Moksha´s swamps . or you mean in romantic - nationalist propaganda version of Muscovite history? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mokshas

This is a bad idea to remove Lenin from Red Square, when in Germany people start to like Stalin. This is what I bought today in the shop in Berlin :

What's even more ironic is that Lenin is the real father of Ukraine, and yet Bandera is glorified for killing off the Poles and Jews, while the statues of Lenin who created Ukraine are being toppled.

As a devout Orthodox I know that Lenin was demon possessed, as was Hitler and loads of others throughout the centuries. But he is part of Russian history and Russia does allow people the freedom to worship as they please ...and also not to worship at all. So it is a problem, I mean having people idolize a demon is really unthinkable... but then again we have live ones in our own political realm, which is not a good sign.

I think the best thing would be to have the Russian people take a vote on it.

Ilyich wanted to be icon of October Revolution - he got it. And so he'll stay.

After all, how may other folks from almost a hundred years ago we have mummified and on display? =ω=

...besides, technically he is under ground, just in open grave with mausoleus on top, with people going down and back up daily.

Litwin, you do know that Putin always had a reputation in Russia as being incorruptible, and the more the West demonizes him to appease the criminals who were kicked out by him, the more the Russian people despise the West. What I can't understand is why you keep referring to Russia as a kleptocracy, when it's a known fact that billions were stolen from the IMF loans to Ukraine by Kolomoisky, Yatsenuk, Poroshenko and other members of the Ukrainian mafias... and yet you are not calling it a kleptocracy? Why?

I don't follow Russian politics so I don't know who he is, but let's face it, the revolution is part of Russian history. It's part of their make up as a people, and as a country.

I know the Russian Church doesn't agree with that. They believe the Russian people suffered seventy years because of their sins since their faith was mostly an outward show, and not an inward spiritual enlightenment.... To be honest, I don't know how one can stand in church for five hours during liturgy without it affecting them in some way. But human nature being what it is...

I don't know what an Ilyanist is? All I know is that Vladimir Putin is an Eurasian. Here's an explanation of Eurasianism by Alexander Dugan.

"We are no less different from Europe than Iranians or Indians. Sure, we share common roots with Greco-Roman civilization, but this civilization underwent a schism that began in the 6th century when the Western Empire fell away from Byzantium and then disappeared under attack by Germanic tribes. Already back then, two identities formed: a Catholic identity in the West, and an Orthodox identity in the East.

The two gradually drifted away from one another further and further until, in 1054, the Orthodox and Catholic worlds parted ways once and for all. We, Russians, adopted Christianity from Byzantium and have kept none other than this Eastern Christian tradition to this day."
If you think that this is not important, then you haven't noticed that all the countries that were under the Pope in Eastern Europe are anti Russian, and all the Countries in Eastern Europe that follow the Orthodox traditions are pro Russia. The globalists in the meantime have instilled their own liberal ideals into Western Europe so that Christianity has ceased to exist, and know that the only thing fighting them for their total world control is Russia and the Orthodox Church ...so they're trying to destroy it in whichever way they can.

This is why they supported the KLA terrorists in Kosovo and went against the Orthodox Serbs under the pretext of genocide, and this is why there was no outcry in the medias about the genocides against the Orthodox Christians in Syria. ..and by the very terrorists that we support. This is also why the globalists support the Nazis in Byzantine Catholic Galatia, to the extent that it doesn't matter how many Russians they'll kill, and why Soros' NGOs are so gung ho in having regime changes in Orthodox countries like Montenegro and Macedonia.

I am Jewish. When I left USSR, I also thought USSR was an Evil Empire. But now I see that USA is a much much worse violator of Human Rights. That makes me appreciate Russia.

Like all Old Testament kings, V. Lenin had both sins and virtues. His sin was persecution of all religions. His virtue was giving money to poor people.

Well I guess we'll have to start tearing down our statues of Christopher Columbus, I mean after all, he never stepped in North America.

You realize of course Timothy Snyder is a complete idiot. ..and to think that Yale started as a School of Divinity. Doesn't he know that all of Russian culture and identity is based on Saint Vladimir and his baptism into the Orthodox Church. This also includes Eastern and Southern Ukraine. It does not include Galacia and the Western parts because when they fell under the Pope their culture changed. How about a bit of history:

In 1308 the future Saint Peter of Moscow was consecrated by the Patriarch of Constantinople as Metropolitan of all of Russia. When he arrived in Kiev the whole area was in turmoil because of the Mongol invasion, so he moved his see from the depopulated Kiev to Vladimir. About two decades later he moved to Moscow at the request of Great prince Ivan Kalita... and it has remained there to this day. It was this move that gave Moscow pre-eminence over the Russian world.

there is no Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Press, Freedom of Association, in Russia.

they literally kill politicians and press who are too critical of the President.

    gay pride marches are illegal.
