Undeniably, "transgender-ism" has become the most chic of political haute coutures in contemporary hayday of identity politics. This will of course - ecentually - change and a new group will be put on the pedestal, but as it stands today this group is the trans-community, so let us focus on that for now.

In Sweden the number of children and youths(!) ages six to eighteen(!!!) increases with 100% for each year that passes [1]. Surely this trend can be nothing more than hip-parents who brainwash their children so that they can appear cool at the next dinner-party; "Luke is actually Lucy, my son is a daughter." And all of the hip friends applaud her for being the hippest of them all. This is bsolutely disgusting and very worrying if you ask me.

    To discuss:
    - Do you agree that transgender-ism has become a fashion-trend?
    - What do you think is behind the trend of children and teenagers who wish to have a sex change increases so dramatically every year?
    - Do you think it is right that pre-pubescent children and pubertal teens have the right to change their sex?
    - Is this even, in your opinion, worrying at all?

No need to be arrogant, sir. This is a comment that does not all stick to the topic and also a comment that does not make any sense at all.

Actually my comment contains no arrogance, I'm not even sure how you could decide it does. Instead it points out that when anything important in life becomes legal or acceptable it also becomes more popular. The only way I see you could not understand this from the commentary would be purposefully ignoring it or...something even worse.

    To discuss:
    - Do you agree that transgender-ism has become a fashion-trend? NO
    - What do you think is behind the trend of children and teenagers who wish to have a sex change increases so dramatically every year? Transgender Children
    - Do you think it is right that pre-pubescent children and pubertal teens have the right to change their sex? YES
    - Is this even, in your opinion, worrying at all? NO

Adolescents and teens are HIGHLY vulnerable to peer pressure, to a need to be unique and noticeable, and towards what is trendy. It should be illegal to performance and sex change surgery or sex-change hormone therapy for anyone under age 18. Of the later, if the youth TRULY is transgender then no hormone therapy is necessary. If it is, then the youth isn't transgender anyway.

Some Muslim migrant rapists might be in for surprises with Swedish transgenders.

It seemed like there was a smug undertone and if thete wasn't, I apologise. These kind of things are difficult to pick up when conversation is text based.

Nevertheless, I do not really buy into your argument. What you are pointing out is a valid correlation, but calling it a causality is to exagerrate. Sex change has been legal for a long time and gender dismorphia is an actual thing that has been around since forever. But, to me, there clearly is something very skewed when sexually undeveloped children are said to "live in the wrong body".

That can possibly not be a real thing.

So, if one wants a son, but has a daughter, should they be allowed to fix it right after birth?

No and you’ve provided literally zero evidence to suggest it has.

I’m not convinced it has. What the article discusses is the number formally identified and seeking help at dedicated centres. There’s nothing to suggest none of these people existed before the dedicated centres were established and became better known.

I think they have the right to have their conditions recognised and be helped to find the best solution to it for them.

Not worrying as such. It’s a difficult situation and it’s unfortunate the children, parents and adults involved have to go through it but like so many things in life it is reality and I see no reason to do anything other than seek to make it as easy as possible for everyone involved.

Obviously transgender children are a "Real Thing" or you would not have started this conversation. It does not matter what the parent "Wants" as the issue involves another persons freedom of choice. I suppose the argument can be made that any changes must be made by an adult but, the issue here is one of a life choice and the rights of children to their own bodies.

Its recognized socially, legally, and morally that a 6 year old does not understand anything well enough to make decisions, and that a 6 year old is still forming. Anyone who has been around 6 year olds knows this is true.

There is no way 6 year olds are capable of determining they are "transgender". Not even parents can determine their 6 year old is "transgender".

And before the lunatics bring up the very rare cases of actual genetic issues (such as Androgen Insensitivity Disorder), this is about men who just think they are women (and vice versa).

This entire transgender issue is a scam, its people with mental issues trying to impose their fantasy on the world, and its about warped people who sacrifice their children on the alter of PC.

But they are not having their conditions recognised (mental illness). They are having the SYMPTOMS of their condition pandered to. By adults who claim to love and care for them.

Absurd - with respect. No one allows 6 year olds 'rights to their own body'. If we did, they'd eat icecream for breakfast, go to bed at 2am, and play next to the motorway. This is ADULT perversion, enacted upon innocent children, for ####### hipster brownie points.

Yes but it is much easier apparently if you have the dysfunction everybody else is seemingly having than to have something obscure like Capgras Syndrome.

It is bizarre that six year olds are lining up to have a sex change. Absolutely disgusting and highly atrocious and if you people can't see it, I do not know what the heck is wrong with you!

Not even teenagers are mature enough, they are hormonal wrecks!

Yah, but going transgender means you depend for the rest of your life on highly advanced, affordable medicine - hormone treatments, monitoring, keeping the plumbing working, & on & on. It's like a cardiac pacemaker, or going on insulin for diabetes - you're on meds forever. There are real costs & medical implications involved too - is it a best use of the surgical teams, ORs, meds, to intervene surgically in a sexual self-image case?

Children are too young to understand the commitment they're making - & TMK, there's no turning back. @ the very least, we - the US, the West - should probably implement a minimum age of consent. Anyone going through this process needs a lot of psychological counseling & support, as well as expensive & scarce medical attention for @ least a few years - tailing off (if everything went well) somewhat over time, but the pharmacological support will always be necessary, as far as I know.

An aging population (in the West, less so in the US for now) means there is/will be - a lot of pressure on how the medical resources are allocated. & the people who voted Trump in are not receptive to the notion of the right to free expensive transgender surgery - which is still right @ the edges of what medical science can do. It will be a very uphill battle, & will take generations.

Unless we make massive medical breakthroughs in implantable organs, for instance.

This stuff shouldn't even been considered (hormones/surgeries) until at least 16, preferably 18.

Yah, & if it's Sweden or one of the other European countries with socialized medicine, there is already political contention for scarce medical resources - drugs, surgical teams, OR time. If the amount being paid in now is dropping steadily - part of the demographic shift in European countries - there is less & less money to pay for increasingly complicated & long-term care.

The other complication - if lots of Islamic refugees or workers are coming in, they are not going to be pleased to pay for what the rank & file would consider a gender abomination. & long term, the guest workers will settle in, get unionized, get politicized. As working people, they're not going to want to pay for what they likely consider to be profligate, Western expenditures of very scarce goods, for - to their mind - no very good reason.
