The purpose of this thread is to reveal and discuss items of :flagcanada: current events, history and culture should they have any Who wrote that? that would be lost if brought up on independent threads per minutia topic.
Is It True, (the first one) has been closed for lack of definition. You may mourn it here. http://www.politicalforum.com/canada/437971-true.html

Hopefully, this introduction will prove sufficient for a thread definition and we may move on to stuff, Canadian.

    First up!
Canada has the fastest growing population of any of the G7.
Wow! That's compared to mostly decaying Europe and Japan.
Count them. Un, deux, trois, to yourself please U.K., France, Germany, Italy, Japan, :flagus: & :flagcanada:

    http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2017/02/08/canada-census-growth_n_14638052.html

    Canada 2016 Census Data: Canada
Is The Fastest Growing Country In G7

Canada is once again the fastest growing country in the G7, Statistics Canada says in the first of what will be seven tranches of 2016 census data to be released over the course of the year.

Is that a product of immigration or home grown population?
How will they heat all those people?
Should we be concerned that "so did Japan & Hitler" before they invaded their neighbors.
Japan and Germany had a booming population while their neighbors did not. :hmm:
And so many on this board  Hitler analogies. Eh.

Hope for thread discussion, and this thread's survival to discuss all things La Canada not worth their own thread.
Please initiate new stuff too. Don't wait on Moi.

    Canadian man who beheaded bus
    passenger granted total freedom

A Canadian man who was found not criminally responsible for beheading and cannibalizing a fellow passenger on a Greyhound bus has been granted his freedom. Manitoba’s Criminal Code Review Board announced Friday it has given Will Baker, formerly known as Vince Li, an absolute discharge, meaning he is longer subject to monitoring. . . .

Moi621..... I am still in a state of near shock.......
it is only in the past few months that I realized that
it is indeed the fault of us evil and overly polite Canadians that President Donald Trump
was reduced to a state of bankruptcy back in 1991?!

No kidding..... it is largely due to an error by Prime Minister Pierre E. Trudeau
in 1974 that set the stage for banks to greatly increase their rates........ leading
to Mr. Donald Trump financing the Taj Majal through.......
(I guess it is time for me to do one of my quotations to prove that this theory
is not really mine at all):

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Trump
Moi621..... i believe that it is apparent that an error by P. M. Pierre Trudeau set the stage for
the banks to be able to market "junk bonds" at such a high rate of interest.

At least this is the shocking conclusion that I have came to after reading an obviously brilliant
article on the horribly flawed Canadian central banking system by three economists?!

    http://www.michaeljournal.org/artic...ce-our-country-debt-free-say-three-economists
The Bank of Canada Must Finance our Country, Debt-Free Say Three Economists

    ...........
    .....
    ....
    And perhaps far more importantly......
if Canada's Prime Minister Pierre E. Trudeau had not have been OVERLY POLITE
and agreeable with the idiots who gave him such terrible advice back in 1974....
the stage would NOT HAVE BEEN set up for the terrible evil bankers to humiliate
real estate mogul Mr. Donald Trump back in 1991.

    Does our depravity....
and excessive politeness know no boundaries Moi621?!

    That is an excellent question....
"How will we heat all these people?"

Intriguing that the best answer to this question has been put forward by a Canadian politician
who has been spending lots of time south of the border speaking with much wiser and more
practical people than he would tend to find up here in Canada?!

    http://www.politicalforum.com/econo...-how-make-canada-more-energy-independent.html
Kevin O'Leary on how to make Canada more energy independent"

    ......
and perhaps even more importantly how can we heat all these new Canadians
in such a way that does not put more Canadian and American dollars in the hands
of evil people in other nations who may have even worse plans toward America than
our at least rather polite Canadian take over of the USA entertainment industry?!

Moi621.... it is only fair to mention that Prime Minister Pierre E. Trudeau probably
had quite good intentions for his unwise act back in 1974 that had such
negative consequences for President Donald Trump and his family.

I do think that P. M. Pierre Trudeau's error was good for the environment.....
and did help to keep the province of Quebec within Confederation!

    Ah Ha !

The :flagcanada: authors "confederation" while Ottawa driven politik has driven the Provinces beyond even

Federation into a "The Union of Ottawa". :flagcanada: "Wall St.".

Moi favors a return to autonomy to those provinces that were once, autonomous and a
True Confederation of Provinces where common interests might dictate. Like British Columbia and Alberta should those provinces so desire. And if Yukon wishes to trade with Alaska, :hippie: :peace:

Step by step. Like the proverbial frog in a pan or water brought slowly to boiling
The Peoples of :flagcanada: barely notice their loss of self determination and freedoms with ever increasing Canadian Stateism fostered by Anglo, Protestant, Ottawa bankers ever so slowly over time.

The once autonomous provinces should have fishing and mineral rights to their domain without an Ottawa payoff for Quebec and Ottawa. Likewise, immigration.
What part do I have incorrect?

You remember that old saying that a small number of people can
ruin a good thing for the majority of people?

Well, the province of Quebec has been a great deal more freedom than
    the other provinces.......
but they haven't exactly used that freedom to accomplish good and beneficial
things for the majority of the residents of Quebec, (especially young people whose
first language is French but they know that they know that they have to learn good
English or they will be unable to make it in the worlds of international business, scientific
research......... or even their ability to do high school level research on Wikipedia that has so many more
articles in English than in any other language)!

http://www.politicalforum.com/canad...s-quebec-students-not-free-learn-english.html Thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands of Quebec students NOT free to learn English.

La Canada is it true they practice open borders.
Looking forward to the day asylum seekers become :flagus: problems & illegals again.
    Witness: https://www.yahoo.com/news/nine-people-flee-u-border-patrol-seek-asylum-230218350.html

Nine people flee U.S. border patrol
    to seek asylum in Canada

CHAMPLAIN, N.Y. (Reuters) - Nine asylum-seekers, including four children, barely made it across the Canadian border on Friday as a U.S. border patrol officer tried to stop them and a Reuters photographer captured the scene.

As a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol officer seized their passports and questioned a man in the front passenger seat of a taxi that had pulled up to the border in Champlain, New York, four adults and four young children fled the cab and ran to Royal Canadian Mounted Police on the other side.

One by one they scrambled across the snowy gully separating the two countries. RCMP officers watching from the other side helped them up, lifting the younger children and asking a woman, who leaned on her fellow passenger as she walked, if she needed medical care.

The children looked back from where they had come as the U.S. officer held the first man, saying his papers needed to be verified.

The man turned to a pile of belongings and heaved pieces of luggage two at a time into the gully -- enormous wheeled suitcases, plastic shopping bags, a black backpack.

He said they were all from Sudan and had been living and working in Delaware for two years.

The RCMP declined on Friday to confirm the nationalities of the people. A Reuters photo showed that at least one of their passports was Sudanese.

The man then appeared to grab their passports from the U.S. officer before making a run for the border. The officer yelled and gave chase but stopped at the border marker. Canadian police took hold of the man's arm as he crossed.

The border patrol officer told his counterpart that the man was in the United States illegally and that he would have detained him.

Officers on both sides momentarily eyed the luggage strewn in the snow before the U.S. officer took it, and a walker left on the road, to the border line.

The RCMP carried the articles to their vehicles, and the people piled in to be driven to a nearby border office to be interviewed by police and to make a refugee claim.

People seeking refugee status have been pouring over the Canada-U.S. border as the United States looks to tighten its policies on refugees and illegal immigrants.

So persons pursued by :flagus: law enforcement find sanctuary in :flagcanada: until they can sneak back into :flagus: and become :flagus: problem again.
    Tell me it ain't so.

Is It True :flagcanada: may build our border wall.

    http://www.seattletimes.com/nation-world/canada-minister-addresses-influx-of-asylum-seekers-from-us/

    Canada minister addresses influx
    of asylum-seekers from US

EMERSON, Manitoba (AP) — Canada is enforcing border laws and is willing to put more resources in place to deal with the influx of asylum-seekers from the United States, federal Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale said Saturday.

Goodale visited Emerson, Manitoba, a small border town that has seen some 200 illicit crossings so far this year.

“We all need to work together. We have to have good communication with one another. This is a set of issues that span national, provincial and local responsibilities,” Goodale told reporters at a conference Saturday.

Goodale announced US$22,000 (CA$30,000) to cover extra costs borne by Emerson-Franklin’s volunteer fire department and other agencies in the community, saying more resources will become available.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police View attachment 47367 and the Canada Border Services Agency have shifted some resources in southern Manitoba to the Emerson area. The border services agency recently set up a trailer to help process the border-crossers.

The number of illicit border-crossings has jumped in recent months, following the U.S. government’s plans to limit immigration and step up deportations. The Manitoba government has said the influx has created more demand for housing and other support services.

Migrants have been crossing through fields and ditches because, under the Canada-United States Safe Third Country Agreement, they are turned back at official border crossings if they have already made refugee claims in the U.S.

If they get onto Canadian soil before being apprehended, they are allowed to stay in Canada and go through the normal refugee-claim process.

Conservative immigration critic Michelle Rempel has called on the government to ensure migrants who sneak across the border are charged with crossing illegally, but Goodale said they cannot be charged if they make a refugee claim, at least until the claim is dealt with.

“Charges in relation to the crossing of the border cannot be laid until after the case of the particular individual under immigration rules has been finally disposed of,” Goodale said.

He also said the government is examining requests for more aid from refugee support agencies, but did not provide specifics.

CBS had a story on the influx of illegals from America into :flagcanada:
Some take a taxi to withing a few feet of the border and make the run for it.
Apprehended by the authorities, they are taken in for asylum consideration.

With respect for the above suggestion if not critique.

Sounds a bit like Cats in Space of Laser Cat
    but it's true.
Pity the folks of the small village in Nova Scotia chosen for the honor

Small Nova Scotia fishing community picked
    as launch site for rockets

Maritime Launch Service Ltd. says it has committed to establishing a launch complex near Canso and Hazel Hill on Nova Scotia’s eastern coast as launch site for satellite-carrying rockets.

CANSO, N.S.—It's a 400-year-old Nova Scotia fishing village struggling to stay afloat — times have been so tough the town was dissolved five years ago.

Now, tiny Canso is being touted as the future home of Canada’s only commercial spaceport.

Maritime Launch Services Ltd. announced Tuesday that it has committed to establishing a launch complex near Canso.

The Halifax-based company, which is a joint venture of three U.S.-based firms, said it chose Canso after an assessment of 14 potential locations across North America. . . .

Once completed, the site would be used to launch the Ukrainian_Canadian_Congress_Logo.jpg Ukrainian-built Cyclone 4M rocket into space. The company said the Ukrainian provider of the rocket, Yuzhnoye and Yuzhmash, has been in operation for 62 years and has built and launched more than 400 spacecraft.

Notice in the full article, the quoted locals sound like "developers". Not old time folks.
I'd like to here from some 6th generation plus property owner.
Nor any member to the Business oriented Chamber of Commerce.

Notice how Ottawa will allow this 400 year old village to be absorbed by Spaceport development and newbies. I would not be surprised if in the next decade or two old time property owners are taxed out of their property because of the effect of the Spaceport and land values. Especially for suburban sprawl.

And how will this effect our Canadian friend, Dennis Tate? Eh.

What infrastructure is there in a boat launching service which could be used for launching rockets? I'll watch this development with interest!

They will need the ability to support a much larger population.
    Electricity.
    Sanitation.
    Housing.
    Roads.
    Grocery stores.
Other stores. Even Eureka, California has a Costco. And they only have road access.

With the above, the price of property will go up.
People will be taxed off their property or selling off parcels to developers' profits.
And consider people who live there chose to do so.
And the pollution space enterprise involves. Chemicals, fumes and the like.
These Ukrainian Rockets do not come in preassembled and fueled too.
    What of the pristine environment?
See what they did to Alberta? Beautiful-Alberta.JPG

There is no end to the disregard of Ottawa for the Canadian people.

Are you sure it's not an early April Fools Day prank?
I read an article in spaceq.ca . MLS aren't looking for Canadian government investment. They want to lease some Crown land as there isn't a lot of population in the area. They did want to build it in US but don't think the Trump will let a Ukrainian company do it.
Isn't that a weird set up?

    This is an interesting article.
Maritime Launch Services to Decide on Nova Scotia Spaceport in March

It seems every couple of years another group comes along claiming they’ll setup a spaceport in Canada with Nova Scotia being the preferred location. The latest is Maritime Launch Services (MLS), a newly registered company in Nova Scotia with roots in the U.S and the Ukraine. What sets it apart from recent previous efforts is the experienced principals involved.

    The Principals
The principals in the company are John Isella, CEO; Stephen Matier, President, Chief Operating Officer and V.P. of Spaceport Development; Joe Hasay, CEO of United Paradyne; and Dave Walsh, Chief Technical Officer.

SpaceQ spoke with John Isella while he was in Canada on the companies “third major trip” here.

Isella has over 35 years experience in the industry as an engineer and in business development and management, including living and working in the Ukraine and working on projects like Iridium Next and Orbital ATK’s Antares. He still does business development with the Yuzhnoye Design Office, a key supplier to the new venture.

'The only thing it has to do with Canada is geography and a favourable business climate and geopolitically stable location. We don’t plan on a single payload from Canada, it’s really not about Canada from a business case perspective, it’s the international demand for a medium class polar launcher.'John Isella, MLS
Stephen Matier is a former engineering manager at NASA’s White Sands Test Facility and has been providing engineering consultant services since 2007. His experience includes “commercial spaceport development, rocket propulsion system and facility operation” according to his LinkedIn profile.

Joe Hasay is CEO of United Paradyne. If you’ve never heard of United Paradyne it’s ok, because unless you own a rocket that needs unconventional fuels, that being rocket fuels and cryogenics, you haven’t needed their services. United Paradyne is based just outside of Vandenberg Air Force Base in Santa Maria, California and they have another facility at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center.

Hasay’s company is providing the primary funding for MLS at this point.

Dave Walsh has 22 years experience at United Paradyne as Vice President and Chief Technical Officer. He’s their rocket fuel go to guy.

    Location, Location, Location
Isella and company are on a whirlwind tour of Canada having already had about 26 meetings with local government representatives in Nova Scotia, federal government officials in Ottawa and even holding a town hall meeting in Canso-Hazel Hill, which is the location they currently favour.

Canada is not the market they’re after. A good thing too, as the government doesn’t build many satellites so no commercial entity could survive off of them, and the few commercial companies who need an occasional launch, book through foreign suppliers.

This is all about location and what Nova Scotia brings to the table.

Nova Scotia is perfectly suited to launch rockets as it has thousands of kilometres of ocean to the east and MLS won’t have to launch over much land as this can pose a safety risk to communities. If anything goes wrong, the rocket would fall into the ocean. And even if anything doesn’t go wrong, the rockets first stage will come back down to earth after it has completed its engine burn, and with this location, it will fall into the ocean.

Aside from the safety factor, Nova Scotia also offers a great location to launch payloads to Sun-synchronous and Low Earth Orbit (LEO).

The Canso-Hazel Hill site they are interested in is on crown land. This means they would have to lease the site from the government. According to Isella, they’ve had positive discussions with the government on this issue and would apply for a 20 year land lease.

Originally a location in the continental U.S was considered, but with a protectionist new President in power, it seemed unlikely that a Ukrainian rocket would get a favorable reception, even if the company owners are American.

A Sun-synchronous orbit crosses over the equator at approximately the same local time each day (and night). This orbit allows consistent scientific observations with the angle between the Sun and the Earth’s surface remaining relatively constant. These illustrations show 3 consecutive orbits of a sun-synchronous satellite with an equatorial crossing time of 1:30 pm. The satellite’s most recent orbit is indicated by the dark red line, while older orbits are lighter red. (NASA illustration by Robert Simmon.)
    The Plan
MLS is after the medium class launch market. It plans on offering launch services to Low Earth Orbit, below 600 km in altitude, that will allow a payload up to 5000 kg for US$45 million. They also plan on offering launch to Sun-synchronous orbit, a much desired service at this time for smaller satellites, with a payload up to 3350 kg for US$45 million. A payload going to Sun-synchronous orbit will need to be about 600-800 km in altitude, hence the lower mass available for the payload.

Yuzhnoye Design Office along with Yuzhmash of the Ukraine will be supplying MLS with a new variant of the Cyclone rocket, the 4M, and according to Isella “the Cyclone 4 upper stage and fairing remain unchanged and the first stage is now derived from the Zenit family of vehicles using an existing Lox-RP engine that is produced in Ukraine. So a 2 stage vehicle, Lox-RP first stage.” The Cyclone family of rockets is a proven launcher having successfully launched 221 times.

This medium class launcher might become more popular going forward. U.S. launch providers like SpaceX and United Launch Alliance have pretty much ignored this class of launcher. But with small satellites becoming popular and with companies like Planet Labs wanting to refresh whole segments of their constellation every 2-3 years and with ride-sharing becoming ever more popular, MLS could see an increasing demand for their services.

One of the comments Isella made during our conversation was that they were taking a very conservative approach to this venture. If after doing their due diligence the plan looks like it could succeed, and their investors agree, they’ll proceed, otherwise they’ll just walk away from the Nova Scotia option and look elsewhere.

    The Competition
In the medium class launch market they like to compare their offering to the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) offered by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), though Isella stresses that their price point will be more competitive when you consider the waiver process U.S. customers need to acquire when buying launch services from ISRO. Isella also mentioned that it’s a lot closer and easier for U.S. customers to travel to Nova Scotia.

Other current competitors include the Russian Angara 1.2 and Orbital ATK’s Antares.

Of course MLS will also have to compete with the emerging small satellite launchers coming online such as Rocket Labs of New Zealand and Vector Space of the U.S. While these companies can only launch a fraction of the payload mass to orbit, they might take away some customers who might want to ride-share on the MLS rocket as they can be more responsive in meeting customer needs by providing a quick launch date from the date of contract signing.

    The Cost
Isella told SpaceQ that they estimate it would cost US$110 million to get operations underway at the Canso-Hazel Hill location. While they have funding in place from the principals involved, they also have investors who are waiting for the results of this latest trip before making a commitment.

Isella said it would be 30-45 days, mid-March in other words, when they should have a decision whether to move forward with the project.

At this point they aren’t interested in the Canadian market and aren’t seeking government investment. While the business plan doesn’t include regional government Industrial and Technological Benefits or other government programs, they will consider them going forward.

What’s intriguing about MLS, is that if they do go get the green light from the government and go ahead with operations in Nova Scotia, there will be a potential benefit to the government and Canadian companies. All of sudden the government and companies won’t have to look offshore for a launch solution. The option to launch from Canadian soil might even spur further investment in the Canadian satellite market.

With no investment required by the Canadian government, the idea of MLS operating in Canada seems to be a win all around, especially when you consider there currently is no indigenous option.

I was actually rather serious about my suggestion that
Canso, Nova Scotia could be an interesting place for
the introduction of a new currency unit.... that could potentially play a significant role in assisting us
to look at money itself very differently............

....(if I remember correctly though... I kind of shot myself in the foot with post #2..... a bad habit of mine)?!

    Dear Sallyally DEAR.
It is so difficult for me to restrict my emoticons. :blowkiss:

    On Topic.
It should not matter there are few people there. It is a pristine land, once autonomous.
I mean when we kicked the natives off their south Pacific islands, it was because we had to.
    This is totally different.

Aren't there regions in Western Ukraine that may work as well?

Again consider how Ottawa relates to their people who don't live in Ottawa.
Have the people of Nova Scotia really been consulted?
Would you want a Spaceport stimulating your local economy?

Restore Provinces' Freedoms and Autonomy where it occurred.
Across an immense, unguarded, ethereal border, Canadians, cool and unsympathetic,
regard our America with envious eyes and slowly and surely draw their plans against us.

Nova Scotia should reclaim its' stolen autonomy if not declare independence.
Then they may manage their own currency and more. Their freedoms and security.
I betchya they might get some Atlantic Ocean fisheries and mineral rights in their territorial waters.
