I can understand your point of view. But would suggest two points. First, in regard to driver's licenses, each state determines it's requirement for their issuance; the Feds don't dictate them, but have provided for license Issued by any state to be recognized by any other. And that is basically what is suggested in the bill which, by the way, was originated by a Texas congressman and which is endorsed by both sides of the isle from Texas, that CCW permits issued by one state be recognized by all others.
second, once made law, it would likely stand multiple Administrations.
Personally, I would prefer a continuation of the trend of states going Constitutional carry.
When iI first came to this country, I thought John Wayne was a Texan....I was disappointed he resided in the Republic of California... bait and switch.

Oddly enough, Texas which is a Bastion of Firearms freedom has a few requirements for Concealed Carry, including a Instructional course and qualification test, that has gone uncontested buy most Texas residents.

An alternative to Federally Mandated National Reciprocity is Voluntary States reciprocity, however it would require a set of standards everyone could agree to, as far as training and qualification.

Those wanting full reciprocity would take an approved course and be issued a National Registry certification, valid in all participating States with the exception of hold out States, not wanting to participate in the program.

That is the Difference between Federally Mandated Reciprocity and Voluntary sponsored State Reciprocity, States can chose not to participate in a Voluntary sponsored program.

Having a state-level concealed carry permit will do nothing to protect you from federal intervention, should a future administration determine that no private individual may legally carry a firearm outside of the home.

We already have voluntary State Reciprocity. States that don't have it now won't join the program you propose.

I see federal involvement as a camel's nose in the tent. How long until they mandate that states meet federal standards and then those standards become more stringent until almost nobody can get a license? What will stop them from holding federal money over a state's head for the Feds to recognize the license of that state? States can ignore them, but then they would lose all reciprocity that they have arranged without federal involvement. States will have to choose between having a license that is recognized outside their state and federal money or the rights of an individual to bear arms.

Why can't an adult by alcohol, handguns, and pretty soon, tobacco, until they are 21. Are they not adults at 18? Why did states lower their speed limits on highways to 55 mph for years? The answer is that the Feds threatened to withhold highway funds if they didn't yield authority over to the Feds and give up their rights under the 10th Amendment of the Constitution.

Why has the federal government not implemented nationwide standards that must be met for acquisition of a license to operate a motor vehicle? Why are such standards left up to the discretion of the individual states?

I have a ccw for ca and nv. With those two licenses I can carry concealed in 33 states. I say we make it an even 50.

It is not. Therefore there is nothing to prevent the federal government from setting national standards for the issuance of licenses to operate motor vehicles, that the states must implement. And yet this has not occurred. Every state is allowed to set its own standards for the issuance of such licenses.

1/2 of Washington isn't eager for car control either like they are for guns.
