I think the communists lacked 32,000 tons of napalm not to mention B-52s and the racist mentality possessed by many US "leaders" of that time. It is my understanding that when North Korean forces "invaded" the south in 1950, a majority of Koreans welcomed their arrival:

    "DECEMBER 31, 2002
    A Pop Quiz on Korea

    by GARY LEUPP..."

"9. In June 1950 North Korean forces attacked the South and by September controlled all but the southeastern region around Pusan. What was the reaction of South Koreans?

"a. stiff resistance, in support of the popular U.S.-backed Syngman Rhee regime

    b. little resistance, and initially much cooperation

    "c. general apathy"

I'm sensing a clear bias from you on this.

Wiki has 5 massacres committed by the North in that war and 14 committed by the South.

    No angels there.

    I suspect you are correct.
I will turn 70 next August, and the first discussion of political economy I can remember took place when I was in grade school during the Korean War. My dad and grandfather were agreeing the war was necessary to prevent the Great Depression from returning. Since that time, I've come to the conclusion every war since 1945 fought by US forces was done so on behalf of a permanent war economy. Today, there appears to be a pair of narcissistic megalomaniacs in charge in DC and Pyongyang, if so, I would like to think I'm biased on the right side of history.

Make no mistake, NK is like it is for a reason.

But ultimately that doesn't change much. They keep killing people. The other side stopped 60 years ago.

It's also a mistake to conclude North (or South) Korea ever had to exist:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/People's_Republic_of_Korea

"The People's Republic of Korea (PRK) was a short-lived provisional government that was organized with the aim to take over control of Korea shortly after the surrender of the Empire of Japan at the end of World War II. It operated as a government from late August to early September 1945 until the United States Army Military Government in Korea was established in the southern portion of the Korean Peninsula by the United States of America. After that it operated unofficially, and in opposition to the United States Army Military Government, until it was forcibly dissolved in January 1946."

Koreans from one end of the peninsula to the other were ready to resume control of their country in September of 1945; it was the US Army that prevented that from happening below the 38th parallel.

You are right.....Korea is one country and should be reunified, instead of kept separate...they are all Korean people, and should be one...like Viet Nam the USA is trying to keep it separate..but in Viet Nam they should have learned a lesson, but did not....

I was talking about the other guy - the one posting tripe from counterpunch. He is everything you have listed there in left wing form.

Maybe I hit Mandelus on a bad day, but his reply to me was horrifically bad on facts & interpretation. It really did read like a 16 year old kid who thinks he knows stuff. I've been doing the internet thing too long to have much patience with people who make big claims but can't spend 5 minutes on google to fact check them. If you say he is better than that I'll give him another chance, but life is short & the internet is big.

There was a time that a computer took up an entire city block. Your current iphone in your pocket has more computing power than that massive machine. Technology will always move forward, and sadly, a lot of advances come from money invested on weapons that gets adapted for consumer use (microwave ovens). Those trucks will soon be small cars, which will soon be shoulder packs, and then handhelds. Give it time.

Agreed, there are weak posters who keep quoting counterpunch as if it is the BBC; it is a POS fake news garbage website but these people keep linking to it as if anyone could give a cr-p about what comes from there.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/People's_Republic_of_Korea#Establishment

"The Imperial Japanese colonial authorities requested that a government be established to ensure the safety of their persons and property after the occupation ended. Under the leadership of Lyuh Woon-Hyung, the newly formed Committee for the Preparation of Korean Independence (CPKI) organized people's committees throughout the country to coordinate the transition to independence. On August 28, 1945 the CPKI announced that it would function as the temporary national government of Korea.[2]:p.64 On September 12, CPKI activists met in Seoul and established the PRK."

Lyuh was a visionary who saw a united Korea as indispensable to world peace.
72 years later, a United Korea could be even more important to humanity.

The F-117A with number 806 was detected by 3 x P-12 radar system of USSR origin and which was developed in 1956 (!!!), but this version here was from 1970's. A Serbian Mig-21 (yes an old Mig-21!!!) was then directed and uncovered by all NATO systems behind the F-117 and shot an AA-8 missile on the F-117 which totally surprised the F-117 pilot who made an immediate evasive maneuver but was then detected by a missile battery. Until now it is not clear if it was a SA-6 Gainful or SA-3 Goa which hit and shot down the F-117, because both shot on it. No matter which one it was, both were developed in the 1960's!

So what was here luck again?

    North Korean Air Defense...

    270 x SA-2
    200 x SA-3
    150 x SA-5
    ? x SA-4
    100 x SA-6
    50+ x SA-13
Estimated several tens of thousands x SA-7 (portable, like old US Red Eye)
Estimated several tens of thousands x SA-18 (portable, like current Stinger)

Yet you still didn't show where the US was lobbying a missile at another country, while saying they were target practicing to hit N Korea.

All this old History you keep posting up, is suppose to mean what?

Were you looking for some moral equivalency?

Technically if the carrier USS Carl Vinson continues heading west, transits the Zeus Canal, keeps heading west through the Mediterranean Sea, making its way to the new wider Panama Canal and transit the Panama Canal and continue heading west the carrier will arrive off of Korea.

    How's that for "Geography 101" ?

South Koreans are laughing at Trump's claim of sending an "armada." The truthless president strikes again.

Oh so that's what you were going for, some sort of Moral equivalency. A Play on a philosophical argument, and not politics.

When did you accept the delusion that Governments ran by man. Were really ran by Angels?

Did you not know that mankind is the most evil in all of creation? There is nothing more evil than Mankind.

So one evil kind against another evil kind. There is your moral equivalency.
