On his 100th day in office on Saturday, facing historically low popularity ratings, a succession of intractable foreign crises and multiple investigations of his links with Moscow, Donald Trump reminded the nation that 1 May was Loyalty Day.

The day is a US tradition dating back to the cold war, when it was a bolster to stop May Day becoming a rallying point for socialists and unionised workers, but for an embattled president learning politics on the job it has an added resonance.

In an interview with Fox News to mark the 100-day mark, he declared himself “disappointed” with congressional Republicans, despite his many “great relationships” with them.

He blamed the constitutional checks and balances built in to US governance. “It’s a very rough system,” he said. “It’s an archaic system … It’s really a bad thing for the country.”

Can we take any Republican seriously that has so little regard for a document so many a sworn to defend?

Can you link to the Fox News interview? I'm not saying I doubt it, but it would be useful to see the full quotes in context.

Trump was not explicitly referring to the Constitution (he did not even mention the Constitution); he was referring to Congressional rules and strategies, --not all of which could automatically be described as "Constitutional" --and the one specific example he gave was of the abandonment of the rules around filibustering.

This does not even begin to approach the story that Bush Jr. called it "Just a piece of paper."

No surprise there. As a spoiled brat, he is used to never hearing "no".

I bet it was a rude awakening as he learned about checks and balances.

Get over that. No one that has attended a military school in their youth is a "spoiled brat".

A 200+ year old document being unable to delegate the necessary powers plaguing the modern world? Color me spooked.

Congress and Constitution share the letters C-o-n-s so the poster's confusion is to be expected.

I'll be sure to try harder myself . . . when I start a thread referencing said video. But when I start a thread referencing a video and forget to link to said video, I'm sure I'll understand when someone asks me for the source of my claims, rather than expecting other people to do it for me.

I suspect Donnie had heard the term "checks and balances" but could not possibly name any of them on a test.

Trump's interviews and tweets seem to say otherwise.

Well, considering it's the right that disregards every damn thing except the idiotic Second Amendment, I'd have to disagree with you.

Let's only hope that right-wingers don't feel emboldened to return to their "equal but separate" school segregation philosophy.

In my humble opinion, Trump has just become the "neutral puppet". He goes with the flow. Actually he must if he doesn't want to end up with JFK. The two dominant blocs of the world, Eurasia and West, have been lately trying to pull him to their side. It's obvious that impeachment and treason rumors from the almighty MSM favored the West. Trump's like a ball game that Russia plays in away while the US has the home team advantage. Today the Trump's situation is more like the curve you have in your profile picture; one third pro-Kremlin, the rest is pro-DC. Balance saves the world from a catastrophic end, that's for sure.

But you're prepared to take an incompetent, narcissistic sociopath and and brazen liar seriously. Seriously?

I wasn't ranting, that was a direct quote from a news article. None of my writing or opinion until the last sentence. Which I hardly consider a rant.

I did not expect anyone to do it for me and I had I not been in the hospital I would have been more than willing to.
