I'm told I need to sign up for Medicare 3 months before my 65th birthday. I'm planning on working until I am 67. If I don't sign up until 3 months before my 67th birthday, is that OK? I'm 63 now so I have a bit of time to figure this out. Unless I die, and then it's not really an issue. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Why wouldn't you sign up???? It costs you nothing, and you still have any other insurance you may have. DO IT. (I did).
Thanks for the info. I thought that Medicare would then be my primary insurance. I already have good insurance where I work.
Be careful about signing up for Medicare if you're already covered by another plan that's better for you. First, you cannot claim coverage for a condition using more than one plan unless it's a Medicare Supplement. Second there may be a conflict between your current plan and Medicare and you may also be forced to drop your current plan in favor of Medicare because you signed up for Medicare last and because your employer pays part of the premium for your existing plan. Do a thorough research before you do anything else.
