No, I wouldn't want my son to risk his life, but that doesn't mean I don't love my pet and consider my pet a part of my family.

I've never hunted in my life. I am pro 2nd amendment because I believe in our Constitution and I think every single one of our rights is precious and should be defended against traitors who would like to strip us of just ONE of our rights as citizens of the great USA!

 I've never said anyone shouldn't love their pets, only that . . . never mind!

What, someone claims to be an animal lover then goes out and kills them just for the hell of it? Wonder why that should give them a bad rep? I must be missing something.

Yeah I know - they do it to keep the numbers under control. Well they would say that, wouldn't they?

I mean, I'm differentiating betwixt the sport hunter asshats, that shoot to waste, & get some apparent relief from their Micro-Penis ailment, & those that responsibly hunt & either personally consume their kill, or donate it to the hungry.

So, yeah, I guess it would depend which group you ask, what the answer will be.

However it's dressed up it's nothing less than hypocritical for someone to say they 'love animals' then kill them, often in some pain and trauma until they expire.

I never fall out with anyone just because they have a different opinion to mine. And I'd like to take you up on that if only you didn't live thousands of miles away. It wouldn't cost you much either - after a couple of pints I start falling over!

It's not out of the realm of possibility, that members meet up.... Even across oceans.... And throw a few back mate.

Even codgers can fair a sea voyage son.

    LOL!

Neither of us is used to the demon drink, that's why we can't handle very much of it? And seeing as I'm claustrophobic in enclosed spaces (like in a plane?), and get seasick just looking out of my windows at the English channel if it's a bit choppy, wild horses wouldn't get me on a ship, so you'll have to come here.

    Funny that yo.

My wife's tree sprouts Von (Auf?) Deutchland.

We never really had a bonefide Honeymoon, & were thinking about Europe for our 10th, (this year) but realistically, our 12th, anniversary.

    So, there's that.

My cousin is a bow hunter. He admires the animals he hunts. He sees it as a challenge. He hunts deer, but nobody is more interested in deer or admires them more than him! If it weren't for hunters, you would have an overpopulation of deer, and that is bad. They starve to death, cars hit them, etc. It is just in some men's nature to be hunters.

If it weren't for hunters, we wouldn't have an overpopulation of deer, but farmers would be poisoning them like rats to keep them from overpopulating. Deer cause too much damage to allow them to overpopulate.

Couldn't agree more. As a matter of fact, I kinda made that point as well.

I remember as a kid, on one of my first Whitetail hunts.

We were in a very overpopulated area, that had seen numbers explode over like a 10 year period.

No farmers were killing the deer, Well, at least not through poisoning...but starvation, & disease had started to make an impact.

While trekking to our stands we often found fresh dead deer, with hugely distended abdominal areas.

This wasn't due to decomposition bloat, the deer were starving, so they had been stuffing themselves on pine needles.

Horrible sight to see. Such beautiful animals.

I'm only talking about to responsible law abiding hunters. Family on my dads side lives in Anchorage and have hunted all their lives. One worked for the ADFG.
They don't go out and "kill for the hell of it" and they completely respect (love) animals/nature.

Well, there aren't a whole lot of farms around these parts, so hunters do their part to keep the population in check. I've heard (from my cousin - as he is a member of several online hunting sites), that some states actually hired some people (like police or something) to shoot and kill deer when there was an overpopulation - these particular states having very strict hunting and gun laws, so instead of loosening some restrictions for the citizens, they hired some "professionals" to assassinate the deer.

Acknowledging the point made in post 117, I accept that culls are necessary but that it's best left to the professionals rather than 'law abiding hunters' who (be honest now?) do it because they like killing - you know, aiming, pulling the trigger, and letting loose into living flesh and bone - rather than as a selfless act of public service. Whatever, all I know is that I personally couldn't do it for either reason.

No it's not a selfless act of public service...unless an animal is injured on a highway or you have to shoot to defend yourself or another persons life.
Natives outside the bigger cities live on hunted meat.
I just know how highly they regard the ethical treatment of game animals. There are stiff penalties for not salvaging all edible meat and you have to know exactly what you are allowed to shoot.
I understand why you hate it, I've felt the same way. Just saying there is another side to it.

    Because...?

Actualy I suspect a good many of them do it because they like eating. Perhaps you imagine that's more noble because you like it?

You think that's what professional hunting is?

Personality disorder met with online anonymity, I'd say, which is in line with their being narcissists, psychopaths and sadists. The social side of the net is definitely a playground for them.

People just have to develop a thick skin and learn not to let such things bother them. Experience is the best teacher, of course.

If it weren't for hunters, farmers would be poisoning them, however, most farmers I know like to hunt deer, so they won't poison them.

Why pay people to do things that people will pay to do? I hope you don't eat meat, with your views. You do know that you ordered the killing of any chicken, cow or pig you have eaten from, don't you.
