Just want to know what you think of the presidents since Carter rated from 1-10. here are mine. Carter: 3 Reagan: 5 Bush Sr: 4 Clinton: 4 Bush Jr: 2 Obama: 4 Trump: 1 As you can see I am not a big fan of any president especially Bush and Trump.
You forgot to point out that you mean 10 to be good and 1 to be bad. In certain countries "numbah 10" is bad and "numbah 1" is very good !!
There are already lots of surveys on this most notably by presidential historians. As far as where might DJ Trump fit within those surveys? -- it is still too early to tell. I have predicted from the beginning (since Trump was elected) that he would be a President similar to either Carter (inept) or Reagan (innovative and successful). His only accomplishment so far is the appointment of Gorsuch. But that is stellar. Hillary would never have accomplished such a thing.
At your high school they should have taught you in Civics to explain your terms yes. If you took math in high school they should have taught you then too.
No kidding, I rank Reagan 10. The very best of all the presidents. Hands down. I rank on that scale Bush 41 as a 4 and his son a 7. Obama a 2 and no rating right now for Trump.
There is a lot of good to be said about Reagan which is why I rank him higher than anyone else. But there were problems. First is that Iran Contra Scandal where weapons were sold to Iran to secretly free hostages. Second, almost all his tax cuts to the rich not to the struggling middle class, this opened up massive deficits and was the beginning of the large national debt we have now. He then tried to make up for this by trying to raise social security taxes but this mostly affected the middle class. Median incomes barely increased, income inequality increased dramatically and most growth went to the rich. And many close to Reagan know that he wasn't well informed and many of his policies were formed by his advisers: http://www.salon.com/2015/12/27/beh...ed_the_white_house_so_grossly_ill_informed_2/ I don't know why Bush gets a 2. He ignored the 9/11 threat after many warnings, rushed into a war in Iraq that cost us trillions (literally), and his term ended with an economic disaster he did nothing to stop. He also did nothing about the threat of global warming and increasing healthcare costs.
Reagan (1) pulled the USA out of Carter's recession (stag-flation) which is/was good. Reagan also (2) destroyed the middle class with his upper class tax cuts which is bad. He was better than Carter, Ford, and Nixon however which relatively speaking makes him a good POTUS. Kennedy also had a tax cut but nobody remembers it. It also led to prosperity in the early 1960's. Johnson was plagued by the Viet Nam War. If Johnson had been really smart he would have pulled out of Viet Nam but being born and raised Texan he did now want to be the first one to lose a war -- so he kicked that can down to Nixon and Ford instead. Generally I point out that Ike is the best President that we have had since FDR. But most people don't remember Ike. Ike did not have any major crises however he set up the Bay Of Pigs Cuban crisis which screwed Kennedy after him. You @Distraff must be fairly young because you did not list Ike, JFK, or LBJ. Nor even the fiend Nixon. Carter was a reaction to Nixon. With Carter the GOP was swept out of power completely. But even with all that power Carter could accomplish little -- same as Trump so far.
Your list seems pretty accurate. Its too bad that we have to go back so far in the past in order to give a president an 8 or higher.
A: Ike had no relevance or connection with the bay of pigs, where you got this bit of misinformation is beyond me. B: Carter's presidency was affected way more by overseas events which overshadowed his domestic agenda. C: LBJ had followed the domino/containment agenda used by every president going back to Truman.
Bush was a disaster, and Trump may turn out to be one as well. What's hilarious is your little rating for Obama. No president has had weaker economic recovery numbers than Obama. Not only did his party go down in flames under his watch, his legacy was completely rejected by the voters.
Bush had weaker economic recovery numbers. He inherited a recession not nearly as bad as Obama but couldn't get any real job growth until the end of his first term, and it ended 4 years later and become a massive recession. The president is only one part of the government and the government is only a small part of the economy and sometimes the president just inherits a bad situation and a congress thats unwilling to go along with his ideas, and that was a problem for Obama. Clinton was very lucky in that his term was conveniently between two recession so his stellar economic numbers can't be attributed to just him which is why I don't credit him for it much. Anyway a 4/10 rating for Obama isn't exactly golden so what is your big problem with it?
It's shocking to me how there are still people who still like Obama given his track record. He doubled down on bombing the middle East, he bailed out wall street, he pardoned all those criminals who crashed our economy and then when he was no longer president he did a speech for wall street and banked 400k dollars.
You @Liberty4Ransom should google before you speak/type. Everyone knows Ike approved the Bay Of Pigs invasion. You are the only one who does not. Meanwhile I will put you on iggy for your own good. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bay_of_Pigs_Invasion#Eisenhower.27s_approval
@Yandy it is still shocking to me how (that) there are still people who still ... blame BH Obama for the obstruction given him by McConnell and Boehner. This means you.
Once again you need to distinguish between GHW Bush and GW Bush when you say "Bush". They must not have covered this in your high school.
My top 5 -- 1 - Washington (as general not as President though) 2 - Lincoln (as President not as a general though) 3 - FDR 4 - Ike (even with his mistakes in Viet Nam and in Cuba) 5 - Jackson (both as a general and as a President) All the rest were inept. All the rest. All.
If our banking system had collapsed then we would have had a 1930s situation again so we had to bail them out. This was a loan by the way not a giveaway and we have gotten almost all of it back. As for pardoning those criminals, technically they didn't break the law which was part of the problem and why he signed wall street reform which Trump is now trying to dismantle. As for bombing the middle east, Libya isn't any worse off than it was. Actually its pretty common for past presidents to give speeches to wall street.
Even FDR made mistakes. His biggest mistake is sending the Pacific Fleet to Hawaii where it was within ambush distance by Japan.
BH Obama's biggest mistakes were listening to Hillary about Libya and Syria. Obama should have kept his promise and stayed out of Libya and Syria. Why he changed his mind I will never know. I am guessing he figured that Hillary would be the next POTUS and so he wanted to give her what she wanted in Libya and in Syria before she started in office. Big mistake -- both the assumption and also getting involved.
He wasn't that great of a general. But he did slow the British advance. The major victories were mostly won by other generals. FDR was a socialist and while he did a lot of good things he isn't one of my favorites. Don't forget his extending the Korean war and only getting a draw leading to the North Korea mess. Also he failed to cut those 90% taxes that FDR imposed on the rich leading that for JFK. Jackson was a great general but a brutal president in hindsight. Stealing land from westernized peaceful Indians and then death marching them to Oklahoma was just terrible. A pretty bad start for the democratic party.
