F-35 grounding at Arizona base extended indefinitely amid hypoxia probe

How many years this masterpiece of American aircraft construction can not normally fly? If I correctly remember then this plane was to be adopted for service 10 years ago and cost about 5 times less than now.

 

The F-35 project has been the essential pentagon fiasco, over budget and over delivery date. Using fuel to cool the avionics might sound like a brilliant idea, but to me seems like an invitation for disaster with fuel in the cockpit.

Watched a free air show here the other day. The F-35s were practicing stalls and drops close to the ground here most of the day. None crashed, and they flew just fine, very maneuverable and the pilots certainly trusted them. Been flying around here for years, so I don't know where the idea comes from that they 'can't fly normally'. Oh ... I know ... it's something somebody pulled out of their asses.

 

That's really impressive that they didn't crash at an airshow.

 

They were doing training and testing exercises, not a literal air show. they were working just fine.

 

It is a mediocre plane, that would be barely acceptable if it wasn't about its outrageous price and the little time it can stay airborne. A hangar diva, whose existance is solely dependant on political clout.

I am glad Canada pulled out of that deal.

 

Any US plane will fall apart if it tries to repeat this.

If one to one then the Russian aircraft must fly at a very low altitude because the Russian aircraft has a high visibility for the radar.

 

Makes me want to laugh out loud...

The F22 would make short work of this Sukhoi piece of tin.

 

Perhaps the OP works for Russia but I don't. The F-35 is a lemon.

 

Right - which is why we cancelled the program.

 

A few things with the f-35.

1. The F35 is what you get when the budget hawks try to turn 4 dedicated aircraft into 1 aircraft. It does nothing overly well, but can perform just about any mission that it will.be called on for.

2. The biggest problem with the F35 program is the constantly changing requirements from the pentagon.

3. F22 and F35 are the first 2 fifth gen fighters in the world. The changes in design are similar to the design differences between the P51 and the F4. Then you have the avionics that are several generations ahead of anything ever created.

4. The cost will go down dramatically when the issues are cleaned up and the aircraft can start rolling off the line at full speed.

5. The 400b program sounds like a lot, but remember that if we were to replace all of the aircraft the F35 will be replacing, it would cost 2-4x that amount to develop.

 

I just read a story the other day where I'm sure it was the F-22 that still had hypoxia problems, but I can't find any recent link.

Talked about that at work and we couldn't find anything either. I remember that investigators looked through every piece and part of the oxygen system and couldn't find anything. I think they narrowed it down to software.

 

No really, the Sukhoi would be dead before they even knew the F22 was there.

The story I read said even the ground crews were having problems when in the cockpit. I have to find that article.

Edit: I found an article about ground crews getting hypoxia, but it's from 2012. Maybe someone shared an old article.
