Well, if we want to go with the treid and truest method of success, then how about the USA bombs the **** out of every other country in the world and be the only surviving manufacturing country left. It worked after WWII. As we have seen, the more the government is involved in the private lives of Americans, the lower the quality of life happens. Prices go up, bubbles form, bubbles pop, and the country as a whole is stuck with bailing out "too big to fail" (according to the government) corporations.

Where did I say that? Give me my money back and I wont ask for anything else. Social security is either a Ponzi scheme or a trust fund. If its a trust fun, why isn't it voluntary? I don't like any government mandates of what I can do with my money. Social security certainly doesn't benefit me since I can get better returns for my retirement with a private IRA fund.

Your dogma is noted, as if your conspicuous inability to cite a single extant example of the paradigm you recommend. Everyone can indulge themselves in utopias in their noggins; demonstrable success in governance is another matter.

They also have been under the protection of Uncle Sam who protects their borders and their trade routes as well as their energy supplies. They also, until recently, had the advantage of being unicultural societies which greatly enhanced social cohesion.

These conditions obviously don't apply to the United States.

Furthermore, the US is now demanding that the European countries pay their "fair share" for military expenditures and the Europeans seem to have lost their minds and are admitting Middle Easterners and Africans to drain away social services from the natives who provide them.

I don't think the European social democracies will last out the next thirty years. Which is a pity. I do think Sweden and Denmark did a very good job. But it seems to be unsustainable.

The mutual defense of first-world democracies is an enhancement to their shared regulated capitalism and moral responsibility for a shared, general quality of life to be sure. None is perfect, but, despite all the airy fairy notions ideologues spout, theirs is the most successful formula

Funny thing is, we've tried the utopia of socialism and communism and big government, all with Millions of people dying of starvation and living in squalor. Find me a group of people who will voluntarily give up power and allow for a more individual type system. I agree, there are very few places that have ever been libertarian, and they wont last long cause humans are corruptible.
But here you go. A few examples.

Communism and Socialism are two different systems. Communism turns the government into a tyrant, by giving too much control, while socialism aims to provide safety net and to keep the income differences within reasonable ranges (say 1/hundreds, rather than the existing 1/millions). This removes poverty, and provides incentives for honest work and ingenuity, rather than for cunning economic manipulations. A good socialism aims to apply the least amount of control, necessary for the aims. Too much or too little controls are detrimental to the society's well being.

By the way, the law, graded income tax, entitlement and welfare programs are all socialism. No society can function without some socialism.

But it is not sustainable in the presence of unregulated immigration and the US has shouldered a disproportionate responsibility which it can no longer afford.

I have been convinced of the necessity for a greater socialistic approach to Western society, largely because of automation. You need not convince me of that.

What you do need to convince me of is the wisdom of letting uneducated foreigners into a social democracy. The excuse that we need these foreigners to sustain the social services does not seem to apply. Build machines to do the work.

The migrants bring little except crime and divisiveness and cost a great deal in terms of social services they need.

Whether it was communist or libertarian utopias, Sammy Brownback's disastrous "Red State Model" is a contemporary example of what is to be avoided.

Again, we have multiple confirmationd of the paradigm that is most successful, and there is no need for pragmatists to concoct ideologically-correct alternatives.

When you share the wealth with poor people , you end up with a nation of poor. Ergo--Cuba

Prior to the revolutions, the French and Russian rich did not share wealth with the masses either.

Just like a family, only just nations prosper. Until 80s we had enough profits coming in from foreign lands, which let enough to trickle down. Now the foreign advantages have dried up, and our corporate greed has turned inward, causing poverty and pain. This is what happened to Rome. When the territorial expansion got to saturation point due to existing technologies, the incoming wealth flow dried up, and the empire began to corrode from inside.

Which was the point. But, if everyone suffers equally, what is the incentive to ever make it better?

Socialism is a greater example of what is wrong with big government. You sent your money in to a huge government is get little back. Half or more is burned up supporting dictatorial b'crats.

So-----------------back to the socialist left wing college professors, why dont they insist their wages be cut to the national average. They would be much easier to believe is they lived what they blathered.

The goal posts is having actual physical evidence. Being wealthy doesn't prove fraud.
