I never smoked until I went to Vietnam in the late 60's. Cigarettes were basically free and everyone smoked. When I came back I continued smoking 2-3 packs of Marlboro reds per day until 06-26-98 when I quit tobacco for good. One of the best decisions that I ever made.

Just this week I was in the grocery store and noticed that a pack of Marlboro reds was over $8.00! Who would spend that much to smoke that garbage?

How many of you you use tobacco in whatever form and why?

    Cheers,
    Jason Bourne

Like you, I smoked in 'Nam - kept the flies and mosquitoes away a bit.
Smoked for 40 years - I finally had enough about 5 years ago - not had one since - tough because wife still smokes.
I finally got it into my thick skull that there was no future in smoking.

    Who created those taxes? Democrats...

I smoke mini cigars down here $1.18 for a pack of 20.

So remind us who is for the poor and who is against us?

I have a GREAT story about smoking.
Hard to remember now, but you used to be able to smoke almost anywhere.
I was in a New York City skyscraper elevator at least 40 years ago. Car was fairly packed. There was a guy smoking a cigar, and I noticed another guy staring daggers at the cigar smoker.
People kept getting off - finally there was just me, the cigar smoker, and the guy staring daggers at the cigar smoker.
My floor comes up - as the door opens the guy staring daggers says to the cigar smoker - "You know, cigars are breath fresheners for people who eat $hit!"
The doors closed - I wanted to jump back on - did they fight? Did the guy just think that up, or wait for me to leave? I never heard it before or since.
I never did like second-hand smoke - particularly cigar smoke.

Bottom line you think it's "stinky" and what is the rest of your point?

Wow what state if you don't mind me asking. In this area the going rate on Marlboros seems to be around $5.30 ish but I am told there are a couple places you can get them for less than five. Must be a tax difference between here and there.

I remember my dad used to mail a friend of his who was career navy sleeves of dip periodically when he was on cruise. His friend didn't dip a lot, but would sell the stuff for a fortune on the ship.

He is dead now, but this would have been in the 90's sometimes. IIRC, they could still use but couldn't buy it on the ship.

Thanks. I would rather have him here than not have him here, but TBH I have seen so many people's bodies wrecked by prolonged chemo/radiation that he was probably better off in the end not living.

I smoke vanilla pipe tobacco. Roll my own. A 12 oz bag costs $15-20, another $5-10 for papers, i prolly get almost a month of smoking out of it. These are rez prices, of course. In WA ur lookin at ~$10/pack of marbs, or twice as much as i spend for pipe tobacco with state taxes.

I stopped smoking "rollies " 12 years ago. I was on the nicotine gum for 3 years. I couldn't afford to smoke now. Taxes on tobacco in Australia are prohibitive. I do miss smoking though.
Australians will soon have to pay $40 for a packet of cigarettes
Stringent anti-smoking laws in the country have already seen the smoking population plummet to less than 15 per cent in six years.

I wonder how they can afford to pay when more people will live longer?

I'm a pipe smoker and will stop when they take it out of my cold dead hand.
Like most pipe smokers who cellar tobacco if they ban tobacco altogether I will have enough to last out my life.

I don't smoke, in Australia I think only about 13% of adults smoke. I feel like I'm choking when someone smokes around me while I'm dining, which is usually alfresco since indoor Restaurants are non smoking areas.

I smoked Camel, loved them but you cannot get them in the UK anymore.
Now a packet of Marlborro Red is £12 I suppose about $14.
I keep saying I am going to give up, then someone lectures me on the subject! Nothing will keep me smoking like being told not too!

I smoked cigarettes for 15 years and quit 40 years ago. Was up to 3 packs a day. I quit because of severe bronchitis. I remember waking up every day and hacking up brown sh*** for about a week or so after I quit.
