I certainly do not align with white supremacist AT ALL. Condemn their message totally. But they DO HAVE A RIGHT to march and express their view no matter how warped.

I also condemn counter protesters who go to a march to incite violence and create a riot. They do NOT have a right to disrupt a permitted march because they disagree with the message of the march.

Let the white supremacist march and then hold your own march to counter their view. An even bigger march.

"Heritage" refers to ancestry and there are non-native to the US with varying heritage in this country, some can trace back ancestors to the original founding, others may be "homesteaders" in various westward expansions, some just are the second generation or may have arrived more recently.

National Identity actually is a collection of shared cultural features of a people with a common land, in most of the world this takes millenia, certainly several centuries to develop. National Identity manifests itself in shared cultural traits, architecture, ways of dress, language, diet, music and forms of artistic expression, sports, religious practices... all of them tied to the land where a people live.

Due to the mobility of people in the US, where one generation rarely finds it's successors in the same community, due to the relatively short history of this country, and as a consequence of the transplated population arriving with a rich cultural identity from their place of origin, there is very little National Identity. What could be said to be the features of all people in the US? Would that be listening to jazz, playing basketball and American Football, drinking the Martini, wearing "cowboy" hats, eating Boston baked beans and Hot Dogs, celebrating Thanksgiving, building "skyscrapers"... These definitely are forms of uniquely American cultural expression, but they aren't as shared as bullfights, chorizo and the guitar in Spain, cricket and tea in Britain, bagpipes in Scotland or beer in Germany.

As a still emerging nation the US has yet to develop an adequate national identity, in due course they will get there, they already have some elements, but it takes millenia.

The racism if the South had to do with Southerners not Democrats or Republicans. Southerners were exclusively Democrats because they hated Lincoln the Republican and Southeners remained Democrats until Johnson pushed through the Civil Rights bill. Since Johnson was a Democrat and all Democrats except Northern Democrats voted for the bill the south as LBJ predicted became Republican and still is. You need to view history with honest eyes not partisan eyes.

I have no idea who the person is or what they believed. It does appear to me from the reports the WS marchers had a permit and were marching AS THEY ARE ALLOWED BY LAW. You may not like their message but they a right have to demonstrate and voice their views just like anyone else. It also appears from the reports I have heard, FOX, CNN, MSNBC that the anti WS groups went there with the intention to riot and break up the march and demonstration. That is wrong to incite such violence and disruption just because you do not like the message. But then the left tends to riot and destroy things even when it is their march and protest.

 

So anyways. The initial reports of the driver were apparently wrong.
