Contratiempo Celda 211 El secreto de sus ojos Awesome Spanish-speaking movies that beat most American films of the same genre.
I cant remember the name, but theres a really good russian war movie about afghanistan of similar quality/style to Full Metal Jacket. It used to be on netflix. *pretty sures its '9th Company' ('9 Rota')
I remember watching "The Beast" several years ago about a Soviet Tank crew that gets split off from their unit in Afghanistan, but it wasn't a Russian movie. I thought it Israeli, but IMDB says it's French.
Truly, reading has always been a chore for me. Dyslexia. Luckily my medical school invented synopsis medical text books. BTW I second Das Boot, but Downfall first. What was the movie about the German, or maybe Polish, Jewish kid who could pass for Aryan German and could get along with Soviets too? I would add that one. If I must read subtitles.
I have some issues with my vision that cannot be fully restored with glasses. Iy has become slightly worse lately, but if I do not sit too far away, it's no problem. Sometimes the text is just perfect size for me to sit at a normal distance. Both are awesome. Haven't seen that one.
Europa, Europa is the movie I could not remember. Jewish kid passes as Aryan, goes to Hitler Youth school, goes to war, manages to get caught by Soviets. Highly recommended if you can't watch Downfall or Das Boot again. In that class.
Again, it's good for a vampire movie. Most are terrible I can't agree that Hollywood makes the best films. They make some good films, and many bad films. Not sure American actors are the best, either. Yes, the short attention span and need for spoon feeding (of many American viewers) makes the Hollywood product very dumbed down. So many good American films never made money there because the viewing public 'couldn't understand what they were talking about'. Literally. And yes, the American habit of remaking good foreign films is an abomination. They ALWAYS utterly ruin them .. removing all the elements that actually made them good. Not a fan of either, really, but the stark difference between the original Girl With Dragon Tattoo and the remake is a very good example. The original was about a thousand times better. Finally, agree. Non-happy endings are always good. And yes, Turks make some good stuff.
Dracula, 1931, Spanish version: filmed at precisely the same time and studio as Lugosi's version, it is generally acknowledged as the superior movie
Sameblod is a nice Swedish film about how Sweden's experiments with racial biology during the 1930's affected the lives of the Sami people of the north. It is nothing extrordinary or anything, but a nice little story that is kind of like watching a documentary.
