Board's made it the 7 years you've been a member, I'm sure it will do fine.

What kills boards mainly, is trolling, haxzoring, banner/pop-up ads, poor layout, & over-moderation/under-moderation, all would need to be on a MASSIVE scale, for a board of this size, to "kill" it.

This board is a shadow of what it was when I joined it. Far less posters and of a far lower quality. It's just a culture war site. There is very little serious discussion and when there is it is quickly derailed by trolls with culture war flame bait.

I have noticed a low number of regular posters, I generally just check New Posts regularly.

To the last bit, I guess I might be numb to it from years online.

Don't get me wrong. It always happened and the people doing it sadly thought this made them great debaters. But you could always find corners to have serious discussions. Generally where I took issue with the Left (on wars for example) I would find them as troll-like as the Right when we discussed "cultural" issues. When debating with real conservatives who had a grasp of history and economic theory I tended to find these discussions stimulating. Those guys seem to have gone now but we always found common ground which made the differences much more interesting than the current conservatives "liberals are all commies and are to blame for the end of the world which is coming" drivel we get now.

I think good people with something to say on the democrat/ liberal agenda were so traumatized by the shellacking they took last November they dropped out.

All that is left are devotees to Trump hate and bait speak.with no intellectual independence of their own--just the latest rants on cable news and the internet.

You probably shouldn't take internet message boards, which are for entertainment purposes only, so seriously.

    I rarely come here anymore.

There is almost no actual political discussion between conservatives and liberals. It is almost all insults and trolling with a few political speeches thrown in, but almost zero actual engagement.

I think the forum is a good demonstration of what has happened to the US. We've become partisan to the point that we have no interest in what people who disagree with us say, except as an excuse to insult them.

It's no sneer. It's just a matter of fact. Besides that, it does not good to try to have a "serious" discussion with MOST people. They are either too set in their ways, ignorant or just don't care about your views. Unless you have a lot of money in the bank, then your views don't even matter except at the voting booth! That is where your "sneers" come into play.

True. I've started a thread here recently on a topic I thought was interesting, comparing taxation to a form of slavery, only to be told how "stupid" I am for daring to bring it up. Lol. Even after I explained that I understand taxes are necessary if you want a functional government, but that when the government starts taking ADVANTAGE of taxation, then there is a problem.

I wonder if some changes to the rules/moderation might help that. I've seen other forums much more tightly moderated. I'm just not sure how well that style would translate to politics, however.

I hope you stay active on this forum, because this post is one of the reasons I enjoy your presence here so much. You post some pretty funny stuff, and also some things that are fun to talk about.

I just feel right now like I have far more important personal problems to deal with to spend any significant amount of time debating politics--following threads, researching issues--but I like to pop in once in even if only just to lurk. on a forum this size, it gets hard staying relevant if you don't have a continuous and routine presence.

Much of the conservative "Exodus" is primarily relabeling as the concept and ideals have been driven away from the traditional conservative, we are now referred to as either a RINO of even a Liberal. We still exists and have not really changed but, the Republican party most certainly has.

Someones daily excitement shouldnt be about a political forum. Its for down time to pop in on, or to discuss current issues going on in the world.
The younger gen use snapchat, instagram and some Ive never heard of. theres lots of fun sites out there.
Save the attention seeking for people who actually KNOW you in rl. That is if you want compliments based on truth.

More loosely moderated forums are more interesting, IMO. OTOH, I can see why a forum would designate certain zones for more aggressive behavior since there is a difference between those who want to discuss an issue and those who just want to vent.

Loosely moderated ones always seem to degenerate into cliques as certain groups force others out. The same sort of social dynamics that play out in real life will play out on an unmoderated or under-moderated forum.

Which is a good reason to designate zones. Agreed in general about human dynamics.
