Enough Ziplock with frozen water in a chest freezer could preserve food and provide fresh water for a long time. Ziplocks for poop? Brilliant. Everyone in FL should have loads of them - they are cheap.

Definitely not the year to take a cruise.

Irma sure flattened islands. Hope it weakens... in fact, hope it makes a sharp right and goes out to sea. :(

Ziplocked ice would be so much easier, but If you have water a filter and fuel to boil it you will not be compelled to drink contaminated water. They had to rely on bathtub water at the Riverside Hilton after Katrina - clearly not an optimal solution.

    Hi, Miss Smartie,

I haven't stopped in in a while, so I thought I would and just say "God bless Texas", and let you know that I made a nice donation to the Red Cross. And I think the way your state has pulled together is something all Texans can be proud of.

    Cheers, Miss Smartie!

Texans are a different breed, they look at a problem and say, " Not a problem we will handle it."
You got to respect them. They will have the flooding under control. No dragging out for years and whining.

Think about how unsanitary a bathtub is.

    That should settle it.

Normally you use a folding porta potty with plastic bags for poop.

These small bags go into bigger ones which are then sealed.

Ultimately you can burn them in a pit.

After you burn poop you can then spread it for fertilizer or simply to dissipate into the soil.

Poop management is a big deal. It is even mentioned in the Old Testament.

Yes, even if you clean it before you fill it, but it would be better to drink it if that is all you have.
With a filter and fuel to boil water a bathtub full of water could extend survival safely for several days.

Bathtub for back up - Ziplock bags with frozen tap water may be the ideal emergency water source.

And, as you pointed out they are good for poop containment. Ziplock may be the ultimate cheap survival tool.

As i am sure you know, modern era militaries have paid a great deal of attention to poop management. There are manuals addressing the problem.

A weather disaster is probably the worst time to go cold turkey off of booze.

Actually I do. My unit spent a day walking around a display of every kind of field expedient waste disposal trench hole etc, and listening to experts explain how to dig them, and the importance of always concealing poop from enemies who love to dig through the stuff.

Twas ever thus. In the last episodes of Turn Washington's often obnoxious spy/hero joined the British Army for a final mission. During that time he and anyone else who irritated the sergeants were always assigned to waste management duty.
If he had not been a rebel before ... ;-)

No time is a good time to go off booze.

And going off cold turkey is even worse.

A good stash of booze with your food storage and water storage is critical to happiness and success during a disaster.

Well I have not read any such manuals lately.

But last time I did it was necessary to dig a big trench for a group of infantry.

Saving bleach bottles or water bottles and filling them with tap water and storing them is a much better long term plan. This is what I have done and I have 50 gallons stored this way.

The only danger is during winter. I keep them in the patio closet. In winter it can freeze out there.

I don't know why people go to Florida during the hurricane season of June thru September.

May is the latest reasonable date.

Fill them about 3/4 full. That will allow for expansion if they freeze. My dad always put 2 milk jugs with frozen water inside a 5 gallon water jug for his crew to drink out of while working construction. The ice melted and kept the water cold all day and at the end of the day, you could drink out of the jugs on the way home. Refill, refreeze, repeat.

Not headed to Texas yet. Still watching Irma. When we leave we are not taking the major highways we are taking the less traveled roads.
