Yeah, they were when I was in also. My CO was a West Point grad, Airborne, Ranger Tab, later he went SF.
... AND artillery is still the King Of Battle. Even though nobody has been killed by artillery or in a tank lately.
The academy grads are normally fast track to general and admiral. So they usually spend less time at each duty assignment before getting their ticket punched and moving on. As far as good or bad officers, like everyone else that is always a personal issue.
This is because there is more time spent on military theory in the academy than anywhere else -- 4 solid years. Next is ROTC/NROTC with 2 summers and also weekly meetings and classes in college. The ROTC/NROTC make the best technically trained officers like nuclear engineering etc. OCS/OCC is a fast track to commissioning. These officers usually make it to O-4 at which level they are often then retired. This is a blessing in disguise though because it then forces them to find real jobs in the civilian world or as a G-S in the bureaucracy.
The only valid criticism I have heard about the academies' education levels is that it is not very technical in science other than Military/Naval Science.
You have to understand that everyone's experiences vary.. There are dumbass scared LT's from Westpoint and dumbass scared LTs from ROTC, and super hoooah OCS grads. It's not about how you commissioned, it's how you lead when you're commissioned. Good lord
This is also due to the fact that many are prior service with time in, so by the time they hit 20 they are only O3 or O4
My cadre is urging me to go WOFT. Ironically, that was my original plan, fly rotary but when slots got tight, I was told I'd probably not get one. Decided to go back to the infantry as an officer. Now, I'm hearing everyone urge WOFT and I'm kinda excited. Anyone heard from Nightmare515? Could use his guidance on some technical questions. If anyone else has any WOFT experience or know someone who has, I could pick your brain.
Yeah, well, let us know when you're commissioned. Frankly, I'm not going to hold my breath because anyone looking for information on an internet forum can't be all that serious.
Yeah, well I can only speak for the infantry. You know how isolated we are from the rest of the Army. Further, of course, I can only speak for my time.
You don't speak for anyone in the Army but yourself. Everyone's officers vary. You seem to be a mouthpiece for Westpoint, assuming you tried to get in there at one point. Our experiences differ as my officers in the infantry have been prior service OCS guys who actually knew what they were doing. A couple ROTC guys that commissioned through SMP so they knew what's up. BTW, Slot for sectionals IL Boards been accepted. Time for review!
Back then if your test scores were good enough they were all over you to go. So when I say accepted, I mean they tried everything, including where they sent you to AIT, to get you to go. I turned it down.
We'll see. The Army "chose" you in AIT to be an officer (lol, doesn't exist), anything's possible. 95% for PT, LORs from current 0-7s, good GPA. I wish I was in some imaginary unit that takes people from AIT to OCS. Musta been nice
What year was this? There is no infantry AIT now. It's all integrated into OSUT and has been for quite some time... and you can't just "leave" to go to OCS. There's a long application process that weeds out all the unqualified soldiers. Many 11bs don't even have a college degree.
