I remember 5 years ago they had only found one gene, and it accounted for <1% (I recall?). It was a head size gene. There might even be a few of them alone. Of course schools and teachers have little impact on academic outcomes. And neither do genetics, incidentally. CULTURE (ie, parents attitude to education) is the decider of academic success. Even the worst schools still have a dux (valedictorian .. or whatever Americans call the kid with the highest mark at the end of high school). So if SOME kids can excel at the same school where many don't, we know it has little to do with the school itself. Furthermore, if you ask any specialist teacher of academically gifted children what the common factor is (to all their students), 99.9% of them will tell you it's 'parents who care about education'.

Unless they studied people with extra chromosomes and genetic anomalies I cannot really take this study at face value.
1) I don't deny it, I simply regard it as unsettled science. 2) The adoption theory is turned over because the reverse is also true. Kids from 'genetically' low IQ stock, show increased IQ (measured via academic outcomes) when adopted into families with 'genetically' higher IQ. This demonstrates how unreliable the genetics science is. 3) Culture is formed over vast periods of time, which I'm sure you're aware of. Some cultures prize education, others don't. It doesn't require genius in oneself to understand that valuing education will lead to better educational (and therefore higher IQs) outcomes. 4) African migrants (to the west) often outrank white kids academically. How does your genetics theory explain that?

Keep in mind, I'm referring to teachers who have spent many many years teaching the academically successful of ALL colours and ethnicities. To my mind, there is no better evidence for the environmental argument. The people who really should know, via sheer weight of experience and repeated demonstration, can find only a single link .. and that's parents. Not money, not parental education, not ethnicity, not language, not race, not religion, not politics. It's all down to the parents' attitude to education, and their willingness to support and enhance it.

Don't know your system/who goes where/why. 2. the high-performing Nigerians seem to be especially from one tribe (Igbo, I think) that may indeed have a genetic advantage over their sub-Saharan compatriots for some reason, as yet obscure. We are just starting to find the Genes/sequences for IQ. Perhaps 5%. 3. Some of the other Africans are from the more mixed Horn/N-E, not sub-Sahara. I'm not in the UK, and our Africans are very black, but mostly not Nigerian, though we do have some Nigerians. And in this country, public schools rank the highest academically, by quite a good margin. Our public school students therefore come from every strata of any given district. The richest families, to the poorest, and all races. Once again, if you are interested in learning more on this .. I urge you to speak to specialist teachers (qualified and practised in teaching the academically gifted). They, of all people, are in the best position to identify what is common to such students.
