Trump has called for all football players, and probably all professional team athletes to be fired if they refuse to stand for the National Anthem.

Not standing for the anthem is a form of political speech, and should be respected. But Trump clearly does not respect the right of athletes to take political stances.

He doesn't want them suspended. He wants them FIRED.

That shows very little regard for Freedom of Speech, peaceful non-violent speech, which we in the USA deeply respect.

So now we have lefties and Trump wanting to remove the first amendment. When will the paperwork get started?

Yet you appear to be okay with these "protestors" violating the free speech rights of those that wish to honor the flag and nation? Remember, free speech is not just for speech that you approve of.

That is Trump exercising HIS free speech, and giving his opinion. When we have free speech we are allowed to have our own opinions. Did he pass laws that would force the players to be fired? No. Free Speech allows us to express how we want things to go, but does not force anyone to do it. You are being just as anti free speech as Trump is by wanting him to silence HIS opinion.

It's not a mater of Trump's not respecting free speech...it's a matter of him being a clueless dunce.

please dont lie about my comments.

I do not support violence against peaceful protestors.

it is a crime to interupt and disrupt a legally permitted peaceful demonstration and I support this law.

What you have something against job opportunity? There are literally tens of thousands of young players that would give their ACL's for the opportunity to play in pro sports!

Ron, just keep in mind that the freedom of speech is an "all or nothing" concept. Let's turn this around, shall we?

Let's say Obama had just been elected president. And when the anthem was played, a white player took a knee to protest the election of a black president ... or threw a white power salute.

If you were the owner of the team, what would you do?

I'll tell ya what I would do. I would probably just pay him off whatever I had agreed to in his contract, dump him, and chalk it up to making a bad hire. The guy would be history. He could enjoy his freedom of speech as a spectator, but not as a player in my team's uniform.

What do you think about that?

i do not support people being fired simply for making a very short statement.

if they play well, do their job, follow their team and NFL code of conduct, they should keep their jobs.

sitting during the National Anthem is such a nothingburger.

If you're a Celeb you run that risk! I have never read a Pro Ballers contract but I would think it might contain language concerning this sort of thing, if not I'm sure future ones will.. No one watch's sports for this nonsense and it is starting to get out of hand, owners will have the final say and I doubt the players will rule in the end!

I guess you expressed your opinion that Ann Coulter should be allowed to speak at Berkley, right? I don't recall you advocating for her right to speak in that thread.

NFL is private organization. It's not about free speech...it's about football and ratings.
Berkley is a public University. If anything it ought to be priortizing the right for speech to be heard.

It justs sounds hypocritical when you rail against allowing speech in one thread and rail for it in another.

Yet those like you apparently approve of rioters disrupting peaceful conservative rallies with violence, refusing to all free speech of speakers who present opposing views to your own and deny the free speech of the president.

    Where exactly am I lying?

He isn't suggesting they not be allowed to "take a knee" or have free speech.

He is saying (and he's right) that they have no right to expect to be paid millions of dollars while doing so.

I agree and that was the problem, trump calling for the man to be fired... had he just made his comments without calling for him to be punished he would not of had such a backlash

As much as I disagree with Ronstar, on everything I can think of; once he learned Antifa's true nature, he's been consistent in opposing their shutting down of speech.
