Kimmel is working hard to drive off show fans. I used to enjoy his show. But then Trump got elected and Kimmel has yet to forgive America for whom they elected. He is angry. And so angry he uses his program politically. I blow his show off now for the most part. I keep hoping the jimmy Kimmel of old will return. But then I put on his show and see i wasted my time since I can see PBS to see Democrats being praised and Trump being reviled. Why go to comedy to get more and more I say.

It's so sad that some (many) young people get their news from clowns like him and Stephen Colbert. I have family members who think Colbert is a centrist and an excellent source of unbiased news.

    It makes me sick.

Do you dispute any of the mass murders Kimmel referenced and WHY in hell do you take it so lightly?

These leftists have lost their freakin minds. Twitter is overrun by them. Don’t think the silent majority isn’t paying attention. They’re making it worse for themselves.

I don't take it lightly. It's a serious situation and it will happen again.

And I'm sad that many young people get their news from demagogues.

Stephen Colbert is a late night show comedian. He doesn't report news he just repeats it and emphasizes the ridiculousness of it.

They: 1) purposely twist the news, 2) for political gain. But since they're not politicians, I guess you're right and they don't technically qualify as demagogues.

It’s proven that people seek out others with idea’s that align with theirs. People that watch slanted media has their mind made up already, they just enjoy the company that supports their ideas. This is why I hate the ambiguous left/right categories. This is used by people that have the inability to articulate why they don’t like something someone else does.

The real issue here is the influence of the powerful lobby called the NRA. They have stood in the way of any reasonable restrictions, all the while pandering the fear of guns being taken away.

How much higher does the body count have to get for politicians to grow some balls and do what the majority wants; tighter restrictions and accountability.

There’s a difference between taking something seriously and losing your ****ing mind over something. Just because you don’t do the latter doesn’t mean you are “taking it so lightly.”

are you sure its a majority?

again, you're not going to convince the average gun owner to give up his weapons by siting what crazy people and democrats are doing with them.

Sort of a chicken or the egg situation ...

What came first - the sadly comical way the Trump White House has been run or the jokes about the sadly comical way the Trump White House has operated?
Making fun of politicians, including Presidents is a time-homered American tradition. Trump FanBoys had better get used to it or it's going to be a long 2 years for them.

The NRA presents a major obstacle to any significant studies regarding behavior and violence involving guns. You have a point, that we don't really know what makes gun violence so prevalent or how to effectively prevent it, because the NRA lobbies to stop research that would reveal these answers. Presumably, that's out of fear of what those studies will actually turn up.

And before you ask for some evidence of that, please tell me an outlet you would trust. I can provide plenty, but I don't have any patience for the usual whinging about bias.

Studies about violence? I’m sorry but I’ve never understood this argument. We already know what violent people will and can do. We already know that sometimes people will go violent. Were you not aware of this fact? You need a “study” to explain it to you first?

But please, I am wholly ignorant on this, explain to me what “study” they are blocking, how it would be performed, who would perform it, what “answers” it could possibly turn up that we don’t already know, and what steps we would take as a result of the outcome of said study. I just don’t understand it.

But anyway. My question to the other guy still stands. What law or whatever has the NRA gotten in the way of that would have prevented this shooting?

How the NRA Rewrote the Second Amendment

The Founders never intended to create an unregulated individual right to a gun. Today, millions believe they did. Here’s how it happened

"A fraud on the American public." That’s how former Chief Justice Warren Burger described the idea that the Second Amendment gives an unfettered individual right to a gun. When he spoke these words to PBS in 1990, the rock-ribbed conservative appointed by Richard Nixon was expressing the longtime consensus of historians and judges across the political spectrum.

Twenty-five years later, Burger’s view seems as quaint as a powdered wig. Not only is an individual right to a firearm widely accepted, but increasingly states are also passing laws to legalize carrying weapons on streets, in parks, in bars—even in churches.

The Second Amendment consists of just one sentence: "A well regulated militia, being necessary for the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." Today, scholars debate its bizarre comma placement, trying to make sense of the various clauses, and politicians routinely declare themselves to be its "strong supporters." But in the grand sweep of American history, this sentence has never been among the most prominent constitutional provisions. In fact, for two centuries it was largely ignored.

Many are startled to learn that the U.S. Supreme Court didn’t rule that the Second Amendment guarantees an individual’s right to own a gun until 2008, when District of Columbia v. Heller struck down the capital’s law effectively banning handguns in the home. In fact, every other time the court had ruled previously, it had ruled otherwise. Why such a head-snapping turnaround? Don’t look for answers in dusty law books or the arcane reaches of theory.

The amendment grew out of the political tumult surrounding the drafting of the Constitution, which was done in secret by a group of mostly young men, many of whom had served together in the Continental Army. Having seen the chaos and mob violence that followed the Revolution, these "Federalists" feared the consequences of a weak central authority. They produced a charter that shifted power—at the time in the hands of the states—to a new national government.

“Anti-Federalists” opposed this new Constitution. The foes worried, among other things, that the new government would establish a “standing army” of professional soldiers and would disarm the 13 state militias, made up of part-time citizen-soldiers and revered as bulwarks against tyranny. These militias were the product of a world of civic duty and governmental compulsion utterly alien to us today. Every white man age 16 to 60 was enrolled. He was actually required to own—and bring—a musket or other military weapon.

On June 8, 1789, James Madison—an ardent Federalist who had won election to Congress only after agreeing to push for changes to the newly ratified Constitution—proposed 17 amendments on topics ranging from the size of congressional districts to legislative pay to the right to religious freedom. One addressed the “well regulated militia” and the right “to keep and bear arms.” We don’t really know what he meant by it. At the time, Americans expected to be able to own guns, a legacy of English common law and rights. But the overwhelming use of the phrase “bear arms” in those days referred to military activities.

There is not a single word about an individual’s right to a gun for self-defense or recreation in Madison’s notes from the Constitutional Convention.
