Stop Pretending You're A Patriot

It isn't a contest of who's better than who, or who's louder or bigger. It's not about the size of your American flag or how big your truck is. In fact, the most patriotic person I know plays the piccolo in the Cougar Marching Band and talks about America the way you would a best friend.

Patriotism is about the feeling you get when you see those fireworks. It's a quiet display of gratitude for those who have fallen to protect us in this country. It's about upholding the constitution, even when it may be uncomfortable or unpopular.

Now let's talk about the elephant in the room: the recent protests in the NFL.

In my humble opinion, the highest form of patriotism is being able to look America straight in the eyes, acknowledge all our flaws, and say, "We're not perfect. Let's fix this." That is what these players are doing. They are not being disrespectful; they are not saying they hate America.

There seems to be this sort of disconnect between what these players are doing and what Fox News and your right-wing uncle who thinks the moon landing was faked wants you to believe they're doing.

They're protesting––perhaps the most American thing that there is. The very thing that this country was founded on if I'm remembering correctly. They're peacefully, articulately protesting against police brutality. Not veterans or the flag or the anthem or Trump. And by and large, most veterans are just fine with the protests, so what does that tell you?

So to the self-proclaimed "Patriot Warriors" in the room: get down from your high horse and take off your American flag cape. Stop pretending you're a hero when I'll bet you sit in your living room when the anthem plays on Sunday. And stop pretending that patriotism is some kind of competition where only the loudest and the most extravagant can win.

Stop disrespecting the first amendment and more than half of the citizens of this country. Protesting social injustice is more important than a flag that represents the genocide of over 50 million Native Americans.

no one defends criminals actions, why do some defend bad cops actions?

and yes, if a person behaves badly for a cop, they get criticized too, act civilized around cops, you will get treated better

most of the crime in the inner cities you mention is related to the war on drugs which funds these gangs, time to end that war and defund gangs

 

I say require all cops to wear cop cams, have two out of district 3rd parties review them, have the 3rd party put cops and citizens behaving badly on the net for all to see, if people know these public encounters may make the net, most would behave better, cops and citizens alike

 

You see that's exactly it, YOU don't get to CHOSE what their Message or Method is ... it's not up to you, no one is asking your opinion and no one is asking for your approval.

Liberals want to be called patriotic, but all they do is mock America, traditional American values, and Western society in general. They never praise America or extol its virtues.

Who defends bad cops actions? Oh and just what is defined as a Bad cop? Why does the leftness act and talk like police brutality is a major problem in Law Enforcement when its not and especially when tied to races.

You actually think ending the war on drugs will get rid of gangs? Now who's being naïve.

 

Yet they wouldn't live anywhere else. I think they probably do love their country, but are trying to force a mimic of liberal socialist democracies (Sweden, etc). Unfortunately you can't force that kind of change, it has to happen organically. Only when the vast majority of the populace want the same or similar things, will it happen. That will never occur in America, because your society is too varied in personal politics/culture etc. The sort of homogeneity of politics you see in Sweden, can only arise in a homogenous society.

The highest form of patriotism is the defence of the countries founding principals, even when they protect the opinion of those you disagree with.

 

In 2012 there were 12,197,000 arrests. Of those, deadly force was used in 410 cases. Of those, single digits of those encounters were questionable.

A criminal has more chances of winning the lottery than being shot by a cop.

The group that is murdering black people in the US isn't cops.

 

Besides the early ones (i.e. the ones who did it last year), the rest are just doing a "**** you Trump." Nothing patriotic, just a statement. The problem is, in the process of saying "**** you Trump" they are pissing off a good part of the NFL watching population.

 

Ya, stop pretending. Nobody buys it. Why would anyone believe that America hating liberals suddenly love America? They blame America for everything that's wrong on Earth and want to fundamentally transform it and redistribute its wealth and punish its people

 

Next they'll tell us they love Christianity.

Heh, seems so do Trump supporters and anyone whom mocks, retaliates or tries and punish those individuals, or groups peacefully protesting something. Try an understand what is being protested, or do like Americans do an just ignore it.

These players are hijacking the National Anthem at an NFL venue. They are using their fame and uniform, provided by the NFL, to stage a protest during an NFL event to get the attention of NFL fans. They are doing this to the detriment of the NFL and eventually to themselves. If the NFL is too gutless to stop the protests, then they get what they deserve.

These people are millionaires. Why can't they spend their own money and time to protest whatever they want to protest? They have free speech. Why do they have to steal the NFL's voice?

I also have free speech and if I want to judge the motives of these players, the NFL, or whomever, I can do so as long as I'm willing to put up with the results of my speech. The same goes for everybody. The players can protest if they want. The owners or the NFL can fire them for it if they want. The fans can leave if they want. Free speech rules. God bless America.
