How many senior citizens on this forum support Trump? Better yet, how many senior citizens on this forum who consider themselves members of the middle class and who live in New York, California, Connecticut, Wisconsin, New Jersey, Illinois, Maryland, or Minnesota still support Trump? Those are the states with the highest state income taxes. If you live in any one of those states, you may want to re-examine your position.

During the election campaign, I had a few friends who supported Trump. I urged them they were voting against their own interests. That is even more true today. Allow me to explain.

Trump has promised that his tax reform proposals are designed to benefit the middle class. Because his proposals lack a great deal of specifics -- for example, what are income levels of his three tax brackets? -- we don't really know that for sure. But let us assume that is true, but will this benefit all the members of the so-called middle class as he intends?

The millions of senior citizens, middle class type, living in the aforementioned states should consider this. Most people know that in Trump's plan there will be no deduction for state income taxes. That alone is huge.

Seniors, obviously, have significantly more health issues than younger people, millions with serious health issues. Of course, that applies to all senior citizens regardless of where they live. For those on Obamacare insurance premiums are going up and up as is out-of-pocket expenses. What is less known is this:

Trump's tax reform plan eliminates the medical deduction.

His plan is not law, yet, and many of his ideas may end up on the cutting room floor once Congress gets to work on tax reform. That is not the point. The point is, what are Trump's objectives? Who does he want to benefit from his tax reform proposals? Who has he deemed will pay for the benefits accrued by others?

The answer to the last question: Middle class senior citizens living in those eight states, some of the most populous states in the country. Trump plans to reward the rural and southeastern states for their vote.

There is one other major difference between senior citizens and junior citizens. Senior citizens vote.

They don't have anything else to do.

I've said this before, the removal of the state tax deduction is pure vote buying. Punish the blue states with high state taxes, although those states already contribute more to the country than the red states, and reward the red states for their vote with a tax benefit. The beauty of the electoral college: Punish the majority because, for some reason, the rural vote counts more.

    Define "senior citizen". What age?

And no, I don't support Trump. Never have...never will.

The strange thing is, Trump does not make any attempt to expand his support by unifying all Americans. He continues to do and say things that appeals only to his base and angers the majority of Americans. His tax reform ideas are an extension of that practice.

However, this time he may have miscalculated. His base consists of seniors, too, and many live in those eight states. Those are two huge deductions they will not have.

I'm a senior citizen who voted for Trump. I am middle class. Forget the media war against Trump, he is trying to help the country. He is not a bully but will bully anyone who bullies him or our country. And he will call out the media when they show their bias. No other politician has the guts to call out the media. I would again vote for him.
As to his proposed tax plan, I haven't read it, but I understand what the man is trying to do. I don't care if my neighbor gets a tax cut and I don't. Of course I would like a tax cut. I don't care about politicians playing games with deductions because I take the standard 10% deduction and don't have to keep records or list some of my pay-outs. I don't like the fact I have to pay income tax on part of my social security disbursement. I would like to see the income tax abolished and the country go to a sales tax only. That way you bring home what you earn, everyone pays something, achievement is not penalized, and the politicians can't practice social engineering with a taxing system.

Then this issue doesn't concern you and you may well benefit from Trump's tax reform plans.

My message is addressed to the millions of senior citizens who live in those eight days and have medical issues that can run into the thousands of dollars. According to Trump objectives, those people will be hurt badly.

Thank you, sir, for your input.

You haven't read the plan, but you trust him to do the right thing? Doesn't he have you snookered. I bet you also go to the car dealership and trust the salesman to sell you the car best for you, for a fair price -- believe me, it will be the best car ever built by mankind.

I wonder if seeing Trump's tax returns might possibly reveal an additional PERSONAL agenda for his proposal???. . . . Also, since details are vague at this point, he might use his influence to fine-tune it further to his benefit.

I can't imagine how anyone could trust him to lead us in this endeavor, given his own lack of tax transparency.

    You are welcome.
I will benefit if the personal deduction is doubled, as Trump has explained, and that will help anyone who pays income tax.
I researched and have my own personal medical insurance plan with an insurance company. That is what everyone should do. I assure you as a senior I have medical issues and am on preventive Rx's. The Rx's are covered by my insurance policy. I don't wait for the government to come care for me or live my life based on who lives in the White House.

I will never read the plan nor have i ever read all 2,000 pages of the income tax code. I may get snookered but I judge people by their actions and that's why I voted Trump rather than Clinton. It's the best a voter can do. Will you read the plan?
Yes, I'm judging Trump, as you have judged me. When it comes to buying a vehicle -- well I have purchased 10 new vehicles in the past 20 years from the same salesman. I go on the internet on KBB and look up the dealer's cost and add $250 to his cost. Then I look up the trade-in value of my vehicle. I present these figures to the salesman and he will usually reply, "It's easy trading with you because you do all the paperwork."

Let's. The OP doesn't know what the tax plan is but it is bad. Simplifying the tax code is bad. Try to scare seniors.

    I think that covers it.

You don't understand. He is a Trump fan. He believes anything Trump says. He supports everything Trump does.

Even if it is against his own interests. They stick by him through thick and thin. They can even be lied to, and it makes no difference to a Trumpster.

Yes, well, Trump's plan is geared to his constituents, the working class primarily and those with relatively simple lives, people who will take the standard deduction.

His plan is not geared to the middle class businessman or those who live in those eight states, blue states I might add. It is not geared to people with health issues that cost thousands of dollars a year. The millions of seniors living in those states and with health issues will be paying for the tax savings that others will experience.

I am hoping Congress will change Trump's plan so that any tax savings will be more equitable.

I am curious about something. If you have your own private plan, didn't you have to pay a penalty to the IRS for not enrolling in Obamacare?

Ten vehicles in 20 years. That salesman loves you. I once bought a Mustang. I drove it for 15 years. After 15 years, it still was running great, but I got tired of shifting and traded it in. That was ten years ago. I bought a truck I'm still driving. My wife's Accord is going into its 11th year.

Oh, well, each to his own, I say.

At the rate they are building up, as time passes it is becoming more and more difficult to remember ALL his trust issues.
