Actually, they have found evidence of a Jewish rebel named Yeshua being crucified around the time that Jesus is said to have been killed. Yeshua (which in English would be Joshua) is Jesus' original Hebrew name. This rebel is said to have been a Rabbi with a large following and the Romans feared an uprising. There is no clear evidence that this person was in fact the basis for Jesus, but it is very possible.

Except I didn't say that. Of course non-Christians can celebrate Christmas without religion! However, this doesn't change the TRUE meaning of Christmas! It will ALWAYS REMAIN! As will its historical place in American culture and society!

Aren't we talking about what clerks say to customers, not what customers say to clerks?

That doesn't mean that it wasn't built around Christian values.

Christians played a part, so did not Christians... it's a secular nation with religious freedom for all, one of the things that makes this country great

the queen sent them here to convert or kill the natives.. .so in a way, Christianity did play a roll, your right - thank goodness we separated from that theocracy

many of the natives were happy to incorporate Christianity into their culture, but they woudl not give up their current beliefs, and like some Christians now are not happy with happy holidays as it includes all religions, many Christians back then did not like that either

is your country Australia a Christian nation? just wondering why you are taking such a strong view of how our system should be in your eyes?

edit : just looked it up, your country is only 52.1% Cristian, so your country is even less Christian then ours and Mexico is more Christian then either of ours in the 96% range, just a few more percent and God is gonna pave their roads with gold, cause as you know, God rewards Christian nations and punishes non-Christian ones... right? maybe after they get their Gold roads they will pay for the wall

And what about the person of another faith who thinks there's a war on freedom of religion because someone didn't use the magic words, "happy holidays?" Does such a person even exist?

nope, it's just respectful to not assume what someone believes

no reason to for retailers to say 'merry Christmas' except on Christmas eve and Christmas day, many do not even say 'happy holidays' anymore in fear of offending Fanatical Christians, if you say merry Christmas first, they usually just say 'you too'... again, except during the actually holiday

now they try other things like 'seasons greetings', perfectly acceptable too
    [IMG]

so how do they handle it in Australia?

The type of people Trump is trying to incite are mostly idiots. When I used to own my own store, I would get threats (not just just of boycotts of violence) because my employees were not required to say marry Christmas and we sold manoras and other non-Christian religious merchandise, and we had for having a section specifically for Kosher and Halal diets (because we had a pretty good sized Jewish and Muslim population in the area)

One guy told me to my face I was a traitor for selling "**********" food, and for not celebrating Christmas like a "real American", and said I deserved to die. I told him to get out, he refused, I pulled out the pistol I always kept under my jacket for self defense, and head it to his head. I told him flatout that since he threatened me and my employees, and refused to leave when ordered to, I legally had the right to kill him. I told him he had 30 seconds to leave the property or he would be shot in the head, and that he was banned from the store, and would be shot on sight next time he came onto the property.

That's great. But do you think that it would be a great country if it had always been a majority Islamic nation and was 90% Muslim instead of 75% Christian?

Who are you saying the queen sent and what theocracy? What role did it play? Converting or killing natives?

What makes a country Christian or not? Its open to interpretation, but I would say that Australia is not but it certainly has a strong Christian heritage just like the USA. Incredibly, it even still influences the Government in a small way - the Lord's Prayer is said before The House of Representatives and The Senate start proceedings each day.

What do you think my view is of how your system should be?

I actually haven't noticed. Although, given that we're more secular than the US, I would guess it would be handled much in the same way in terms of print, like the voucher pic you sent. And I'm not aware of store policies which say that employees cannot say Merry Christmas.

Most values that you call "Christian values" are shared by many other faiths, and in many cases by people, such as deists and atheists, who do not have an organized religion or religious creed. Christians just like to pretend that they have exclusive ownership of them.

Indiana. Here, if a threat is made, and the threatened person can reasonably believe their life is endangered, or the lives of others, even if the person making a threat has not brandished a weapon at the time of the threat, lethal force is permitted. It requires a direct threat of death in most cases. He was telling customers he was going to kill them and send them to "Allah", and told me I deserved to die as well. I considered that to be a direct threat against our lives. Lethal force is also permitted in the case of tresspassers if a property owner has legitimate reason to believe they pose a threat, which I did have, since he was actively making threats against my customers' lives.

The person in question made several threats to Jewish and Muslim customers, saying he was going to "sent them to Allah" (He said this to both Jewish and Muslim customers, since, like most far rightards, he's too stupid to tell the difference), and told me that I deserved to die with the, because I catered to them, and refused to follow Christian values like a true America. That's when I drew my gun on him.

    What faiths?

Someone doesn't need to be a Christian in order to have values which have come from a country's Christian heritage.

Surely this is not a common event from people spouting Christianity. Surely its not even common from a right winger who is just anti-Islam, or anti-Jew.

lol, no that is a war on other religions, if you allow religious propaganda of one religion you have to allow all, sad you think Christian should get space but no one else should otherwise it's a war on Christians

I'm not making it an issue in your country, I said I'm fine with it, but I just demand to know what function it serves. Things have to be done in order to achieve an outcome.

LOL! Are you serious? Okay, someone can THINK that they know the true meaning of Christmas which differs from mine, but they're just kidding themselves! It is CHRISTmas! It only truly means one thing. What other people think it means is simply irrelevant! Its like me saying that I think the true meaning of gravity is a force which sends objects up into the sky!

I have no idea - you'd have to ask someone who believes there is a war on Christmas, but I'm not one of them. I was just pointing out that I thought we were talking about what clerks say to customers, not what customers say to clerks, which is what you mentioned.
