An astronaut named Mark, arrived to mars to collect some rock samples for earth.

He collected 3 unique types of stones. Igneous rock, sedimentary rock and metamorphic.
Unfortunately, he was running out of oxygen and didnt have the time to label the sacks he put each rock type in. The result was that he mislabeled all the sacks.

How many rocks did he have to take out of how many sacks in order to find out what rock belongs to which sack?

One rock out of each sack? I'm sure this is too easy so waiting for answer. Or all the rocks out of all 3 sacks if he mixed them up ?

How many sacks did he have? I'm not even sure all the rocks are different types. I took a little horticulture in college but was more into plant science and soil types than actual rocks.

Sorry 3 sacks. Each sack contains the same number of rocks.

    You were right.

    One rock from one sack.

    Here is an explanation.

You withdraw the first rock lets say it is igneous rock. The rock, lets say came from the sack labeled rudimentary. Note that I said all bags are mislabeled regarding the rocks they contain.

So you are left with the rudimentary and metamorphic sack. You know that each sack doesnt contain the rocks they are supposed to contain.. Hence you know what rocks are in each one of the them.

I declare you as they winner!!

BTW, it was a riddle that I got as a candidate for a programmer vacancy.
