Colin Kaepernick appears on the cover of an upcoming issue of GQ after the magazine named him one of its 2017 Men of the Year.

Kaepernick, the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback, is pictured on the cover with the caption "Citizen of the Year." Late-night host Stephen Colbert, actress Gal Gadot and Golden State Warriors forward Kevin Durant are also recognized in the issue.

In Kaepernick's cover story, "Colin Kaepernick Will Not Be Silenced," GQ editors write that the free-agent quarterback wanted to contribute to the article and helped connect the magazine with 10 of his friends and confidants. He also posed for a series of photos in Harlem. But he declined to provide quotes for the story itself, citing a desire to remain silent.

"As his public identity has begun to shift from football star to embattled activist, he has grown wise to the power of his silence," the article explains.

Kaepernick garnered national attention last year by taking a knee during the national anthem as a means of protesting racial inequality and police brutality. He became a free agent in March and has remained unsigned this season, which prompted him to recently file a collusion grievance against NFL owners.

I'm honored to be recognized by @GQMagazine as Citizen of the Year.https://t.co/s6wBZTa6tH

As other players have continued the national anthem demonstrations that Kaepernick started, the quarterback himself has largely remained quiet. He declined to be quoted for GQ's story, which instead includes interviews with singer Harry Belafonte, rapper J. Cole, director Ava DuVernay and former teammate Eric Reid, among others.

"Had (Kaepernick not taken a knee), this guy would be making millions of dollars right now. Period, point blank," rapper J. Cole said in the article. "And more important than the money, he was living his dream. He sacrificed his dream."

Actually he would be making millions if he did not opt out of his contract does GQ mention that?

—including rapper J.Cole, director Ava DuVernay, activist Harry Belafonte, and Women’s March co-organizer Linda Sarsour—to speak on the subjects of activism, protest, and equality, and to offer some rare insights into Colin Kaepernick himself.

Yes he is buddies with Jihad Sarsour... No wonder you guys love the man so much

Dear lord, that picture of Kaepernick is scary and awful at the same time. He looks like a caricature.

He's free to make his own decisions ...does that somehow bother you?

GQ tries to hide and deny that he's still receiving millions of dollars for his contract.

He was NOT fired. He QUIT thinking he could use this to force the NFL to find him a place on a team that would pay him even millions more dollars. It was not a protest. It is an extortion.

I really don't know the target demographic of GQ since I've never read a single issue.

But I would imagine that any trashrag that names that piece of degenerate slime as "citizen of the year" and "new face of American hero" probably wasn't on the reading list of many right wingers in the first place.

The very language used is insulting.

Kaepernick isn't a hero and his racist ilk aren't the "new face" of American heroes either.

Hes just a dumb bigot that gave up a career and a **** load of money so he could insult people.

You watch, this is the last we hear of him.

Who is hanging out with Jihadist? Is that "code" for not doing what he's told to do?

There's plenty of people, unfortunately for them, he doesn't care.

A day sticking to Trump is a Good Day ... just remember, the bests day are coming when the investigation is concluded.

... and you can always tell when Mueller is getting close.

Nah, it's like being offended that Sports Illustrated didn't feature your favorite swim suit model on their cover.... Who cares if GQ wants to be racist on their very own? GQ wouldn't have put Colin on the cover for any other reason.

Only when he continually complains about the results of those decision and has others also doing it for him.

Zero respect for his actions or the way he refuses to live up to the consequences.
