His name is Ravi Bhalla and he is the second Sikh mayor in all of US-history.

Bhalla's opponent, Mike DeFusco, put out last minute-posters essentially calling Bhalla a "terrorist":



The ploy did not work. Sadly, DeFusco is actually a Democrat, an openly gay one at that, who should have known better than to do this kind of crap. Shame on him.

Yes, indeed, it was, for Sikhism has nothing to do with Islam and whether we like to admit it or not, Islam itself is not terroristic - it's the perverted application of that faith by some that is very terroristic.

 

I would disagree. ISIS are fundamentalists following Islam as intended and as followed during the first followers that conquered the Middle East and much of Europe.

 

Religions are inherently open to interpretation. There's no "right" version of a religion

Sikh's are very good, honorable, strong people, probably the best soldiers the world has ever seen. I would be very happy to have a Sikh family move next door. But you had better keep your word to them, they do not suffer liars.

Couldn't agree more. Sikhs have committed acts of terrorism in the past but branding all Sikhs as terrorists would be monumentally stupid, the same goes for Muslims. North of the border offers a glimpse of what can be, some 32 years ago the worst act of terrorism in Canadian history took place, the bombing of an Air India flight by Sikh terrorists - 329 people lost their lives, including 268 Canadians, 27 Brits & 24 Indians.

Fast forward to today, there are at least 4 Sikhs in Prime Minister Trudeau's cabinet, another Sikh is the leader of Canada's 3rd largest federal political party and countless others are involved in all aspects of public service in Canada. They are only 1.4% of the population but are extremely influential throughout Canadian society.

 

ISIS is no more representative of Islam than the Westboro Baptists are of Christianity

Pretty funny how you equate a group that has about 20 members to one that is representative of over 240 million people.

 

You are defending the wrong thing. I am not against a Sikh being elected. I am against judging the qualifications of a candidate based upon his/her religion, skin color, sexual orientation, only.

I got the impression from what I read.

I'd rather see how s/he voted in the past/ whether or not s/he has abused their power, etc.

Lived in a neighborhood in Sunnyvale, Ca. for a while where Sikh families owned an apartment building. Great people; they patrolled the entire neighborhood 24/7 in shifts. I would be very happy to have them as neighbors, too.

Surprised he ran as a Democrat, though; they are socially conservative for the most part, which is why the homosexual fetishist tried to smear him. Party affiliations mean little at local levels most of the time, anyway. Where I live, most of the electable Democrats are indie oil men and women, with the occasional former DA in the woodpile somewhere once in a while.

No, but they have that many supporters. I don't see a real fundamental difference between a member and supporter.

 

Sikh's have nothing to do with Islam which has been around for 1400 years where Sikhs have only been around recently.
Sikh is a Hindu type religion and consider the woman is totally equal to the man and there is only one God.

 

Going by that, though, Westboro Baptist has a lot more than 20. There are undoubtably millions of Christians who follow their mantra of '**** burn in he11'.

 

There isn't a single mainstream Christian church in the US that supports or allies itself with Westboro. There are literally thousands of mosques and imams that espouse Islamic extremism.
