Generally, men in their 50s have already done most of the stupid stuff they're going to do & generally, women in their mid 20s already know what they want in a spouse.
However, I think that a 30 year age difference is going to make a relationship impractical & lead to trouble down the road. The older guy develops health issues & the younger woman gets bored, restless & resents being a caregiver. I've seen it happen & it's not for me.

Really? I'm 11 years older than my wife but I fail to recall that she thought it was "repulsive" when I first flirted with her (she was 19 at the time). I believe the vast majority of heterosexual couples feature a man older than the woman. To each his/her own, perhaps it's not "repulsive" to you only if a younger man flirts with an older woman, at any age.

By older I mean well outside one's own age range. I'm not a fan of grown men dating teenagers, however, so I would say that 11 years is too big a gap for the 19 year old.

My position is that 5 years either way (older or younger) is a comfortable limit, once you're an adult. Personally, I would never date someone who was even 5 years older than me. Probably 2 years absolute max.

 

It's a good thing my wife never felt that way, we have 6 children and have been happily married coming up on our 40th anniversary. Like I said, to each his/her own. "Repulsion" is in the eyes of the beholder.

My grandparents were 14 years apart, married when she was 21. They were married for 50 years and only death parted them. They weren't blissfully happy, but then they didn't have fights or anything dramatic, either. Later in life (after he'd passed away), she said "he was too old for me".

And yes, repulsion is in the eye of the beholder. I'm extremely particular about appearances (yes, it's a flaw, I know - but I've gotten away with it since teen years so no reason to ever lower my standards). The only males I ever give a second look at now, in middle age, are those who have the bodies of athletes, and are at the very least ... above average in looks. Few men in middle age meet that criteria, and even fewer in the 55+ category. Thankfully, I've been happily married to the same very good looking and very fit man - who is the same age as me - for decades
