It wasn't just about Moore. The GOP agenda is unpopular.

It’s not just scandal: Moore lost in Alabama because the GOP agenda is toxically unpopular

The easy thing for Republicans to tell themselves after the stinging loss of a Senate seat in Alabama is that they only went down to defeat because the party had the misfortune to nominate someone accused of preying on teenage girls.

And there is something to that. But the Republican Party nominated a man accused of sexual misconduct to run for president in 2016, and that didn’t stop him from winning 62 percent of the vote in Alabama. Donald Trump didn’t just win Alabama a year ago — he won by a larger margin than Mitt Romney, John McCain, or George W. Bush. So while it’s undoubtedly true that the allegations played a role in the race, they hardly work as a comprehensive explanation of the outcome.

The larger issue is that the Republican Party is led by an unpopular president and unpopular congressional leaders who are pursuing an unpopular agenda, and it’s putting them in massive electoral peril.

Republicans have been ignoring warning signs all year
It is entirely normal for the party that occupies the White House to lose ground down ballot during midterm elections. That said, the GOP’s results in 2017 have really been quite bad:

Total BS. Moore did not inspire republicans to vote. Approx 50% of 2016 voted but approx 95% of Democrat 2016 voted. This was about personality.

I agree the primary factor for Moore's loss was all about him. But the fact remains Drumpf, and his agenda, are not popular nationally.

While the GOP insists upon drowning in denial these results will become ever more frequently in favor of the Dems.

Swammi says.... no. But thanks for trying. And frankly, who is in denial here? As a conservative person, I've been actively criticizing Moore, and even though I didn't believe AL would be complacent enough to vote for Doug Jones, there isn't any denial here. Moore was a poor candidate. He literally is the male version of Hillary Clinton. He is polarizing, bullheaded, and grossly out of touch. Sounds familiar, huh? So, we loses. 2020 will return the seat to a republican. AL just doesn't have sufficient votes to stop that.

Moore and the BLOTUS were separated at birth is what you meant when you were talking about flawed candidates.

It is now entirely up to Jones as to whether or not he manages to remain a senator from AL but given his track record he could make it hard for whomever goes up against him in 2020. That is a long way off and healthcare is a major issue in rural AL.

The difference between Hillary and Moore being polarizing figures being Moore's positions on gay rights and the belief god's law supersedes the Constitution made him an outlier before the matter of sexual abuse came up. Hillary is polarizing because of a decades long smear campaign while her political views are solidly center left.

Republicans will easily win the seat back in two years. Even with 100% dem 2016 turnout republicans only need to increase turnout by 2% to defeat any democrat.

Consumer confidence at all time high, record tax revenues, extremely low unemployment rate, etc., no wonder your panties are in a bunch.

You are forgetting the demographic shift.

The exit polls put Moore's support almost entirely amongst those reaching their Sell By dates.

Additional newly registered voters will all be younger Jones supporters so that 2% might have evaporated in 3 years time.

Is that still going to be happening in 2018 and 2020?

The last economic recession was 9 years ago and the cycle is usually only 4 to 5 years.

Right. But it shouldn't be forgotten that the base of the AL Repub party, which reflects the views of Don's base, has become so radicalized they nominated a candidate that caused some Repubs to vote for a Dem for the first time in their lives. Repubs across the country who are not devoted to Drumpf no matter what he does and says are similarly abandoning him.

Since I have no idea what YOUR political system might be that is utterly irrelevant here in America.

We can thank the low interest rate policy central banks around the world took for that.........in the face of overwhelming criticism from debt and deficit hawks who are now proposing to explode the debt.

Yes. But you can count the number of policies favored by the GOP that have majority support around the country on one hand.

Hardly. Which is supported by the wealth of coverage to the contrary, regardless of your baseless assertions to the contrary. Moore is Hillary without the bad teeth.. Jones' future isn't his to manage. AL won't tolerate his brand of the Chuck and Nancy show. The seat will be returned.
