Not ONE PERSON has ever said we should bomb N. Korea. So you'd be OK with Kim Jung Un wiping Seoul off the face of the earth - as long as we didn't do it. That's you new position, correct?

What makes you think that? You don't even have any undisputed evidence as to how much the Chinese or Russians spend on their militaries

And once again, if you do take the military spending figures at face value from Russia (as you apparently do) then the Russians spend a higher portion of their GDP on their military than we do.

I would be fine with spending the same percentage of our GDP on the military as the Russians do on theirs.

Would you be fine with that?

What does percentage of GDP have to do with anything? Should we buy a bunch of stuff we don't need just because we need to match percentage of GDP? That makes no sense at all

I think our social programs, medical coverage and safety nets would IMPROVE if we only spend what Russia spent! LOL

You keep claiming that "the Russians and Chinese get by with a fraction of what we spend".

I'm pointing out that the Russians actually spend MORE of their GDP than we do. Thus by your line of reasoning if what the Russians are doing is a good idea and we should do the same in absolute dollar amounts then the same reasoning applies to the percentage of GDP.

You can't have it both ways.

Why aren't you simply honest about why you want U.S. defense spending cut?

What does GDP have to do with anything? Should we buy stuff we don't need because we have to match their GDP level? That is madness

You be honest....you benefit from lots of military spending in some way.

I've never been in the military nor do I or anyone in my family work directly or indirectly for any defense contractor or subcontractor. So I do not benefit from "lots of military spending" to my knowledge.

He volunteered with full knowledge of whom he might have to fight and why.

You babbling about "fighting for corporations" reminds me of a Doonesbury cartoon that came out I the late 1990s.

One of the main characters sons after seeing "Saving Private Ryan" announced he was so impressed by the U.S. military that he wanted to join up once he got out of high school.

His dad (a skeptic much like you) said "You want to go fight North Koreans or Iraqis?"

To which is son said "North Koreans? Iraqis? No way dad. I want to fight Germans!"

Kids are naïve when they are young. They believe they are fighting for their country when you have readily admitted they are fighting for corporate profits. The older people in power have a responsibility to protect them from foolish wars. They are not your pawns.....they are heroes doing a job that you were unwilling to do. They are not faceless robots.....they are people with families. What you propose is horrible.

Oh cry me a river. You bleed too much. Adults are adults and only adults can volunteer to join the U.S. military.

Let me give you a clue Vg. The 1960s called. They want you back.

Why are you questioning my personal motives and background? I haven't questioned yours and used it against you in this discussion?

Because you do not care if young American heroes die for American corporations. That would be fine if YOU were willing to do the same. Why don't they just take their orders straight from the CEO of Mobil.....cut out the middle man

Because they should be used to the benefit of all Americans rather than a single corporation.

Well I agree about billionaires. Ted Turner once produced figures that showed that in his words "no one should have more than 300 million dollars"
