The amount of ignorant people coming out of the woodwork to support a protectionist policy, who frankly have no idea what they’re talking about and who sued to profess free trade economics, is frankly shocking.

That's the entire point of tariffs, they are used to remove unfair advantage foreign competitors enjoy and thus reinvigorate domestic industry which leads to the creation of new jobs. Duh, you should get some financial education dude, which btw pays much better than some paltry $73.5K in NYC ;)

Yeah, and what do those same economic textbooks say about ththat effects of tariffs, bad or good? Because I have an Econ. degree and have never seen an economics book say that tariffs are a good thing, not in any school.

I wasn't talking about steel and iron workforce, I was talking generally about tariffs on foreign export and how they stimulate domestic industries, create jobs and lift all boats.

the removal of tariffs and all those free trade agreements resulted in the loss of tens of millions of middle class jobs and devastation of thousands of American towns and entire regions. And somehow if what you are claiming was true I doubt the steel workers would applaud Trump today. Rest assured that Trump picked up the support of millions of union members this morning.

Why would Harley's increase in price ? Harley Davidson uses American oar and has it's own foundry.

We aren't stupid Mr. EU, we know who you are really targeting.

Who in the Europe actually rides Harley's, wear Levi jeans and drink American whiskey ?

And in the end, what happens?
We still have the same percentage of trade imbalance, we just stoke inflation.

It's called supply and demand. You are assuming the US price for steel will stay the same. It won't.

Says who? that's the whole point, we won't, tariffs balance trade.... The US imports 3.5 times more liquor than it exports and the ratio with Europe is probably even worse. The situation with bikes and cars is not much different, not a hell of a lot of Buicks in Berlin. Who is going to lose more in case of a trade war?

unless the competition will keep the prices unchanged but profit margins a tad lower.... which is absolutely within the realms of possibility and in fact supported by the supply and demand concept you just mentioned.

The whole agenda is rebuilding the American industrial base that basically really doesn't exist today.

Before the war taxes aka income taxes the federal government ran on mostly from the import tariffs that were collected.

Where do you think those 25% and 10% tariffs will be going ? Right into the U.S. federal tax coffers.

Have you ever bought a beer in a country like Sweden?

6 tourist getting loaded for a week could pay for their entire healthcare system.

Only Trump and the pro-Trump crowd (that will agree with anything he does (even if he burned their houses down)).

Any rational person is well-aware that the tariffs are a horrible idea.

So American consumers paid the tariffs as indirect taxes..
