I kind of understand the reluctance to use the old testament. Keep in mind it is the book written by Jews. The new testament is written by those of the Roman empire or in some cases, Italians. As the Pope today came from Argentina, back in those days a Pope could come from other lands than Italy. Curiously the story is unchanged for 2000 or more years. Quite amazing.
By golly, you see it like I see it. If you see 300 and more years as near the end, I see it as winding down. Not ending perse. If you see Jesus as a cult, I suppose you would want to deny Jesus, maybe at your peril.
According to Christians, the Bible is the spoken word of God. It is God's words, detailing in detail God's actions throughout the ages. The Book of Job is considered God's true and factual deeds, and they are very evil
I find it amazing that some people are willing to worship a god that who is protray burning humans for forever and a day for the sin of not believing in him or worshiping him in an approved manner. Are you yourself worshiping such a god out of fear of hell fire?
so I should burn in hell, for eternity, because I refuse to believe in a sadistic God that abuses innocent men who are faithful to him? well **** that, if that's who God is then I would rather burn in hell that worship such an evil SOB. hopefully someday a more benevolent God will destroy the Bible God.
Some is, most is not. I would say much of the testaments amounts to a history. History is just history. There you go. And you shall be rewarded. Enjoy the reward.
Calm down. In my church, we do not blow time discussing a hell as you describe. I can go to church all year long and never depart church feeling fear. Telling people they will burn in hell, even if true simply scares them. Apparently you are not scared so it must not have worked on you. But me, I have no fear.
You took a step towards GOD. A tiny one, but you mention a GOD of your liking. How do you feel about Satan and his followers? Are they a good group of souls?
The OT portrays God quite differently doesn't it? Exile from eden, original sin, Abraham and Isaac, Lot's wife and the two cities, Noah and the flood. You'll bow before God, and you won't question or pass judgement either. I'm Roman Catholic and I see ALL the paradoxes of both testaments. Jesus saves, but God cast down Lucifer. Jesus is humanities public defender before Gods throne of judgement.
Well I had not google it but the Caesar killing marking the end of the Republic was no latter then 70 AD or so if I recall correctly An of course the Rome republic was in it final stages for at least a few generations before that as the army move from land holding stake holders to paid troops that was loyal to their paymasters not the Republic an one civil war after another occur.
I find it odd that an all knowing and all powerful god would place the devil in charge of his hosts of angels and then half of them would follow the devil in rebelling against god. The story never seem to have any logic to it no matter how you look at it and the story was another jarring note to me as a young child.
I truly wish you had watched the Dr.'s video His video explains his brain death. He had a meningitis. Bacteria killed his brain. Ordinarly as a Doctor of medicine, one would not expect him to lie. Funny too how many Doctors do believe in GOD and many are Christians.
I know that story too. Tell me, do you believe humans are entirely logical? What If you were told that GOD has a learning curve too?
The ruler prior to Constantine amounted to a Caesar. Constantine changed things a lot. Do you recall his well known battle at the Bridge?
He may think he was talking to a poster who has not noticed that in the OT but he merely repeats an argument I personally once used to believers. I am LDS and we do not discuss this fire and brimstone taught by some churches. Not that we deny hell, but in our church we think there are more dimensions than heaven and hell.
Is it possible? What do you know about GOD? Who told you this bit about all knowing and all powerful? And thank you for the comment about creating the universe. That is my major message.
LOL where he became a Christian claiming that the christian god gave him victory but his conversion did not slow down the killing even of Christians who did not follow the approve manners of worship.
Constantine did not take Christians lives once he converted. Fact is, earlier on it was based in the law of the time as you recall.
If his brain was killed, he wouldn’t be around. My brother is a neurologist and esplanade how chemical reactions when brains are shutting down cause all kinds of effects If you want to believe that neurosurgeon be my guest.
As there likely no personal god christian or otherwise it kind of hard to do anything but follow the cultural and religion claims for this Christian god. No until we would have some indications of a real being that created the universe can we do more.
Come on they wiped out whole communities of Christians who did not have the same opinions on the nature of either god or his 'son'. Being a so call heretic was a death sentence and for over a thousand years or so.
Ron is jewish. I doubt he really wants to discuss the OT. Ron likes to be the victim of anti semitism. I claim the OT as part of Catholicism so the Jewish card is forfeit. Faith is personal, I address disingenuity, and hypocrisy not beliefs. Crucifying a man who does Gods work and claims to be Gods son, though he perhaps is not, isn't much different from killing the true son of God. How would ancient Hebrews know if God had begotten Jesus? It's no better than drowning a witch to prove guilt. Or feeding Christians to lions. Have your faith, don't ridicule others. Simple. Except Scientology ...
