You'd only have to register your gun if you planned to use it on public property; you;d mot have to register your gun after you buy it, to take it home, to keep it at home, or to use it on private property.
That said, there is no sound argument for the necessity of the state to have on record the owner of every firearm within its boundaries.
It is already felony for criminals to possess a gun; they will go to prison if found with one
What additional deterrent do you think registration will have that cannot be affected by simply increasing prison time for illegal possession?

I think that guns should be registered when bought and the registration renewed every so often so that the police know where they are and who owns them. I also believe in thorough background checks and longer waiting periods. You would not lose your right to own
and if you sell it, you would be responsible to notify the state. Right now guns are everywhere you want to be with no oversight.

There is no sound argument for the necessity of the state to have on record the owner of every firearm within its boundaries.
As such, there is no sound argument that such records are the lest restrictive means to affect a compelling state interest.
"Infringed". Infringement comes into effect long before prohibition.
Background check are no different than a police officer, absent probable cause or reasonable suspicion, stopping you as you walk down the street and detaining you while he checks to see if you are an escaped felon or have warrants for your arrest -- if you find this constitutionally acceptable, then I can see why you have no issue with background checks.
All rights are subject to the same level of oversight form the state, with the the same limits.

I don't think that you should be arbitrarily stopped by a police officer, and I have no issue with background checks. We are talking about a weapon and not about a toy. There is obviously a very sound argument for the police or the state to have a record of every owner
because of what the item is. Registration, renewals and a report of a sale is also a necessity in my view. None of these measures infringe upon your right to own a gun.

We have a new incident today, where three bombs have been placed on people's porches in Austin, Texas.
I expect that to boost a new demand for control of assault weapons and place blame on the NRA.
Why? Makes no sense, I know- but it would be just as logical as what they usually do.

Same formula for every bad event related to government incompetence and corruption, circle the wagons and craft lie narratives that lay -all- blame on the private sector or some other convenient scapegoat group. The chattering branches of the gov-edu-union-contractor-grantee-trial lawyer-MSM Complex are tasked with spreading the manure far and wide, and until the net, they did an excellent job of hiding the truth. Young, inexperienced people and stupid people fall for it today, not much of anyone else does. This is why voters tend to support more restrictions of government as they grow older and more experienced.

The LW sewer pipe calls this gained wisdom over time "conservatism," and we see the wishful thinking of "old conservatives dying out" fairly regularly on this forum posted by shills. That's not how it works, brain trust of the left, U.S. citizens will continue to -learn- to distrust government as they age, nothing you can do about it, and it won't "die out."

The NRA is like the local church, they're never responsible for anything. Bump stocks - great idea! Cop killer bullets - protect against government! Guns invisible to x-ray - how cool is that! Effective registration policies. OMG it never works! Nothing ever works except to arm the entire population - everyone is packing a rod! Arm the teachers! Arm the kids! Buy stock in gun manufacturers! Bless the NRA. They are God's gift to America. Our founders would be proud.

BTW, people that call progressives, Liberals, or Democrats "Marxist" know less about economics than they do about urinating.

Right now nobody has to register. Registrations are kept in the wallet like a car. Of course, criminals won't register but It would give the state better controls.
Does not affect your right to own a weapon, so what are you worried about?

    LOL!

Much more control over all of the law-abiding citizens who own and use firearms for lawful purposes and ZERO more control over the criminals who will use firearms for nefarious purposes.

    Yeah...that's the ticket!

Liberals are worried about our President. He really is a nutcase.

You know, if you don't take him too seriously, Trump really is a barrel of laughs. Just don't believe anything he says.

On Saturday, he said, "We can't just keep setting up blue ribbon committees with your wife and your wife and your husband, and they meet and they have a meal and they talk."

On Monday, Trump announced he will set up a blue ribbon committee on school safety led by Education Secretary Betsy DeVos. They will study the idea of raising the age to buy assault weapons from 18 to 21 and other policies on how to end school shootings.

On March !, after Toomey said raising the age limit on gun purchasing was not on his bill, Trump told Sen. Pat Toomey, a Pennsylvania Republican, "You know why? Because you're afraid of the NRA," Trump said.

On March 12, Trump showed he was afraid of the NRA. The White House offered these proposals on gun safety. The administration will work with states on what they called "rigorous" firearms training for "specially qualified" school personnel on a voluntary basis. The NRA approves. The administration is backing the "Fix NICS" bill introduced by Sen. John Cornyn, a Texas Republican, and Sen. Chris Murphy, a Connecticut Democrat, which intends to improve the information going into the National Instant Criminal Background Check System by offering financial incentives. The NRA approves. Trump is proposing an expansion and overhaul of mental health programs, including those that help identify and treat those who may be a threat to themselves or others. The NRA approves. The NRA does not approve raising the age limit from 18 to 21 for the purchase of rifles.

On Feb. 28, Trump called for raising the minimum legal age to purchase all guns to age 21 during a meeting with lawmakers on guns and school safety Wednesday, while suggesting that those who are staying silent on the topic are "afraid" to come up against the NRA. "I'm going to give it a lot of consideration," Trump said. "People aren't bringing it up because they're afraid to bring it up. You can't buy a handgun at 18, 19 or 20. You have to wait until you're 21. You could buy the weapon used in this horrible shooting at 18. You are going to decide - the people in this room pretty much - are going to decide. I would give very serious thought to it."

By March 12, the NRA was successful in buying Trump off. Raising the age limit is nowhere to be found in the White House proposal. Press secretary Sarah Sanders said that issue is being reviewed. "But we haven’t’ let go of some of those other things that we’re going to continue to review and look at, as I mentioned in the opening part of my first comments."

It should be noted that issue was reviewed after Columbine, Sandy Hook, Sutherland Springs, and Las Vegas. I told you at the beginning Trump was funny. We can all laugh at his comical performance.

    Or, should we cry?

They are the same thing. Buying a gun creates neither reasonable suspicion nor probable cause for the state to restrain the exercise of your rights.
Feel free to present said argument.
Be sure to cite how many times a crime went unsolved because the gun used could not be traced back to the person who committed the crime.
It infringes on my right exactly as much as having to register with the state so you can go to church, fly a flag up a pole or have an abortion - it is a precondition to the exercise of the right not inherent to same.

They do in California. What's gun crime like there?
Compare that to Vermont, which has no state-level gun control laws at all.

At least law enforcement would know one hell of a lot more than they know now.

Guns are not churches or flag poles or abortions. You keep whining about the second amendment. Even that protection isn't enough.

    You should cry.

If teachers were armed after Columbine, the other events could have been far less deadly.

Members of the FBI and the Broward Co Sheriff's office should be called into account and fired. They should be banned from law inforcement for life.

The failure of the FBI and the Broward Co Sherrifs Dept prove the big government is a failure. Especially when populated by liberals.

There's very little daylight between letting guns walk in the hands of the Mexican drug cartels and letting school age criminals walk without referring them to the criminal justice / background check systems. In the real world, Cruz would have been either incarcerated or adjudicated as mentally ill long before the tragedy and would have never been able to purchase a gun. Liberals would not have the graves they dug themselves to dance on.
