Good luck with that. Ford makes Eco-friendly econo boxcars that euro's can use with their high gas taxes.....BMW not so much. You'll hurt yourselves far more than hurting us. Americans will simply buy Japanese luxury cars instead.

Your list is too short, our beer is better and has more choices, Germany has Sharia Law zones that the cops don't dare to go into and that vaunted German engineering won them the last 2 world wars didn't it..........oh wait, that's not the way those worked out either.

Germany holds the top seat in the luxury car market with Audi, BMW, and Mercedes.
Lexus may nibble at the Audi, but it ends there.
Come to think about it 7.5% added to a BMW may not do much to US sales. Especially when you consider the price of US cars are about to go up because of steel.

If tariffs pushes Audi, BMW, and Mercedes prices those top seats may end up with Japanese cars as the placeholders.

I have just heard about the new tariffs on Asian imports of food and stuff. I think that will encourage more people to buy American food, of course, but, the tariffs on steel and aluminium seem suspect. If America was to raise the price of local goods, sure, the local market it seems will increase with it's income, but, the onus on importing would be higher.

So we have massive inflation. In a country where the price of goods goes up, salaries must also go up. This will up the value of the dollar, as you will be able to buy less with a dollar, and the chance to import will go up, while the comeliness of exporting will go down. With Americans exporting less and importing more, there will be less chance for local manufacture, and, with such a population, the prices of outside goods will go down further, yes?

The only way to rectify this would be to enter into trade deals with other nations due to political influence of the day.

Thats not going to work, take a BMW they get parts from 10 different eu countries . Who is to say the assembly isnt outside of germany where they paint the cars as and thats the country of origin?

You dont get how the EU works, germany can label those cars as coming from any of the eurozone countries. If you want to tax BMW you will have to tax every BMW coming out of the EU. If its just germany its very easy to get around.

    Conspire?

And the EU would just levy taxes back imposing tariffs on US goods.

And anyway BMW's makes more cars in the US then it sells think it has the largest car factory in the US. Not really a good example.

And the EU laughed back. Nobody takes trump serious in the EU.

And by setting tariffs he is starting a trade war: trump is trying to damage steel exports to the US because the US has been failing in that sector for decades.

Oh I dont doubt that, this is purely political so trump cant back down. Of curse if it turns into a serious trade war and he tanks his economy he eneds to get releected he's going to wish he didnt.

    Not going to happen.

As for the rest: mexcico and canada havent done anything besides also laugh with trump. NAFTA is still firmly in place and whatever negotiations that will be done about it, just like everything else trum has tried I doubt he's going to have much succes.

Nope, euro is much too high for the moment.

Lets not forget it started at 1-0.8 and then went up to 1.6 , its now something like 1.25. Sollar has been very weak these last almost 20 years.

Aka freedloading. In a fair trade system the US get owned so they tax to adjust the "balance" aka freeloading. They cant handle it normal as EU goods are more wanted in the US then US gods in the EU so they cheat and tax.

Its like putting some weights on a runner because "its not fair he is faster we should all cross the line at the same time" .

Man, you know about Operation Paperclip. The germans helped in a big way to get us to the moon. So your prejudice is showing. Germany had the first jet aircraft and the first rockets, the V1 and V2. We bombed them back to the stone age while they could not hit our industry. Industry won that war. We would lose bombers and ships and we kept them coming due to our wide open industry which was safe from bombing runs.

Our beer mostly early on mostly came from germans who brought brewing here. My father in law who worked on B17s in Sudbury England praised the engineering and intelligence of germans. Gotta call a spade a spade.

Call what ever you want........Fact is we kicked their asses and blew them back to the stone age, and most of them were stupid robots for the Furer.

I think the brits and the russians played a role as well. Russia lost more men fighting nazis than we ever came close to. But our industry was safe from german and jap bombs. Makes a difference.

I often wondered what made Hitler open up a second front. Some history buff may know the answer.

Germany tried to make a deal with england, but churchhill was not having any of it. Hitler needed to concentrate on russia, and could have if he had gotten the deal with england. He didn't and the rest is just history as they say.

What I never understood is while we declared war on japan, we never declared war on germany, specifically.

Nice that the EU has no tariffs. You are probably too good to trade with us, so I wouldn't sweat our tariffs. Selling to us is really beneath you, if you stop and really think about it.

Trading with us is frankly beneath you, so reducing our trade, is really a favor to you guys, if you really think about it.

It's up to you, you guys don't seem impressed with what we have to offer, so I'm good with reducing our trade if that is what it takes to return to balance. Either way works.

The EU can levy back as many taxes a it likes, but it will never be able to levy more taxes on American goods than America can levy on EU goods, because it doesn't buy as many.

America can demand certificates of importation from any importer.
How the EU "works" is 100% irrelevent outside the EU, which is where America is.

The EU wants a fight with America.
    Germany will lose it.

They dont need to, a huge trade war on large parts of the trade will be a sure way from trump to not be re-elected and to put the party in power in a very difficult situation.
Al EU needs to do is wait 2018-2020 by the time serious actions are taken the problem will resolve itself.

Sure it can and that BMW will be stated to be produced in whatever EU country BMW wants.
It has presence in all those country and can quite legally "assemble" & export them from there .

Trump already started the fight, EU didnt want this but they will fight it.

Trump wants it for electoral reasons, a small trade war of course that is ; nothing that would actually influence the economy as it would almost always be bad for the US economy.
