I really like the red beans and rice and the dirty rice at Popeyes, but thanks to Yios, I am now longing for those missing chemicals. ;-)

I tried Popeye's once and switched back to KFC.

Popeye's is more like the McDonalds of chicken.

    KFC tastes better.

The original recipe at KFC seems the same to me even after 50 years. I don't get the other two choices. I stick with the original.

Stuck in a hotel here. Just ordered a cheeseburger and fries. I'll probably regret it later.

My beef with kfc is that their ads show buckets, but their orders come in boxes. Plus their chicken pieces sometimes looks more like pigeon. But that aside, I like their original and love their cole slaw.

Yes, it was good but at 3 times the cost of a Big Mac meal.

I'd hate to have to tell you how many little bottles of shampoo and bars of little soap I have in a box at home. :D

My fondness for the red beans and rice is the clincher for me; Popeye's over-breads their chicken. It is good otherwise, though, and IMO it is probably fresher than KFC's.

I think the special taste in the red beans and rice is celery seed, based on research i have done trying to recreate the taste at home. It's a lot easier to just go to Popeye's. Cooking the rice is easy, but beans take a long time, and canned ones of course have additives that ruin them for the recreation project.

I like Popeye's red beans and rice too but strongly doubt they use fresh, organic ingredients. Canned or boxed is most efficient. :)

I remember back in the 80's how it was kind of neat to watch
the Galsy on my Tour bus act whenever we hit a Tourist stop.
The myth was spot-on,not just in Movies.Galsy love it at Tourist
stops. They go nuts buying souveniers.Like in the never seen movie
    - JOE - { 1970 } Susan Sarandon's first flick.It's actually a great movie.
About the best movie ever made of it's type.Starring Peter Boyle
{ was a Christian Bros. Monk once } as Joe { a hippie-hating blue collar
    bigot }.

There's a doctor doing Infomerials warning against eating Legumes.
He's like a former famous heart surgeon. He's been studying foods and
food groups and what is actually heart healthy.
After years of study and trial & error he's concluded that Legumes
are Bad.I woulda thought Legumes { with all that fibre are good }.
    But this Doc proves how a steady diet of Legumes { beans and such }
will lead to many health problems.
He insists that humans were not meant for plant like food.
That Humans do much better with a diet of Berries. He proved this
by treating an obese Biker who was nearing death. The guy was told
he had to lose a lot of weight or would eventually have drastic heart problems.
So this Biker On His Own decided to turn his diet around. He bought the
healthiest food he could get.A lot of berries. Now keep in mind he had
heart disease. So in about 6 months time he lost a lot of weight and
got a checkup. His Heart condition was almost reversed. So he stayed on that\
only heatlh food diet until he reached an acceptable weight. This Heart
doctor had never seen anything like it.This Biker cured his Heart disease which
this very famous Heart specialist surgeon told him was not possible.Which
may have been the motivating factor for this obese Biker to change his diet
completely. That is what motivated this Heart Doctor to stop doing heart
surgeries and go into the field of nutrition and what food groups most
benefit the heart and internal organs.he found legumes and plant based food
to be a root cause of many health conditions.

Ugh! I have some freeze dried food stored in case of "the big one". It includes meat. It's shelf life is like 30 years. Canned goods have a shelf life of only a couple of years, don't they? Don't know what that can costs, but if it's cheap, it might be an option if you're on a budget. Which reminds me ...

When my wife and I were first married, we both worked, but we struggled to make ends meet. By the end of the month, we had nothing left in the checkbook. Sometimes I floated checks for bills so the check for the bill wouldn't get in late, but knowing that by the time it was at my bank for payment, there would be money in the bank to cover it.

How many of us have done that?

Anyways ... I like lasagna. My wife can make a great lasagna. So we were looking for a way to save money so we wouldn't be so broke at the end of the month, so I suggested that she make a big pan of lasagna, cut it up into portions, bag and freeze the portions, so we could eat it over time. Well that's what she did, and we lived on lasagna for what began to feel like an eternity. After we finally finished it, we didn't eat lasagna for a couple of years, lol ...

Think the canned "burger is $6.86 at Walmart. I'd never heard of it until today when I saw this ad on FB.

Luv the lasagna story. Ive struggled, too but the most challenging times (helping out a gf & her 3 kids escape a bad man) required planning to feed a houseful of people. Hamburger, pasta, rice, beans, peanut butter, eggs, bread and cereals -- my weekly grocery list for 2 months. Still remember how good it felt when I could buy a piece of unground meat again. Lol

    :hungry:

Same temp here in the Willamette Valley in Oregon, but it is going to rain all day.

Not complaining, though. Rains so much here, we're all used to it. Keeps the place nice and green well into summer. And when you're commuting in the morning through the rain, nobody even notices. Traffic just moves like it wasn't even there. I laughed when a rainstorm hit southern California, and someone posted a video on YouTube of all the traffic in complete chaos .... because of rain. Lol ... Drivers probably didn't know what windshield wipers were or how to turn them on.

Downsides ... I have a truck I don't use much except for pick-up jobs. I store it in my garage during the winter because if it sits in the driveway through the winter ... moss grows on it. No, I'm serious. Moss grows on it!

    My world ...

    rain.jpg

Enjoy your sunshine, Miss Smartie.

When my husband was in college we knew to the day how long it took for checks to clear the bank. My husband had a friend whose bad check fee every month was more than we lived on. His Father was a dentist and he would bail him out on his bad checks I worked in the University and the guy was banned from cashing checks on campus. Frankly, we couldn't afford bad checks that were a big no, no. It is surprising what we lived on but we survived and are none the worse for the experience. Someone asked me how I learned to cook and I said to be almost destitute for a couple of years and you will be surprised how much you learn about cooking, when to shop for food and how to stretch money.
