I don't know where to put this. It will probably die here.

It's been five years (almost) since a bright light in my family was extinguished. He was a good kid, who just let himself get into the wrong place at the wrong time.

We are constantly lathered up about the latest outrage over mass killings, yet there are equally senseless individual murders that take far more lives and they get minimal notice.

Watch the video. It is eye-opening. The coroner saw no physical cause of death, despite having been shot in the temple.

(I wish they had called him a 'youth' instead of a "boy".)

Does this make you colder to the world in some way?

A bullet to the side of his head, #1, and then the coroner not knowing the cause of death, #2, and such a young person in wrong hands, #3?

Turns your hopes and brightful days 'off' to medium dark?

And if you're an adult, to think how such things weren't so rampant while you were 'growing up'.

The 'kids' or 'youths' are getting wilder and wilder. Yes? No?

Imagine what your parents felt when they were watching you grow up. Or even your grandparents..

'No, ma. I know what I'm doing. They're good people. You should really stop judging others.'

    Not to mention 'group pressure'.

    Good question!

I don't think so. I've always been something of a cynic. Plus, I've experienced the tragedies of other family members dying too young.

I experienced many of those things growing up, it was worse then in a sense, you could not speak openly about things as young people can now.

Peer presure was always a concern, my parents said, if you see your freinds jumping out a window, don't join them.
That simplistic metaphor really saved me.

I saw many of my freinds die young, not from bullets, from cancer, and other strange causes or getting crushed by cars crossing the street.

I don't think my patents knew about 1/2 the things I saw other children my age doing.

They were a corrupting influence on me.

Most young people will say, I know what I am doing, and wham ! They get killed.

Another 'steel' on the roads. See a million, 1 more doesnt make too much of a dent.

    Bullets have steel casings?

    Cars, casings... what's the diff?

What's the similarity? Blanks. Blank minds.

Driving aimlessly, living aimlessly, killing aimlessly..

Why not be a cynic in an aimless world?

    Sorry for your loss.

Kids sometimes don't grasp the danger in some locations.

Looks like he maybe took off from school for lunch or something and ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time.

When I was a kid the hamburger barn was just across the street from the junior high school so it was easy to get a burger or grilled cheese sandwich and fries and a cherry coke.

    Guess I was lucky.

Motorcycle accidents killed several of my friends when young.

Kid turns 15. Kid gets cycle. Kid gets killed in traffic.

I had to wait until 21 to get my first cycle.

Rode for 10 years, almost killed 5 times, but never a scratch.

Gave it up for my first 4WD off-road Jeep afterwards.

The death of a child is probably the most painful experience anyone on Earth can experience.

As Herodotus said in his book, which we attribute to being the first history book in history:

"In peacetime sons bury their fathers.

In wartime fathers bury their sons."

I saw My favorite Cousin for the last time maybe 1972 ?
I was a little Kid, and André My Cousin had a huge fight with his Father, and smashed the glass he was drinking from, and cursed, I am never returning to this home !

I begged him not to go, I saw the very shadow of Death upon him, later, at 3 a.m. the telephone Rang, old fashioned phone loud enough to wake the dead.

My Uncle was a Surgeon, an M.D. and the Medical Examiner for the Town, and it was an Official Call, he took the Big wagon that doubled as an Ambulance etc......

I waited up, and he carried in His Son, My Cousin Andre, dead, his motorcycle had been hit by 3 drunks and tossed him into a ditch, and he died.

I saw his torn up body, his Father took care of him, washed him up, sewed him back together, dressed him in a suit, prepared him for the funeral, then sat down and cried.

The death of Andre shattered many lives, my own too, and for a long time People asked if I was his Son as We went almost everywhere together.
It made us drift apart in later years.

    Thank You.
