North Korea says it may blow off Drumpf meeting, and 'sinister' US won't make it give up nukes

Maybe this is just posturing ahead of the summit, but it doesn't seem like it. It seems like the hopes of the world N. Korea would do the responsible thing and give up its nukes isn't going to happen. No matter what happens one thing is still true. The Bloviator-in-Chief gave Kim something no other American prez had given a N. Korean leader. The prestige of recognizing N. Korea as world power by agreeing to meet with him face to face. Perhaps all the talk of a peace prize for Don was really just naive optimism. But the minions sure were excited about it. Just like Charlie Brown.

What a surprise. NK was never going to give up their nukes because Trump asked nice

    This seems more realistic.

"From the outset, there was little reason to think that North Korea would agree to surrender its nuclear weapons and the infrastructure and labs required to build them. If we set aside the never-very-plausible idea that the Kims are madmen intent on prepping some secular apocalyptic nuclear confrontation with the U.S., a more prosaic, rational strategy becomes clear: build a credible nuclear deterrent, thus making military-backed regime change unthinkable. Then reach an accommodation with the U.S. from a position of strength and fundamental equality. Such an agreement might involve restrictions on nuclear weapons development, limits on numbers of warheads. But fundamentally it would mean accepting North Korea as a nuclear power.

Now the Trump administration appears to be trying to define “denuclearization” in such a way as to bring it into line with that kind of agreement. Most notably he seems to be focused now on eliminating the nuclear threat to the United Statesrather than North Korea’s nuclear weapons in general. That seems like it can be addressed by restrictions on missile capacity and/or some treaty which eliminates by some definition how much we consider North Korea a “threat”. Indeed, at one point, Pompeo has suggested that the U.S. is more categorical about North Korea getting rid of chemical and biological weapons than nuclear weapons – another hint that ‘denuclearization’ does not imply denuclearization.

Put it all together and you see a ‘deal’ in which North Korea gives up missiles that can reach the U.S., gets rid of chemical and biological weapons, and perhaps limits some ability to manufacture new nuclear weapons. In each case, North Korea gets an end of sanctions, partial withdrawal of U.S troops from South Korea and an undetermined amount of economic aid. (Note that this amounts to pretty close to the deal Republicans and finally President Bush trashed 20 years ago, only with the addition that North Korea has nuclear weapons and U.S. troops leave the region.)"

I'm an American. I root for America. I think our best chance of success is with someone other than Bozo the Drumpf being prez. Because he is a clown.

Oh, so you mean like how close we were to denuclearizing NK with the ultimate statesman Obama and his wiz crack shot sec. Clinton? But wasn't it not even Trumps fault that the Koreas were talking, but now its his fault that NK is pulling out of the deal?

From the looks of it I'd say we were equally as close to getting N. Korea to give up their nukes under the last two admins. But one admin gave N. Korea what they really wanted, recognition as a world power on the international stage.

You mean the S Korea Pres? But what does that have to do with anything? They have been committing abuse of their citizens for decades, ignoring a problem isn't the way to make it not exist. This isn't Chicago where you ignore the violence and maybe no one will notice, its still there.

Oh, I don't know, I'm thinking the nukes NK developed and then cooked off for the World to see accomplished the goal all by itself.

Of course, people who need to blame President Trump for everything would find that bit of historical fact impossible to admit.

And some people find it difficult to admit to the historical fact no previous American prez had given a N. Korean leader the propaganda tool of legitimizing the regime by agreeing to a face to face meeting.

That is the biggest stretch of a reason to complain about a POTUS if I ever heard of it. Its like you are complaining about Bush "legitimizing" the taliban by bombing them out of Afghanistan.

But trump didn't ask nice. He started bragging about his big win and then the idiot Bolton start prattling on about how the N Koreans would need to do everything that they were told in order to please the US. The kakistocracy struck again.
Nobody in their right mind would give up their nuke capability and then find themselves at the mercy of a bully like trump or believe that he would honor any deal anyway.
I would never expect them to denuclearize. They know it's their only security.

    LOL

Nukes developed and possessed by a Nation have this way of legitimizing a regime that apparently only rational people can understand.

The gullible need far left media outlets to tell them otherwise.

Why are we even trying to denulearize NK, that's like me asking you to give up your guns but I'm going to still keep mine.

    Exactly.

Only a Complete IDIOT would've thought N.Korea was going to denuclearize.

Of course, Trump IS a Complete IDIOT.

I agree. Hopefully they adhere to the M.A.D. principle. Kind of like an armed society is a polite society.

I think the issue people have is how quickly everyone applauded Trump for getting NK to 'give up its nukes', when that really hadn't actually happened.

Yep, and how some people jumped up and said Trump had nothing to do with the talks, so now they want to claim its Trumps fault for NK backing out.

Every prez prior to Don, every State Dept. prior to Don's, every Defense Dept. prior to Don's, agreed it would be a mistake to give previous N. Korean regimes what they strongly desired. Cultists, in their fawning admiration for Don's perceived infallibility, believe what they're told to believe.

People should applaud the President. Did Obama help bring about a handshake between SK and NK?

Do people think 60 years of continuous hostilities, and a nuclear armed dictatorship, would not include some saber rattling as attempts to change course move forward?

What people should be observing is how the afflicted on the left are cheering a bump in the road, because their affliction can't handle any potential success on the part of the President of the United States.

    Again, that's pretty sick.

To be precise, some found it a bit absurd to suggest the threat of destroying a country with fire and fury was deserving of a peace prize.
