Sounds about right. Try to stay within the lines and your mommy might buy you an ice cream. You'll have to excuse me now. I am about to go out on the deck with my beautiful lady friend and my dogs, Alice and Ralph to drink a fine bottle of California wine and smoke a big fat Humboldt county joint. Enjoy you coloring book, your huuuuge box of crayons and playing with your RTD...Good Night

I wish to inform all Californians who are thinking about emigrating to other states that it rains all day every day in Oregon, 24/7/365, over the entire state. And our mountains blow up too. Everywhere we step we have to watch out for water moccasins, and cougars, wolves, and bears are a constant threat. They especially like children and domestic pets. We have no indoor plumbing here either and very few paved roads. There are no jobs here either. Most of us keep chickens and other livestock for food, and we grow some meager provisions in our back yards and hope the floods don't wash them all away before the harvest.

Head east, Californians. His Oregon place is a hellhole. Worst mistake I ever made.

Food is what matters in this state, Kode. If you've got a little food to spare, you can barter.

OK, thanks for the warning Seth. I've heard a lot about those Oregonian Water Moccasins. Heads bigger than your's or mine and human children are their main diet. And also I have heard that 40 people a day are killed by wolves and mountain lions. I get nervous every time I get past Chico or Mendocino. I am staying put! Cheers mate!

Happy I could help. Wish someone had warned me before I got stuck here. Nothing but misery here. I miss my wife (cougar) and my firstborn (drowned in flood) .... *sigh*

Got any firewood? Nearly froze to death last winter. My bean crop is coming in, and it's looking like I might have enough to trade with ... well if a swarm of locusts doesn't get 'em first like last year ...

Map that shows the country broken down into regions that have the same population as California:

Just to give you some idea about how big the population is in just this one state.

What is happening in California is in essence a massively scaled version of neighborhood "white flight" and it won't be long until most of California is just one huge Compton.

it might have something to do with their fiscal status:

"I left southern California after 48yrs and moved to the Oregon coast. Quite literally two different worlds. I wouldn’t go back for anything. I got lucky and the house I bought in 2000 at $189,000 I sold for $600,000 in 2018. I am no real estate genius or anything. Purely it was happenstance but I have the popularity of California plus it’s inflated economy to thank for that. But since it is so expensive to live in California my best chance for retirement was to leave for another state.

When I moved to Long Beach California in 1969 it was pretty crazy even then and it was also multi-cultural so it still had it’s xenophobic and racial issues. After reading many of the answers here I can see that California in 1969 was ripe for all the bad things that people are complaining about happening now. Much of it is to do with population which has inflicted many other states with similar problems albeit to a lesser degree. The air pollution in Los Angeles was much worse in the 70’s although now the freeway system is at almost constant gridlock. In fact I think it’s safe to say that everything you do there is planned around traffic hours and the possibility it may take you 2hrs to drive 15 miles!!

The homeless problem in California has really become an unbearable problem for hardworking folks who watch their once nice neighborhoods deteriorate around them and consequently devaluing their homes. Everyone knows this is really caused by the huge drug problem. There are many shelters for homeless but they are all “drug free” and so they choose to sleep in business entryways and bus benches instead.

I worked in the construction trades doing HVAC. The bureaucracy of dealing with city government and environmental laws in California really got to be a little ridiculous. I don’t know how anyone can run a business there. I can’t tell you how many times I worked on projects where people invested millions on construction of a business only to shut their doors in less than a year! Sometimes never even opening at all because of city government demands.

I am so glad to leave California but I can't help but feel sad because it really is an amazing state! Unfortunately it is like a woman who is too pretty. Eventually she is over-exploited."

    - Kent Taylor, Musician Philosopher Comedian (Brain surgery on the side) - December 2, 2019. answer in Quora thread: Why are so many people leaving California?
