A major Minnesota public library is hosting three “drag queen story hours” for “all ages” this summer, featuring performers from an event company that specializes in “drag brunches.”

The taxpayer-funded St. Paul Public Library is putting on these events as part of its anti-Trump inclusivity campaign. It has defended its plans to show little children the hyper-sexualized crossdressers at some of its locations............................

“Come meet some fabulous drag queens and kings at the library!” an ad for the June 11 reading says. “They will read stories, sing songs, and strut their stuff for an over-the-top story hour. All ages welcome.”

I'm all for enlightened parents who want to expose their children to abnormal behaviors. They have every right to do that. What I question is the use of taxpayer funded locations to promote the deviant behavior. What do you think?

 

Drag isn't necessarily sexual. It's just an exaggerated caricature of gendered dress. Look at a few pictures of Dame Edna and tell me that this form of performance is sexual in nature.

 

Why libraries still exist is beyond me.

 

This is "Hyper-sexual" Maybe it will have the same effect as that show, Scared Straight!!!

Why not just throw on the Rocky Horror Picture Show and save us some money.

All the kids will learn how to play along with the movie as well.

Why does Netflix still exist? Why is terrestrial television still broadcast? How do films still pull 2 billion at the box office?

Anyone could just pirate all of this.

 

Well some movies have to bee seen at a theater at least once. Blade Runner 2047 was amazing on the big screen as was Rogue One.

I actually watch all of my TV shows and most movies online for free. Quality is good enough and I don't have to deal with ads or commercials. You do have to make sure to run anti virus, script block and firewall though as some sites are rampant with ads and viruses. I haven't had any issues myself but I run all those things.

If Netflix was reliable I would have no problems paying the small fee as its a steal. The problem is that they are constantly adding and removing stuff every single month and its ****ing annoying trying to keep up with all the changes. The second they do that I will gladly give them my money.

I used to pirate games alot but haven't lately as STEAM has so many sales its ridiculous. I have **** loads of games that I paid only $5 to $10 for that were $60 bucks just a few months earlier.

Someone on Nexusforums (popular game mod site) posted a study that showed that people that pirate stuff are actually some of the biggest spenders. They just spend it on games that actually work and use the pirated copies as more of a demo. I have done that from time to time myself. The only games I buy outright without hesitation are Bethesda Games and Projekt Cd and the company that made Metro (can't remember their name).

 

I have no problem with pirating, I have pirated many terabytes of data. But there's something about having a game legit, and I think that's why Steam has been so successful.

The same is true with books. You can pirate them, purchase eBooks legally, or have a physical book. I choose the latter, I read more when I do. I enjoy building a personal library in a bookshelf which can never be taken away by censors or copyright holders.

For me at least, it's a ritual. Sit on a comfy couch, light a cigar, have a coffee or brandy, and open up a book. What I enjoy about library books is smelling where it's been and the old pre-computer customer record slips - people who still write in them now there's no point. On the other hand, I like having my own copies because I can smell everywhere they've been and remember the state of mind I was in. I've taken Nietzsche's 'Thus Spoke Zarathustra' through Sils Maria, Switzerland; I've taken Plato's The Republic to the Acropolis of Athens.

They're then worth more to me than any other copy. If I read a kindle book somewhere like that there's no difference to reading it in a McDonald's toilet.

Definitely benefits to eReaders, I like them being much more easily readable while laying in bed as you can lay on your side and not rotate with each page. They can carry non-book material like .pdf's. You can easily leave notes to jump to. If I'm waiting for a book to arrive in the mail or can't bring physical books for whatever reason (hiking, etc), then yeah.

 

That is the shittest drag I have ever seen. It looks like It from the Stephen King movie went to Hell (from his perspective) and has to do children's parties as a normal clown for all eternity.

 

They aren't very much needed or patronized now and mostly serve as a refuge and washroom for stinky street people. They will go the way of the buggy whip inside 20 years.

The kids need to know about gender fluidity.

I am with you 100%. Maybe homosexual awareness has gone much, much too far but I agree that it should not be swept under the rug and act like it is a sin. What upsets me is the inclusion of what is described as government-funded "anti-Trump inclusivity campaign." Children are being taught that homosexuality is OK but that the president is a bad man and Democracy is a bad thing. WTF?!

 

people know what it is and can choose to come or not, just like if it was a heterosexual showing of a princess and prince reading books and dressing up I suppose

 

many still use the library here, older people and people that can not afford to buy all their books, great backup for society too in case the grid ever crashes and no one can access all the digital media

Your not the only one lots of people I know still by newspapers...well not lots but some because they like the "feel" of it. It boggles my mind cause you can get a subscription for less than $10 or $5 a month for most of their sites as opposed to paying $1 every day and more for the Sunday edition.
