It's the tradition of the siesta that does them so much good; and tequila.

Russians have vodka and have given in to fatalism.
So I don't think the alcohol alone can explain a positive outlook.
Unless the alcohol in Mexico is used in a more social context.

It is possible the year-round warm climate plays some role, and helps counteract the limited economic opportunities when it comes to the suicide rate.
Nature has a way of finding balance.

I virtually never say this, but james was perfectly correct with his 'gibberish' response.

ok now I might have to rethink my gibberish comment!

In any case, deaths of despair are warning sign that liberalism has grown to a critical level. Too bad liberals don't mind at all what they have done and in fact will double down and use it as a an excuse for more of the same liberal programs.

Are deaths of despair a warning sign? A liberal has to led to subject as if on a leash.

I'm not a liberal. Please stop with your gibberish!

Suicidology is a complex subject. The links with the business cycle, for example, are multifaceted (ranging from unemployment to stress). The title of the thread, however, is tabloid drivel.

In America you would be. (The word has totally different definitions on opposite sides of the pond, if you didn't already realize it)

So you don't care about all those suffering rural Americans... yep, sounds like a liberal

No I wouldn't. Americans aren't stupid. Socialism and liberalism are very different.

I don't care for cheapening an important issue with tabloid drivel.

What part was tabloidism? I stated in the OP that it was probably not quite as bad as it sounds now.

Maybe it's just impossible for you to conceive that things really were that bad in the U.S., or parts of the U.S.

The title was tabloidism. Your response to my comment was tabloidism.

If you'd like to refer to proper evidence, suggesting some sort of American specific effect, then give the reference. You won't.

No it isn't. It's brutally simple. The vast majority of us can and do weather the pitfalls of life, but a few can't or won't.

In America they are the same. Socialist and liberals are in the same party. The difference is socialists admit they want bigger govt than liberals although both want always bigger govt. They are both anti American or " consolidationists" as the saintly Jefferson would say.

Reivers needs to learn American English unless he likes to waste time here talking in another language

ok so too complex for you. Then don't comment. Just read along and try to learn something. Do they have debate forums in your country? Seems like serious missionary work is necessary in the old world?

Why don't you refer to any of the quantitative analysis provided by psychologists? Why don't you even refer to the myriad of economic approaches trying to understand changes over time and inform policy?
