Simply put, their Constitutionally mandated job.

I note you didn't include that option in your flame poll.

    Don't know.

The Supreme Court doesn't issue edicts. It reviews cases presented to it and applies Constitutional tests to those cases.

Do you believe current laws regarding race, gender, and abortion, are unconstitutional?

Perhaps you are suffering from a lack of knowledge related to what the Supreme Court is.

    The following might help.

    https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/articles/teaching-content/role-supreme-court/

The Supreme Court has a special role to play in the United States system of government. The Constitution gives it the power to check, if necessary, the actions of the President and Congress.

It can tell a President that his actions are not allowed by the Constitution. It can tell Congress that a law it passed violated the U.S. Constitution and is, therefore, no longer a law. It can also tell the government of a state that one of its laws breaks a rule in the Constitution.

The Supreme Court is the final judge in all cases involving laws of Congress, and the highest law of all — the Constitution.

The Supreme Court, however, is far from all-powerful. Its power is limited by the other two branches of government. The President nominates justices to the court. The Senate must vote its approval of the nominations. The whole Congress also has great power over the lower courts in the federal system. District and appeals courts are created by acts of Congress. These courts may be abolished if Congress wishes it.

The Supreme Court is like a referee on a football field. The Congress, the President, the state police, and other government officials are the players. Some can pass laws, and others can enforce laws. But all exercise power within certain boundaries. These boundaries are set by the Constitution. As the "referee" in the U.S. system of government, it is the Supreme Court's job to say when government officials step out-of-bounds.

I think laws related to sexual preference, same sex marriage, etc., are all safe under the Equal Protection clause of the Bill of Rights.

What the Supreme Court shouldn't do is make law, and that has been a problem in the past.

That's certainly a hot button issue today.

Personally, I don't understand why anyone would refuse to take money from willing customers.

Do you know how the Supreme Court works?

It should look at laws and say they are Constitutional or not based on the exact wording without applying any moral, political, or any other bias. They should not be deciding any of that stuff, those things should be decided by either the legislature or the states.

I think abortion will only end when society decides that it will end. No law will cause that, so I dont care.

Obama said that elections have consequences...

If only Russia didn't cause Hillary to lose her Landslide with Facebook ads nobody saw or remembers, the collective would be stocking the court with political hacks today.

Perhaps it is. There is not a small number of US Citizens who disagree with abortion, so I'm sure they would like to see it overturned. They do have a right to think that, don't they?

What is interesting for me to view on flame threads like this is the indication that people don't appear to be familiar with how the Supreme Court works.

For example how would the Supreme Court go about changing Roe v. Wade?

Simple, read the Constitution. research and understand the original intent of the framers and of those who sponsored the amendments. Make decisions based on that.

Not really. I simply want the SCOTUS to go by what the framers intent and meaning of the Constitution they wrote and those who proposed and voted on the amendments of the Constitution as they were originally meant to be taken. That means leaving any political agenda one way or the other out of the equation. It's not that hard, there are millions of documents, letters and books on the framers and the arguments put forth at that time. Finding original intent should be a fairly easy task if one is willing to research it.

Journals have been kept for both the House and Senate on all the debates that took place on the amendments along with letters and other documents.

If the Supreme Court were conservative they'd follow and honor the Constitution and systematically take and break cases tainted by liberal activist judges...

Even though I checked "Ban all gun regulations", I only did so because it came closest to what I would like to see happen. I do not want violent criminals or the criminally insane to have ready access to firearms nor do any of the gun owners I know.
Additionally, I checked "Ban all forms of Affirmative Action." simply because it is discriminatory

Otherwise, I don't want a Supreme Court to do any of the other 7 things you listed & regardless of who Trump appoints, I don't expect any of those 8 things to happen.

I would like to see the various unconstitutional & confiscatory gun bans & draconian gun/magazine laws that have sprung up in CA, NY, IL, etc struck down because they clearly conflict with the intentions of the Founding Fathers & do nothing to make anyone safer.

Even though I am not looking for a job, I feel that Affirmative Action adversely affects everyone & should be offensive to minorities because it suggests that they cannot compete on a level playing field.

Regarding gay rights & abortion, I would hope that Roe v Wade stays intact & that consenting adults remain allowed to put the appendages / inanimate objects of their choice into the bodily orifices of their choice in the privacy of their own homes.
