I spent 20 years around Salafi.. there was music blaring out of every shop in the souks and every taxi cab.

 

Salafist listening music ? A new concept.

 

Who told you they didn't like music? Maybe ISIS or the Taliban, but not Salafi.

“There will certainly be people from my Ummah who will attempt to legalize fornication, the wearing of silk (for males), the consuming of wine and the use of musical instruments”

Please, just type on youtube "music islam" and there is dozens of videos of salafis saying they stopped produce/listen music because of Islam. There is too a video of Zakir Naïk who is well respected among muslims, I didn't posted it because I don't understand his accent and I don't post content I don't understand.

 

Lots of Western Muslims and new converts like to claim they are Salafi, but they aren't.

Isn't Zakir Naïk from India or something?

 

Meanwhile, back to marriage of minors...

 

As someone who has been raised in a Western society, I think that it is wrong on many levels and does a disservice to the child wife, again, in Western society.

I only spent about 11 months wandering through the Islamic world but since I was by myself, I was much more aware of the surrounding culture than if I had been with a group or another Westerner.

There were aspects of the Islamic culture that I found more admirable than those of Western culture such as their extreme emphasis on hospitality to any traveler of any culture and aspects that I was raised to believe were "wrong" such as the subjugation of women.

An adult man taking a much younger wife may work in a culture that has practiced it for centuries. I simply don't know and it is not my position to judge what may be the norm in another culture.

 

The marriage of the 11 year old has created quite a stink, hasn't it? Its VERY unusual.

 

If people think its acceptable then they approve of child rape. They need psychiatric help. How common it is, is not the point and only highlights the extent of the problem of which you type help fester.
Its a sick world that allows and endorses such behavior and traditions.

 

Why do you think its in the news? People in Malaysia and Sri Lanka are incensed.

Islam varies from country to country and cleric to cleric.. I go with KSA because that's what I know best. I don't know what Hadiths Indian Muslims believe.
