Heyo. 29-year old guy from Norway here.

There's not that much to say about myself, really. I enjoy talking about practically anything, though my main hobbies are Anime/Manga and gaming. Especially gaming. Got more hobbies and interests, though they aren't exactly relevant to the forum unless specifically asked about them or there's a thread about them.

And yes, I also like politics, which is why I registered on these forums to begin with.

    Cheers!

Velkommen! ... so many myths about your part of the world ... nice to have someone here who can put us straight about them.

I've always admired Norwegians and Swedes because you were able to separate from each other over a century ago without having a bloody war. An example for others.

Welcome aboard! I saw a few of your posts in a few threads and noticed that you are "classical" style liberal, or said that you were. Anyway... I am of the same bent, but also liken myself to a JFK style of liberal which is basically the same thing. I wish there were more Classic Liberals around on this forum. It's an interesting place.

    Again, welcome aboard!

    Hey!

I was there once with the US military. I didn't have much time since I was an airplane mechanic, and when we were on the ground was when I worked. I wanted to buy cross-country skis, but didn't have enough time to properly shop for them. I ended up getting a souvenir coffee cup:[IMG]

The area that I was at looked a lot like south-eastern Ohio to me... with added ski-jumps.

I ended up getting some Rossingnol "backcountry" style of waxless skis once I got home.

    And...

I own this exact motorcycle (Husqvarna TE410). The nutjob pictured must be seen to be believed.

Thanks for increasing the level of discourse here.

I suspect he might have been, if the South hadn't had slavery.

In any case, you need to think this thing through. Suppose the South had broken away, one way or the other, and formed a slave-owning Republic.

    At least two consequences:
    (1) in the South there were about 8 million whites, and 4 million Blacks. Slavery would have been abolished there eventually... probably by the end of the century. You now live in a country where Blacks make up 13.5% of the population ... but apparently you'd prefer to be living in the Independent Republic of Dixie where they would make up ... at least a third of the population. Of course, they wouldn't have been allowed to vote for a few more decades ... and you could hope they would all migrate to the other independent Republics, but over half of Blacks still live in the South today.

And (2).. Southern independence would possibly have meant Western states independence, and possibly another split or two. Plenty of room in North America for half a dozen countries.

In one sense, that would be great ... gigantism doesn't mix well with democracy. In an ideal world, we should all be the size of Norway. But ... we live in a nasty world. I'm personally happy that, at this period in history, the baddest brother in the 'hood is a liberal democracy. This won't be true very soon, historically speaking, and we may regret it.

Way back in the day I cruised IRC and ended up going to a Swedish site and found the Swedish women to be most polite.

That sounds even worse! Although it was IRC in the 90's so if they said they were school girls they were probably 45 and living in their mom's basement lol.

Heh. Well, Denmark, Sweden and Norway have hundreds of years of history to speak of. Despite all our conflicts we get along pretty well.

Yeah, I am not too fond of labels, but I'm a Classical Liberal if you were to use a label to define most of my political views. Liberalism have been tainted by loud-mouthed SJW's and the insanity that the Left-wing have done to basically ruin the good name of it. Liberal in this day and age have become synonymous with "Moral Authoritarian", a term which I utterly despise.

And yes, believe it or not but I used to be a Left-winger. I left the Left because I figured out they weren't for me. I found out there's such as thing as too much tolerance, and pride in one's nation is essential to its survival.

Cheers, man! I may be a damn out-of-time Viking, but I do my best. :D

A pint, huh. Should be about $10, last time I checked. I don't really go to bars much. But if you want cheap beer, buy "Tuborg". I just call it the poor man's beer because it's cheap and taste like crap. xD

Indeed. We peacefully parted ways back then. Danes and Swedes for some reason seem to have a fondness of Norway. :p

Kids are taught to show a bit of respect and politeness from a young age. It's to prevent them from becoming utter t***s later on in life. Well, it doesn't always succeed, but hey. At least the women here are gorgeous. :D

I was never as far left as you used to be, I was maybe a little center left, but not by much. I'm not sure if I'm as far center right currently (I should retake that test), but pretty close to where you are currently going by that grid. I still call myself a liberal because that's what I am at heart, I believe the word "liberal" has been hijacked by the regressive left and SJW progressive types who fit into that regressive leftist authoritarian mold. It pains me sometimes to see people go on about liberals, but then I realize that I don't fit into what they are attacking, and most times end up agreeing with those that challenge others that call themselves liberals on this forum. It's weird.

Like you I'm not too fond of labels but classical liberal seems to fit me best too, but around here you will be labelled whatever they throw at you... so be ready for that. I have been labelled a Nazi, a right winger, and a leftist on multiple occasions.

Glad to have you and watch out for the loudmouthed SJWs around here, there are plenty.

    Have fun.

    EDIT:

Oh, I did retake that test and we're aligned very similarly according to the one I took at politicalcompass.org, if that's where you got your results from. Although I found a few of their positions and statements a bit odd and could go either way on.

    My results...

For 2 years and 3 months already I've been called everything from a xenophobe to a bigot to a white supremacist, though this is elsewhere. Words don't phase me. Name-calling don't work on me. I will not bend my principles or values just because someone wants me to. I don't work that way.

And recently I was directly called a Nazi. The irony of the whole ordeal is? I was talking about how the Left is using Nazi as a term to
    a) shut down or attempt to shut down their opponents
    b) shut down conversation
    c) throw as an insult towards someone they disagreed with
    d) use as a label towards anyone who even remotely lean Right

Boom, I was called a Nazi. The lack of self-awareness by the doofus who did is hilarious as hell, suffice to say.

Been there a few times myself in similar situations. I don't think the word Nazi has quite the stinging power that it used to. Especially when I find those slinging the word around willy nilly using the same tactics they accuse others of using. It doesn't affect me much either and is good for a laugh. The scenario in which the person called you a Nazi after you were talking about how the left is throwing around the word NAZI is deliciously ironic. A lot of them have become what they hate and don't even realize it.

Oh yes. If I could cash out on the irony of these morons I'd be a billionaire at this point.

It's this sort of garbage behaviour which
    a) Got us Brexit
    b) Got us Trump
    c) Is the reason people are leaving the Left
    d) Helps create/promote what they claim they want to avoid/prevent

Because learning from the past and learning the course of actions that were taken is for some people, impossible to comprehend.

Or just maybe the Southern Plantation System would substitute the Yankee Factory model.
Then you pay the employee for work and not their sick, elderly, non productive relatives.
You pay them in Plantation script redeemable at the Plantation general store and of course deduct the rent for their dwelling. And the workers are free too. :woot:

Well, yes. And, the Plantation would also own the store and everything else. There would be very little in the store, and long queues to buy what there was. We actually had economies like that covering a third of the earth until a few decades ago.

Linux? Not really. Been using Windows 7 since it came out, and I am going to be using it until its support dies. Quite frankly, Windows 10 looks like a train wreck. :p

I'm on Linux Mint 19 right now. Thanks to Steam and so many of its games supporting Linux, it can run an impressive selection of games natively. And then I have a Windows XP VM for playing some older titles. I have never been a Windows user, so I'm always looking at alternatives to it, and will tolerate using it in a VM. It can't get in my way or cause too much damage that way :D

The Yankee Factory system was designed for the wealthy.
The weaving mills of New England were renown for child labor
because their little hands could work in the active, machine looms.
And as they got sleepy over long hours, they might lose a finger.
    So superior to "slavery"
Well the idea of "wage slave" hadn't occurred to the abolitionist nor bloody Lincoln.

This would be 30-40 years later. Well known for its' depiction of Yankee factory workers.
    https://www.amazon.com/Jungle-Upton...554&sr=8-3&keywords=the+jungle+upton+sinclair
Then there is the chicken processing factory portrayed in "Far and Away" and the living conditions. Probably softened from reality.

What does our Norge member have to say about that, ja.
    Vikings had slaves.
What would his Viking ancestors have thought to a "peaceful"
dissolution of any Union of Nordics without one battle?
What would the Viking word for "wus" be?

Me too. After a couple of months, I learned how to disable the "upgrade to Windows 10 free" pop-ups.
