Seriously, I do favor Australia adopting a more internalized economy.
But, they missed the boat on that being now so integrated into a Marx Lenin Nightmare of the Global capitalist. Really.
I do not buy the Australian mantra of "Grow We Must" as opposed to a more "Sustain We Must".
The fears of an internalized economy seem unproven compared to the reality of
Australian kids in the same job as their parents will not be able to afford the same standard of life. Or anything close, accounting for reasonable appreciation.

    Is it too late.
No foreign ownership of Australia. etc.
    Close the immigration gates.
    MAG the first time ;)

I love it when arrogant people who live in the most arrogant, screwed up politically, undemocratic, interfering, bullying country on the planet can sit back and give advice on things that they know very little about

    Thank you.

BTW look where not taking the advice got you over the last decades.
Iddy biddy Asian Apartments that were exempted from code may become your standard.

If not my advice, will you accept my opinion?
You had a chance to set up a righteous, independent, continental economy and sold it to the globalist profiteers. To create dependencies where you really did not have to do so.
YOU could have had a sustaining economy rather than be a cog in the global economy and their internationalist profiteers. Not so. Got Natural Gas cheaper than a Japanese customer?

Too bad it takes a Yank to point these rip offs out to you.
    :)

Some of the different names for the same thing came from different groups of invaders. The Celts were invaded by the Romans, Anglo Saxons and perhaps worst of all was the French, AKA Normans.

Not to mention multiple meanings for the same word.

As the light of day dwindled he shed the light load that he was carrying and made ready to light the fire around which he would make light of his day's journey.

Problem with our economy is that we have a federal government that allows corporates to run amok and has no vision for the country, just making sure the shareholders - rentiers - get thier loot. Sadly I'm not that hopeful that the new Labor government will be that much different. culldav is right, we're idiots.

Everyone has to start facing the real facts. Australia was one of the natural resource richest countries on the planet. However, its become a destitute country that is quickly sliding into bankruptcy. The total of Australian debt has already hit $6.9 Trillion and increasing. http://www.australiandebtclock.com.au/ Just watching these debt clocks should scare the crap out of anyone.

Like you Diuretic, I spent a lot of time blaming the politicians and the Government for Australia’s problems, but not anymore. The blame lies with the Australian voters, who keep electing these incompetent politicians and political parties into power.

As Albert Einstein once stated: “its clinical insanity for someone to do the same thing over & over again and expect a different outcome”.

Well, what does this tell you about the mentality of the Australian population when they keep re-electing the ALP & LNP at the State and Federal level every three years like clockwork? LOL

I sincerely believe Australian voters are trapped in some form of “Stockholm Syndrome” regarding the relationship between themselves and their politicians, but this sycophant idolism towards politicians and political parties is not going to end well for the Australian population.

I think anyone by now who has half a brain would recognise and understand that the major political parties have had enough time (over a Century) to prove they are competent enough to manage a wealthy countries natural resources and social assets for the benefit of the countries inhabitants. I would need a year to document all the failures committed by the ALP & LNP towards the Australian people - Australian people includes everyone living in Australia.

The first lesson a year 9 economics student learns; is that a business doesn’t sack an incompetent manager, and then re-hires the same incompetent manager 3 years later. LOL LOL

Doesn't it beg the question: "why do Australians keep re-electing the same politicians and political parties, who they sacked 3 years previously for incompetence? LOL

Probably because your political parties are bought and paid for.
Basically the same. A little cake decoration difference to yell and scream about as if they mattered

Another problem is your lack of separation of powers.
Your Chief Executive is elected through the Party and not the people.
No Donald Trump for the people to choose.
Only this party's old hack vs that party's old hack.
That makes it harder for the voter to have an effect, if any.
Rubber stamping this bought and paid for senior party hack vs that . . .

It is a shame, like :flagcanada:
to witness an English speaking people come so close to FREEDOM
    and not make it.
    Got Guns?
Meanwhile you surrendered your guns and gun crimes continue.

    How can it be "honest"?
If you vote "Conservative", you get the Conservative Party senior hack.
    Or likewise any party.
You are unable to vote for someone else of the Conservative Party for Supreme Leader.
And of course the senior party hack is the most bought and paid for of a party's membership. eh

Trump and Bernie were voter rebellions.
Not possible under your controlled system of voting.
And fined if you don't vote. How Sovietsky. Got FREEDOM?

I thought it was the Electoral College which chose your president, not the people?

    Technically but not practically.
The Greatest State of California requires its' Electors to vote as the people instructed.
Rarely do electors do otherwise and it has never effected the outcome of an election.

So wouldn't you like to vote for someone in your party of choice who is NOT the Supreme hack?
YOU can't, can you? :flagus: :salute: can.
    Got FREEDOM?
    How would you know.

All 55 votes from California went to Hillary Clinton. Were you happy with your vote for her?

I have been to the USA, probably coming again soon. I know from expats living there you have no more freedom than us.

We though have more peace of mind. We are more at peace with ourselves and others. We don't have a paranoid fear that drives us to the extremes a significant proportion of Americans go to protect themselves from each other and their government. We have a higher standard of living, a working universal health system, easily accessible world standard tertiary education system, we punch well above our weight in just about everything. Look at our sporting achievements, our scientific ,industrial and political achievements compared to the differences in population.

I would live in Australia if it was twice as bad before I would live in the USA if it was half as bad.

    It's the State's Law.
    Not the Federals.
    Not a good law.
I would award the Elector by the Presidential winner of a Congressional District.
    Not the State's popular vote.
    But, that's Moi.
And I like the mixture of popular and geographical representation.

You need proportional representation and then you would know true freedom and the happiness of voting for a party whom you can trust to select a good leader. You can also chuck them out if you find that your trust was misplaced. Much easier than impeachment.

The problem with a lot of Americans is that they have an over inflated sense of self importance combined with very little knowledge of how others think or live.
