If Democrats worked this hard at work, they wouldn’t need to be Democrats.

 

It needs to be part of the vetting process.

Grassley is trying to limit any such vetting (as he did when he concealed Kavanaugh's entire record in the Bush White House), and falsely portray it as a he said, she said thing, which would allow the Republcians to assault the character of the accuser (right wing media wasted no time on that!).

That isn't going to work.

This process won't look like anything less than a GOP railroad job if there isn't a third party inquiry and discussions with contemporanious witnesses.

And since Chritine Ford has insisted on that, they're in no position to say no.

If they try and run over her, they'll suffer in one of the key demographics that helped Trump over the top. Educated suburban white Republican women. And since their prospects don't look too good for November, they're rather not have this albatross hanging around their necks. They're already stuck with the orange one.

I grew up in that atmosphere. I knew the toney prep school world

This sort of thing didn't happen all the time in those days, but it did happen. Forty years later, I can still recall an incident not unlike this that happened when I was an undergraduate. I wasn't there. But I knew a lot of the people who were. And I knew the girl that was involved too.

I think when the FBI looks into this, that they're going to find that Kavanaugh and his sidekick were notorious around their prep school circle for a particularly gross and flippant sort of frat boy behavior, of which this sort of thing is a part.

Althought I am inclined to believe her, because the scenario sounds so familiar, I will wait to see what she actually has to say, or what the FBI finds.

I am opposed to the Kavanaugh nomination. But this has nothing to do with my opposition. I am opposed because of his signalling that he might give Trump a get out of jail free card.

 

That sort of common knowledge would have turned up in the FBI background checks long before now
