We made music videos of us being "tactical operators". Those were hilarious. I just found the files. We are going to play one of them at my wedding reception.

Oh so you're saying that we should only dissolve the "Army" because it's called "Army" and it's arguably Unconstitutional for us to maintain a standing one of those. I say arguably because Article 1 Section 8 is sort of open to interpretation if you want to start digging in to semantics, however, it is clear that at least some of our Founding Fathers were opposed to a standing army.....at the time.

The real question is that if we could magically transport our Founding Fathers to the year 2018 would they still hold their same sentiments in a modern world with modern globalized current events which are all completely beyond anything they could have even begun to fathom during the time when they wrote the groundwork for development of our nation.

As I said before, there is no authorization to create an "Air Force" in the Constitution and the Army Air Corps separating into the US Air Force was technically Unconstitutional because there is nothing in the Constitution granting Congress the power to do that because.....there was no such thing as airplanes when the Constitution was written. That doesn't mean it would make logical sense to dissolve the Air Force in the year 2018...

Or we could make it easy and just change the name of all branches to Navy if enough people seriously have a problem with me having a full time job in the US Army that is technically not supposed to exist...

You've simply repeated the same crazy argument.

Please put, "dissolve the standing Army to prevent sexual assault" as one of the planks of the Democratic platform for 2020.

Not only that, they are going to open up another front and take out all of Europe's armies. Who know ~ they may even find a few allies there.

It was unrealistic in their world, and they knew it, which is why Congress was explicitly empowered to maintain one in the original Constitution.

Big government wasn't your motive. You want to dismantle the Army because of sexual assault.

First, Madison was not the Founding Fathers. Second, nothing in that quote militates against anything I said. Even if Madison thought standing armies were evil, that hardly means he did not consider them, like government, a necessary evil.

While I like the idea of no standing Army from our Founding Fathers point of view, obviously it's unrealistic in today's world.

The idea: "James Madison addressed the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia on the dangers of a permanent army. “A standing military force, with an overgrown Executive will not long be safe companions to liberty,” he argued. “The means of defense against foreign danger, have been always the instruments of tyranny at home. Among the Romans it was a standing maxim to excite a war, whenever a revolt was apprehended. Throughout all Europe, the armies kept up under the pretext of defending, have enslaved the people.”

    Good lord.

    Phooey.

Mebbe we should do like they do in the Swedish army where male & female recruits share the same showers.

Pilgrim, there was nothing there to catch on to - or at least nothing I hadn't already been aware of for years.
That's one way of looking at it. Another, of course, is that it's a helluva lot easier for an egotist to close his eyes than to allow into his mind anything that threatens his dearly held misconceptions.

As I said, I was hoping you'd catch on. That's past tense.

DUH. There's a myriad of reasons why women have no business in infantry, and this is just one of them. Legs fly open at the drop of a dime and that opens a can of worms that can't be closed.

Thank Obama for this crap. IMO he wanted to weaken the US military and this is one way he did it.

Let's see I joined the army in 1982 and that was the start of coed service, and I don't think Oblama was president then...

    Where have I said this?

Women are not physically suited for front-line combat. That should be obvious.
