I think not. He is happy with Gorsuch and Kav and would put nine textualist conservatives on the court if he could. Kav. The Kavster. "Call me Kavster, Chef," he like to say.
Neither party cares about the will of the people, it is all about political ideology - nothing more. He will stack the court every chance he gets; they will gerrymander their districts, ignore popular opinion, and pass legislation that benefits their pocketbook over the American people.
Why Amy Barrett? She (like Gorsuch and Kavanaugh) would just be another robotic Thomas clone. If Trump appoints another Justice, it will probably be someone who makes Clarence Thomas look like an Ultra Liberal.
By the measure of his many years numerous judgments, Justice Kavanaugh is a moderate. The efforts to paint him as an extremest Conservative had did not have any evidence to support them. Just as the claims of his misconduct were lacking in evidence. But would President Trump pick another moderate if he had the chance to name a third nominee? Given his responses to other instances where Democrats have gone to extreme measures to "resist" it would not surprise me if he seeks out a far right Judge as some sort of revenge, however that strategy would largely depend upon the makeup of the Senate at the time.
What, like planning his re-election party? You folks are too funny, every week you tell us how Trump is going down, he'll quit, he'll be impeached, and yet here we are. Impotent rage was funny for a while, but now its just sad and pathetic...
Well, it's possible... if Democrats approach him in a sensible manner with their concerns. I believe he'd play ball if they came at him in the right way. If you challenge Trump to a fight, or start playing dirty, you're going to get the same in return. But, I hope not. I'm far too biased. I wish to see conservativism dominate everywhere.
If you look at Kavanaugh's record you will find that he ruled in 95% agreement with Merrick Garland, who was Obama's nominee and would be on the court except for the Biden rule. He actually is very moderate. He has ruled in favor of Planned Parenthood when the law was on their side. I think one misconception is that a political conservative is the same as a judicial conservative. The former seeks to make (or repeal) laws, and the latter seeks to enforce whatever laws are on the books, whether they agree with them or not.
Amy Barrett will most likely be his next option. She will be much harder to smear and will give him a women so that he can tout that come reelection time.
When 85 year-old Ruthie Ginsburg finally croaks, and if Trump is still president, he'll simply pick a THIRD Supreme Court Justice who respects the Constitution of the United States EXACTLY as it was written and amended. This will drive America-hating, radical Democrats absolutely insane. Well... even MORE insane than they obviously already are.... "EVIDENCE! PROOF! WHAT THE HELL DID THEY WANT THAT FOR?!"
Well perhaps now the Liberal side will see that it is a bad idea to invest so much power in unelected officials. That the balance of powers in each branch has slipped.
For decades, the hyperliberal, radical Left has leveraged the power of Federal judges and courts to obviate, deflect, and terminate the expressed Will of the People. How often have we seen laws voted on by the electorate summarily thrown out or obstructed by some klatsch of liberal Federal judges somewhere...? This was NEVER supposed to have happened! By installing more Justices to the Supreme Court, and other Federal judges who DO adhere to the Constitution of the United States, AS WRITTEN AND AMENDED, the ability of this radical Democrat faction to force its will on the rest of us is severely blunted, and we can be sure that they will continue to fight Trump on this like mad-dogs!
Depends on if the GOP keeps the senate. If the Dems take it then I'd guess he would nominate a moderate justice, if he gets the chance. But, Dems would delay a vote all the way to 2020 though for payback because they are so bitter about Garland. If Trump wins 2020 then I wouldn't be surprised if they would try to delay all the way to 2024.
"Moderate" is a political term, similar to "liberal" or "conservative. The SCOTUS shouldn't be political, but instead be "constitutional" and "textual". I'm hoping Trump will stick with those two attributes, which he has so far, especially with Gorsuch. Kethledge is the one I'd favor most for the next pick. He's more in the mode of Gorsuch than Kavanaugh was. Couldn't help noticing yesterday that Ginsburg looks like she needs to be in a nursing home somewhere.
True, but we all know certain judges have consistent rulings that lean one way or the other. Those are the ones that get labeled liberal or conservative. The ones considered moderate aren't consistently on one side.
That's what often gets called the "swing vote", which means that on one ruling they side with the conservatives, and on another ruling they side with the liberals. Kennedy and Roberts have both been swing votes as of late; Roberts on the ACA, and Kennedy on gay marriage. Both were horrible decisions, and both sided with the liberal political agenda. I have no more faith in "moderates" than I do in "liberals" or some so-called "conservatives". No constitutionalist or texturalist would have ruled in the way Kennedy and Roberts did.
