I am a registered Republican. The GOP can call me once this is over.

A key Democratic congressman has a step-by-step plan to enact the end of federal marijuana prohibition in 2019.

This beautiful free country I call home is not free to everyone, and the injustice of imprisoning ordinary people and ruining their lives because they medicate themselves with a plant breaks my heart.

I fought for this country in Iraq 2004-05 as a US Army dismounted infantryman. I lost 3 of the best friends a man could ever know, one of whom was like a father to me. The fact that we fought for freedom and rights for our country, yet our country continues to put people in prison for something that is a God given right, is the most important issue today.

Tax breaks are great, if you are not in prison. Manufacturing jobs are great, if you are not in prison. Gun ownership is awesome, if you are not in prison. Gay marriage is no problem, if you are not in prison. Everything we take for granted about the beautiful free country is great, as long as you are not in prison.

I fought for freedom in Iraq, and I will continue to fight for freedom here in the US. Until we are free, I fight.

I will be voting Democrat down the line on November 6th. Join me in freeing our fellow Americans who have been wrongly imprisoned for something that is a natural right, to take care of your own mind and body without permission from the government.

    Free our friends and family!

The prohibition of cannabis is absolutely inhumane. It is an abnormality brought on by corporatist powers that show the absolute worst our political system is able to achieve.

It needs to be legalized countrywide. Now.

It was brought on out of fear of Mexican immigrants and perpetuated by greedy corporate interests like big alcohol, big pharma, law enforcement unions and private prison corporations.

I only sacrificed a little time. Men far greater than I made the ultimate sacrifice.

Now that we've legalized it, I foresee other countries following suit quickly.

Works for me... I'm not a user, but I have no problems with legalization...

I don't think this lands in the top 10 things to be done if Dems take the house ONLY, but it should certainly be worked in once the investigations are started..

    Here's a list I mostly agree with

I do not use either, simply because I can't risk having my entire life ruined. If it were legal though, I would use responsibly.

Sorry, but I can't click CNN. I have lost all respect for them.

Agreed on legalizing marijuana, disagreed on voting either Democrat or Republican. I’ll be voting a straight Libertarian ticket.

Same here, but when I retire in a couple years, I plan on visiting states that allow it. Nothing heavy, just a little fun.

Disagreed on CNN with a qualifier. Like Fox and MSNBC, they have talking head shows that are governed by about 10% news and 90% opinion. Just watch the news and take the opinion of all with a very large grain of salt.

I can definitely appreciate that. Here in TN, there is a very tight battle for Corker's US Senate seat, and I am not going to risk it.

I used to do that with CNN, and I still subscribe to MSNBC, but since the racist rants against Kanye West, I can not abide.

I like the way legal use of marijuana is being rolled out, slowly but surely. No need, at the Federal level, to ram it down every states throat, let the states do it. I don't smoke it, never will, but I always thought it was never that big of a deal and going to jail for it was very extreme.

I'll never vote for the Democrats (not now, while they are very extreme), too much at stake in the country that outweighs legal marijuana. I'll voice my concerns to representatives and hope to nudge them in the right direction.

Just my opinion on the subject.

    Totally agree.

Prohibition is stupid on almost every product out there.

It is just like guns and one of the HUGE areas where Republicans are incredibly hypocritical, one of several areas that is so, and is the main reason I call myself an Independent instead of a Republican. When Democrats stop being Progressives and start being Democrats again, I will likely be back in the middle.

Making dugs illegal only pushes things into a dangerous black market type area. It allows businesses to sprout up in illegal areas or in other countries, then creating more problems and illegalities by trying to smuggle it in.

Portugal has some amazing laws in this area and I think they are worth a look at as to how similar programs may be incorporated into the USA.

While this is certainly nothing to base your entire voting pattern on (as in the OP's suggestion of voting straight Dem because of it) but this is definitely an area where we are lacking the freedom we claim to want.

    Here is a synopsis:

Basically, a panel on CNN collectively called Ye an 'uncle Tom negro who doesn't read'.

Agreed 100% on letting the States decide, but there are still a lot of Federal laws against it; lefteovers from the Federal “War on Drugs”. Get rid of those laws and let the States decide.

Well, I find that a bit sad, but I can summarize in a few sentences

    1. House Ways and Means (Neal) - Trumps business and personal tax returns
    2. House Intelligence (Schiff) - Russia/Trump (if needed after Mueller reports)
    3. House Judiciary (Nadler) - Russia/Cohen/Trump, Kavanaugh perjury
    4. House Oversight (Cummings) - Emoluments, Corruption (Zinke, etc)

I'm sure we could get Pot going outside of these committees!!

Are you voting for Senate? Currently Red or Blue? House?

My incumbent D Senator is a lock and I'm very proud to be turning a 38 year Red Congressional seat Blue...

EDIT - I just read your Tenn problem... Good luck... Bredesen looks solid (if not a little old) to me, but you are in a pretty red state... I assume your congressman near Knoxville will be red? Oh well...

right-wing stoner would rather support communists than move to a state where marijuana is legal, or wait until it completes its inevitable journey towards national legalization.

Military service does not make up for that lack of character.

Currently, marijuana is winning the drug war. Keep it up buddy! I know you can make it!
