As much as I support trans people (I know a few,) I am against this. It's just wrong. People are going to have to make hard choices; such is the very nature of life. Nobody can have everything.

I don't get upset when I am asked to call a church leader father, I honor their beliefs by referring to them as that honorific. Similarly if someone with a penis wants to be called a she, I honor their belief. I don't think the "father" has any more connection to god then me (there is no god) just like I'm sure "she" could pee standing up were they so inclined. The belief in god is just as irrational as the belief that one is a different gender.

But I honor their beliefs, since it costs me nothing and I'm not a prick. I think the government should too.

Edit:I agree w/ what your saying about sports, but bathrooms most the fears around that are already illegal so I don't see what the problem is.

I don't remember all of the details of this but I think it has to do with employees and how their coworkers/ bosses refer to them? Yeah I think that bosses should make reasonable accommodations for their employees beliefs. Joe Smo on the street has every right to be a nasty prick as long has he isn't being threatening or harassing though.

 

Your post says you will voluntarily (thats the key word) respect their belief. Its more complicated than that, if you call someone the wrong pronoun it can get you in legal trouble, or get you fired. Thats if you can figure out what the desired pronoun is in the first place.

I'm not sure what to do with these people who can't "pass," but go through the procedure anyway. I think there's a discussion to be had between "none of them!" and "all of them!" I don't see why we can't just do as we've always done.

And, I seriously doubt you would find anyone advocating that Buck Angel be forced to use the women's rest room, but that's how some claim they want it.

I **** you not, there are two women in my women's group (trans women allowed,) who I completely thought were trans, but are not. They are just incredibly unattractive women. What do we do about them? I'm pretty sure my grandmother would have been accused of being in the wrong restroom back in the 50's, if there were such a thing.

I never pretend to know all the answers, but 1 and 0 are rarely the situation.
