God help us if we relied on conservatives for culture, entertainment, media, and education. We would all be miserable.

Because I think that Republican ideology is highly flawed, and highly dishonest, and not at all in most people's best interests, I have sought to figure out why anyone would support them. Or conversely, what is it about those who reject it. In that search I have discovered several places, that are perhaps the most liberal places in the US. That is liberal by liberal standards.

The places are the Pacific Northwest, Minnesota, north central Colorado, and Delaware. Even when the rest of the country has been at its darkest red, these areas have remained not only brightly blue, but prosperous. What do these places have in common? The Nordic influence.

People from Scandinavia didn't come to America until after the Civil War. Unlike other groups, they didn't suffer through a starving period. Whereas the Irish and Italians came to America, only to work in dirty factories and live in run down slums. The Scandinavians, mostly Norwegian and Swedish, instead came over in groups and established their own settlements. The largest was in Minnesota. They also had sizable settlements near San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, and Boulder.

It isn't so much an ethnic thing, as it is a cultural thing, or perhaps an ideology. Some of the aspects of Oregon, and especially Portland, of which conservatives complain the loudest, were begun under Republican leaders. But that was before the Republicans began purging moderates.

The ideology that the Scandinavians brought with them is a bit like how Democratic ideology, especially how it is practiced in the Northwest, has shaped up to be. Half of the richest men in the US gained their wealth in the Pacific Nortwest.

Incidentally the Scandinavian idea of the right to individualism is quite distinct from the libertarian idea of individual rights. One has more rights, freedoms, and fulfillment, if they are allowed to be the individual they want to be, rather than if one has the right to be like everyone else.

I'm not at all defending the white nationalists (they should be prosecuted), but Antifa came to riot as well. They need to be prosecuted also.

Exactly, especially when one considers that most creatives lean liberal. Just think, if one all took all the liberals out of Rock and Roll, all we would have left would be Ted Nuggent and Gene Simmons, far from the best the genre has to offer.

Ever seen a conservative comedian? Almost sounds like a set up to a joke.

Hey guys, that is totally unfair. What about great conservative movies like God's Not Dead, Left Behind and Red Dawn? Oh, wait... nevermind.

Yeah, the conservatives don't have any worries. Heck you guys should probably take it easy tomorrow and just stay in bed.

Surely you don't think Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, et. al. produced better outcomes than just keeping our nose out of it would have done.

I've never heard this much buzz about a democrat running for Governor here in the Panhandle. I'm hearing almost no enthusiasm for De Santis here (hearing some grumbling about Gillum, but not much in favor of De Santis). I see Gillum winning the state, albeit narrowly. I also don't see Rick Scott dethroning Nelson. I wish that DeSantis and Scott would win (I voted for them about a week ago), but I'm not hopeful about them. That said, we won't get much (if any) of what Gillum promises should he win, and that includes a state income tax. My worry is that democrat governors just don't do well when major hurricanes hit.

However, democratic actor James Cromwell recently used an awards ceremony to state that if the democrats lose, there will be riots or civil war- and blood in the streets.
While both sides will have a certain number of loonies claiming they represent the majority and call for violence, the fact is the the majority of the people acting crazy and choosing off-the wall logic are the progressive left- which is quickly becoming the entire democratic party. It's not just their outrageous crazies, it's their everyday crazies.

It IS a dangerous situation to be sure. Law and order depend on a reasonable balance in the mindsets of people, with the vast majority supporting the right thing. That balance has moved, as people like Maxine Waters do their best to turn ordinary people into a lynch mob and attack the values that have made the country in the first place. Candidate Gillum in Florida stated that white males constitute the biggest risk of terrorism, and we need to find a way to get rid of them. The press, primarily based on the coasts (NY, CA) has become a propaganda machine. Certain big money interests are pouring millions of dollars more than ever seen in a mid-terms, to buy votes- and people raised without moral compasses are willing to sell them.

We have all see some outrageous things in past elections, but they were always fringe. This time, we have certain portion of the mainstream that is off the rails, bigtime.
There will be a growing confrontation, one way or another.

We won't have to wait much longer to see.... sort of an IQ test, in my opinion.
    Remember what JFK said-
"Ask not what your country can do for you- Ask what you can do for your country".
The people supporting the former are the democrats and leftists, willing to suck the life out of the nation for their short term satisfaction.
The people supporting the latter are the conservatives and republicans, working to preserve the constitution and build the nation stronger.

    How smart are we today?

Unless the reverse happened and Hillary wouldve won the electoral and Trump the popular vote. Then you'd LOVE the EC.

You are making a logical error. Something that would be s serious infraction in a competitive debate. To argue that only the smart agree with you, or have the right IQ. Unless you can show, conclusively, for this to be the case. But it can't be, because there are people, with much higher intelligence than you, who don't agree with you. In a scientific setting, it invalidates your hypothesis.

But then that is the method of conservative argument, isn't it. Set up a false premise, and then debate the consequence of, as if the premise were true.

In any case, I'm confident that my bright blue home will stay bright and blue, just like my eyes.

You mean we didn't see kids run out of classes in reaction to Trump's election? That was sad.

Wow! I never expected such a response to my thread. Life happened to me so I haven't responded, I just read the 9 pages so far. Seems to me the population of this website is right of center. Here I am a day later and I stand by my original post. What a difference a day makes! Remember, Republicans vote tomorrow and Demoncrats vote on Wednesday!

You may be unaware of the number of times Einstein was called an idiot by those who were sure they knew more that he did. Of course, he had plenty of company; throughout history people who deemed themselves wise have trashed people who were far superior in thinking. Even in recent years, Steve Jobs, who created Apple, was fired by his own board of directors for being too far out, not realistic in his visionary thinking. Of course, they hired him back when the company was approaching bankruptcy using their ideas, and he turned it around. These weren't nincompoops- they were all experienced CEO's and executives- who just weren't as smart as they thought they were.

As for me- yes, there certainly are people smarter than me. If you go by IQ (which i don't think is a very good metric) about one out of every 223 people beat me out. But then, I once had a PhD working for me as a warehouse janitor. Neither IQ nor education qualify you; it is success that reflects the winner, the person who consistently makes the right choices.
That's not a "competitive debate", that is real life. The exception to this is politics, where the award is given to the one who convinces the most voters that he is the least evil, and that is not success- it is salesmanship.

We don't know what will happen here- but we should have a pretty good idea of the consequences of making this decision poorly. If we fail, there will be a substantial price for giving power to idiots.

Trump winning was devine intervention to me. I held my nose voting for him but now he is everything I wanted in a prez. THAT is why I am calling a red wave. If my intuition is correct, look out! There is going to be a lot of whip cracking these next 2 years.

    Ludicrous.

This isn't ludicrous. The man you support, our President, is calling for violence.

NBC and Fox News said in separate statements on Monday that their networks will no longer air the Trump campaign's racist anti-immigrant advertisement.

"Upon further review, Fox News pulled the ad yesterday and it will not appear on either Fox News Channel or Fox Business Network," the Trump Network said.
