In the U. S. House it requires only a simple majority to impeach a president. The Democrats will have that numerical majority sworn in in January 2019. Will they vote to impeach Trump, even though it will take a 2/3rd's vote in the Senate to actually remove him?

    Why? Why not?

considering that they've been 'laser' focused on destroying trump since nov '16 and their continual vows to get him, i'd say yes, they will try... but they need to be concerned with the true liberal dems, that right now aren't happy with the likes of pelosi & waters, so it might not even make it through the house...

Dems won't do it because it is counter productive.

They will try and just like the Republicans before them who went after Clinton, they will end up failing.

The Dims have always been counter productive. Democrats live by us against them. They have hopped up their liberal base promising to impeach Trump. How can they back out now? Just like with Kavanaugh, once the Dims set their direction they live or die by it.

Will get really nasty for them if they try. One it will probably get their asses indicted for doing far worse. I personally think Trump and the GOP should haul ass and go for the jugular on them ASAP. This whole Mueller probe was based on lies from the beginning and the GOP have enough evidence to indict about 4 right now and once they get in further about 15 more will go down as well. And we're not talking small crimes here.

They formed a coup and conspired to create a false narrative of Russia collusion which Rod Rosenstein and others signed off on FOUR times to LIE to obtain FISA warrants for the sole purpose of FRAMING George Papadopolis, Carter Page, and a duly elected US president.

Instead of investigating a crime.... They went after Trump with zero evidence hoping to find something they could use to impeach him. That's TREASON and it goes all the way up the chain of command to OBAMA. AND HILLARY CLINTON paid for it!

I voted that the Democrats will impeach Trump, but there will be a good deal of "foreplay" first.

They'll begin a two-pronged initiative that will involve the continuation of the "Mueller investigation" and the modifications of various ploys to increase taxes and fees everywhere they can, while expanding/restoring welfare handouts, "subsidies", etc. The more resistance they get to their proposed agenda from Trump, the greater the likelihood that they will impeach him, probably using whatever they can dredge up from the "Mueller investigation" as a pretext whether any of it's "criminal" or not....

It's not 'rocket-science', and, of course, it will all be layered upon a baked-in Democrat sentiment of hating Trump's guts, along with everything he stands for....

If President Trump had a plumbers squad that broke into DNC headquarters and Trump doesn't own it immediately but stalls they will impeach him.

They would be doing the bidding of 42% of Americans, according to a June poll. 43% of Americans were in favor of impeaching Nixon, who was less corrupt and abhorrent than Trump.

I don't think Democrats will do it, though. They're clearly afraid to act without bicameral majorities. Impeachment, like so much else in Congress today, is stuck by the increasingly divisive left-right political dynamic. Unlike with Nixon, we can't count on Republicans at all to do the right thing.

P.S. Mueller could potentially change this, depending on what comes out. Otherwise, I stand by what I've said.

If Trump wipes his ass with his left hand instead of his right hand, there are some of these radical Democrats who would view that as grounds for impeachment -- it all depends on how pliable Trump will be about letting Democrats insinuate more and more of their "Socialism-lite" contamination into American life during the next two years. If he rolls over like a pet dog, they may not impeach him, but Trump is unlikely ever to cave-in enough to please them....

They'll want him to allow them to restore all of the provisions of Obamacare, forget about stemming the tide of illegal aliens at the border, forget about going after "sanctuary cities", look the other way while they propose legislation to blow-off repayment of college loan debt, etc., etc.

OH -- I almost forgot -- if Ruthie Ginsburg croaks any time in the next two years, Democrats will be absolutely apoplectic over her replacement on the Supreme Court. The House of Reps has nothing to say about that, but if Trump comes up with another Conservative, then you can bet Democrats will go straight for his throat!

No, seriously, they can impeach him with only a simple majority vote to do so in the House of Representatives. They have that majority now, so, in their minds they hold a 'Damocles Sword' over Trump's head....

The thing about Trump, though, is that he's such an iconoclast and total political outsider that he probably doesn't really give a sh*t whether they impeach him or not! In any event, only the SENATE can actually remove a sitting president, and the Senate won't do that -- ask Bill Clinton....

So what if they impeach him? The Senate will laugh and move on. Though I think the Democrats will impeach him and in doing so he will get reelected.

They will need actionable proof first. If it is serious enough - then yes. If not, I hope they don't. A lot of time and money will be spent for nothing.

No, and that's the funny thing about 'impeachment'. All the House has to do is come up with a simple majority to impeach, for any reason it likes, and, like magic -- impeachment happens. All one Democrat has to do is come up with ANYTHING that the other Democrats will vote for, no matter what it is, and they can impeach President Trump.

Getting him REMOVED from office, however, is a FAR more difficult thing -- and it requires a 2/3rd's vote in the Senate.

So, these angry, Trump-hating Democrats can have their little hissy-fit and impeach him if they want to. BFD. Nobody's buying tickets to that mutual-masturbation carnival but other Democrats anyway....

DNC has done so such thing, and you are mirror shadowing, like Rush or Alinsky, of accusing the "Democrats" of doing what the Republicans are doing.

    Simple.

They have no grounds to impeach.

    That was easy,.

Obviously, the votes for conviction aren't there.

Just like the GOP House who impeached Clinton knew that there was ZERO chance of Senate Conviction.

I guess it all boils down to this:

If the Dems feel that a "Show Trial" (with Zero Chance in the Senate) like the Repubs did to Clinton will help their chances in 2020, then yes.

    If not, then no.

It is strictly a political calculation.

The Congress can decide whatever they want, Vox, as grounds to impeach.

You are not the person who determines the validity of the grounds.
